  • Fillets are the most common type of weld performed. So as a Engineer working in Welding Industry, Knowledge of Fillet Weld Terminology is a must. In this video we look at Leg Length, Throat & the relation between them. We will also see the importance of Throat in deciding the strength of fillet weld.

Sir can you please tell me how to achieve throat thickness in SAW in 1F position? If I try to achieve it my leg length increases.

what are the condition to select 1 miter weld,2 convex weld 3 concave weld and how these three can be welded to achieve required shape as in practice it is difficult to get these three varied shapes

@@Varunkm110 Sorry Varun for delayed reply, bit busy with work. You can try leaf type Weld Fillet Gauge. Just Search Leaf Type Weld Fillet Gauge on google. Leaf type gauge directly shows you leg length of weld. you will see variety of leaf gauges available. The size which fits your weld profile is the leg length. Posting some of he links to make it easier for you

you don't need to remember every factor, just calculate this :- cos(max angle/2)
    ex:-
    cos(90/2) = 0.707
    cos(100/2) = 0.642
    cos(106/2) = 0.601
    cos(113/2) = 0.551
    cos(120/2) = 0.5
    😉
