I think it’s safe to say JK Rowling has taken my crown as public enemy #1 of the trans community.. :X
Blaire, you are gold!
Oof-
J.K. constantly supported the same sjw's going after her now by attacking conservatives as sexiest and racist. It's not exactly shocking that they are canceling her.
Happy belated birthday blaire!
How did you read a 944 page book in 12 hours?
I wish so much this hysteria disguised as 'activism' would STOP... it's embarassing humanity
I think many social issues have turned hysterical due to people being frustrated with the current political climate, that’s just how I try to understand it anyway lol
Social media is the root of all this, if social media was deleted permanently we would see a lot less of this because these same people wouldnt do these kinds of things irl they would be scared shitless, social media is like a shield plus there are real life consequences as well like being jailed, sued, or restraining orders
Ikr, I saw "activists" in a Swedish transgroup I was in claiming a Swedish movie called Cockpit was transfobic and made fun of transwomen. The plot is: A male pilot gets fired from his job. To get his job back, he dress up and pretends to be a woman as the company only want to hire women as pilots. Its a comedy but those "activists" only see the movie as a movie created to make fun of transwomen. Wut? How? 🤦♂️
It actually brings down the trans community even more when people get offended on their behalf. It's a sad reality atm and I don't think it'll ever go away
@@nekoboygames7786 what lmfao that sounds hilarious
People should put all this energy into cancelling Netflix's Cuties.
they are tho. if anything i see much more outrage about cuties, as it should be
what is cuties
kelsie kelsie because as Blair said, this one is ridiculous and has nothing to do with trans people
Luce Reyski and yet people are burning Rowling’s books... but cuties is top 5 trending in the US (for being watched, not talked about) and it’s still on Netflix 🙈 that’s the problem, sadly...
N. P EXACTLY!!
People who burn books typically score very low on Reading Comprehension Skills, &/or are terrified of the existence of any information which doesn't blatantly reinforce their own personal view points.
Yeah, just google what happened in Bebelplatz, Berlin doing WWII.
Exactly!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
People weren't forced to read fahrenheit 451 in high school and it shows
And they are not very smart
👏🏾
People just wanna cancel anyone who's got different opinions. She's entitled to hers. Let her live.
JK Rowling's opinion isn't that much different , she is left wing. There might be some difference on the trans issues. She is a feminist and she has virtue signaled about Syrian refugees
What opinion are you talking about? She wrote a fictional story for crying out loud, smh.
And people are entitled to their opposing opinion
These young in’s CLEARLY have not heard of Silence of the Lambs.....Buffalo Bill is not trans but he enjoys dressing as a woman and wearing women’s skins....
Younguns*
Leatherface was the real life version of him, so its definitely a real thing
Or the film Dressed to Kill.
That's so true, I never thought of that! I wonder what their opinion would be of it would be if it came out today.
Wait I thought he was trans? I mean I remember a scene when he was naked and he had a vagina so... idk maybe not? I watched it a while ago
even if the book was about a transgender killer, why would it matter? that’s like canceling someone for writing about a woman being a murderer and saying that’s making women look bad. there are bad people in all forms of life...
Thank you! 👏
Exactly!
i think its about context, if an open misoginist man were to write a book where "woman = bad" then it would be bad, because it wouldnt be about representation but hatred towards woman, that's why it was an issue with jk rowling, she has stated that trans woman are "men in dresses" so when she writes a book about a killer thats a man in a dress it makes you think, you know
Pierina Zepeda yes but also people have a brain and an ability to separate things one from another
Because context and intent matters. If shes purposely making the killer trans due to some kind of hatred of trans people then she should be criticized
Nobody had a problem with Heath Ledger playing the Joker dressed in a female nurse’s uniform blowing up a hospital in the ‘Dark Knight’ 🤷🏻♀️
Gurrrl I wish I had found your channel sooner. You are so freaking cool 😎
This reminds me of how people hate silence of the lambs for being transphobic because of Buffalo Bill even though in the movie the main characters go out of their way to tell you that trans people are not violent and that Buffalo Bill isn't trans he's just damaged and wants to be something he isn't because he hates himself.
I was just thinking of that!
He was a good character.
Hahaha was literally just thinking this too!

Imagine how privileged you'd have to be, to buy new books, hardcovers no less, just to burn them.
Exactly
Oh, and on top of that. Never actually read the very thing they're bitching about for actual context. Must be nice to be able to throw money down the shitter, just so you can earn good boy points with people you don't even know. People that I can guarantee don't give one iota of a shit about you, till they need something from you.
Were it my book I would be heartbroken. But at the same time laughing all the way to the bank!
What a waste of resources...
Not to mention, that they *bought* the book. So they already supported the author.
JKR probably doesn't give two shits about, what they do with her book, burn it, read it, use it as a toilet paper.
These people essentially burned their own money as a protest or whatever.
That man on the news enraged me. He hasn’t even read the book yet AND is a die man but is speaking against it. I hate when people try to be offended for a group they aren’t a part of.
Do people not remember the movie Psycho? Homeboy dressed like his mom when killing women 🤷🏻♀️
What about the silence of the lambs? 🤷♀️
Also Insidious
Was just about to comment Insidious
And Texas Chainsaw Massacre when Leatherface dressed up as a woman
And plenty of real life male serial killers dressed in women’s clothes. That’s not to say any cis man that dresses as a woman is deranged. But authors often take inspiration from real life high profile case, ie the writer of Psycho and Silence of the Lambs.
Why can’t a trans person be a villain? Aren’t trans people just like everyone else?
right, that's what actual equality is
You would think so. But some peoples logic doesn't make sense
Exactly
The villain wasn't actually trans lol
@Brittany D it's a book. Not a law. Just dont read it
Them: Trans women are not men in dresses!
JK Rowling: **Writes a book about a man in a dress**
Them: Why are you attacking trans women?
Exactly!
I know right?! 🤣
@Brittany D imagine being so stupid that you think a man in a dress is a transgender person.
@Garity Yager THANK YOU
Well, she's a transphobic artist making a book about a cis man dressing up as women. She already thinks that transwomen are dangerous and now she's suddenly making a story about a "cis man" dressing up as a woman to kill women. Like transwomen can't even go in restrooms because they think that they're gonna r@pe women.
I’m a crossdresser and I’m also not offended lol 😂.
Often you see horror movie killers as men wearing masks and holding machetes and sometimes it is an unsuspecting woman with supernatural powers, etc. Just because a certain individual in fictional movies or books are a certain way does not dictate how the majority of everyone in that subcategory is. Really, it is hilarious to me that they are getting offended over one fictional character.
A killer transvestite....guess they never saw "Psycho" or "Silence of the Lambs" 🤷
Oh no I know for a fact that at least SoL is also cancelled, Idk about Psycho though
transphobia/homophobia is a problem in the horror genre, but people just blew this whole thing out of proportion. There's plenty of real life serial killers that have dressed in woman's clothing and stuff??? It's a fetish, or it's a disguise, etc. This drives me bonkers hfhf
Oliphant Kid yeah :[
Here in Canada, there was a high ranking air force officer who was convicted of Rape and murder of 2 women. Before escalating to that, he'd been breaking into womens homes, stealing their underwear, and taking pictures of himself wearing it. His name is Russel Williams. He is not trans.
@@c.s.804 I remember that! I saw it on one of those crime docs.
If Robin Williams was still alive, SJWs would probably call him a transphobe for playing Mrs. Doubtfire.
🤯
True. That or the right wing would say it's "pushing the transgender agenda". It was a different time then.
Rip to white chicks then 😂😂
While the story was about a father desperate to remain in his kid's lives during a serious marital separation, the "dude looks like a lady" (quoting an included song) aspect was CERTAINLY the punchline. That being said, there is laughing at the prospect, the kids considering calling the cops on a she really being a he, and people laughing at the idea whether Williams's character would've been going through a transition or not. THHAAAAAAT being recognized, super good movie was funny af.

Anyone ever hear of a movie called “dressed to kill” or “psycho”?
Yes!!!! Dressed to Kill was the one I was trying to remember! Love that movie.
How dare she write about a male killer dressing in women’s clothes! That would never happen in real lif-
Oh wait.
Has that happened in real life?
@thedarklordx yes!!!! And more than once, with famous serial killers.(edit) mommy issues r more than common in serial killers specially those who murder women, fear of woman and being jealous also. Ed gain used to make clothes with female body parts that he would wear, henry lee was forced to dress as a girl when younger and said that was the origin of his resentment towards woman and topics of male murderers dressing as females have been already exploited in books, series and movies before.
Brittany D imagine being so sensitive that you may forget that some men just DO dress in womens clothes.....
@@thedarklordx many people dress up as women so they cant be identified on cctv. Mark Brown and Mohsen Bilal off the top of my head.
Brittany D imagine invalidating a mans gender because of what he chooses to wear. Just because a killer wants to dress like a woman doesn’t mean he wants to be a woman or is disrespectful towards trans women. My man just might like how soft ladies clothes are. Murder is hard work and you’re gonna want something comfy to wear before and afterwards 🤷🏼

But the way Blaire describes it, it sounds extremely similar. I just wanted to highlight the hypocrisy of people blaming JK Rowling, when they view Psycho as a masterpiece, which it rightfully is. Also, if you think that the writer had favorable views of trans people back then, then keep dreaming. And lastly, yes trans women ARE biologically men and I stand by this because otherwise, all that they did(operations, sessions etc) would be for naught and I would be making a mockery of their hard work and transition from male to female.😅

In an earlier book in this series (The Silkworm) there is a real pre-op trans woman. Headcanons are sometimes dangerous in exactly this way.
When you're so woke you hurt the community you try to "defend".In conclusion Twitter is a hell site and needs to burn.
no I actually agree with that, that’s true. but pretending there isn’t a common sentiment or trope that trans women are “men in dresses looking to cause harm to women/children” is purposely dishonest
It’s pretty gay some people can’t disagree with something without completely ignoring the basis of someone’s point
@@EXTENDEDWARRANT but that's actually what I'm saying. That by saying that, because the villain wears a wig aand dresses as a woman once, it must mean he's trans, they're perpetuating a wrong image of trans people and show that they themselves don't quite understand what being trans entails.
Nessmess we know that tho,
but with jk Rowling being a terf people are looking at it through the lens of the author. A terf writing in a story about (what was reported as) a man in a dress preying on women is super suspect. You get that? People aren’t saying a man in a dress is a trans person they’re looking at the context of where it came from.
Now I don’t actually give a shit, I wouldn’t read this anyway I just understand the reaction to what was reported

I have just read two books that featured people dressing in disguise that weren't written by JK Rowling. One had a man dressing as a woman to be a decoy, another was putting the point across that a female character may have dressed as a male to sneak out and commit a murder. It is a perfectly common occurrence in fictional works.
Excellent point- why can't there be a transgender villain? Or a POC villain, or a villain from any particular "marginalized" group? You want equality, well, that's it in a nutshell.
As long as the villain isn't the ONLY trans and/or POC character in the book, then it's fine. But if everyone is cishet white and the villain isn't that comes across as demonization.

Just wanted to let you know that Samantha Lux made a video about the book and said that you are basically lying about what the book is about, especially about the fact that there are more than one line stating that there is a man dressed as a woman in that book
Would be great if you could react to that video or something since I am highly confused about what's going on, I still don't think that the book is transphobic
There is more than one line about cross dressing, but I haven't found one yet about any trans issues. Of course I'm only half way through so there is still time, but so far it's all about this killer in the 80s (from a cold case) who used to dress up to seem harmless. A strategy that isn't unheard of among serial killers. It's pretty tame, and it's not presented as a fetish or an identity thing either. Maybe there's something more and that's what Blair's refferencing? Not sure.
Someone else in the comments said they read the book twice and didn’t find any references on the guy being transgender. He was a gender nonconforming person but that’s not trans is it?? IDK I was a tomboy and I consider that to be not conforming to my gender
@@Jinkroll It sounded a bit more like his landlady at least thought of him as more effeminately gay. A stereotype at the time as it was supposed to have happened in the 80s. Of course that was based on her own preconceived notions. Ironically I found that to be the general theme of the book. Preconceived notions that were wrong. It applies to basically everyone in the book and how they judge each other. And then the killer.. well. it actually made me think a bit. What preconceived notions do I have about other people? Not bad for what's just supposed to be detective fiction.
Remember when groups of Christians burned Harry Potter books and were mocked for it? The irony.
Omg, yeah I do remember that. Lmao, irony

Blaire mentioned that in this video, if you bothered to watch it
Oh how the turned tables
It’s a brand new religion, but an unorganized one where it doesn’t even teach to forgive and love others like yourself - wich STILL somehow creates evil fanatics so imagine what _this_ one can do!!!
It gets even more scary when you realize the main evil for these religious extremists isn’t a fallen angel, but other humans, usually straight white men and their ‘sympathizers’ (meaning those that don’t hate them and whatever they do pretty much). Hence why Blair isn’t just someone with a different opinion, she is someone that, in their mind, follows the ‘patriarchy’, wich for them means _absolute_ evil..
I think the SJW rules say that if you’re going to have “diverse” characters, they can’t ever do anything wrong or make a mistake. In fact they pretty much need to have Mary Sue level integrity, skills, etc. (think Mulan remake.)
In this case it’s sort of a side issue whether the book was any good, whether you liked it, etc.
BTW check out By Reason Of Insanity by Shane Stevens (1979) for an excellent psychotic serial killer novel.
Thanks for the book suggestion, btw I agree with everything you said.
As a hopeful author, this is so true. I'm feeling the pressure to include diverse characters, which I do anyway, but the issue is I'm worried about the response from people who identity with a characteristic of my characters. I write very dark stories, with twisted characters who commit unthinkable acts. How can I write characters of this nature, while also positively representing certain individuals? It's tough.
Jenny Ocean It’s true enough. The SJW set isn’t real good with nuance, which in my view is what makes characters interesting and complex. I much prefer a villain or antagonist who does things for what they believe are the right reasons however twisted (think Thanos in Infinity War) than for some lame reason - greed, they’re just “evil”, etc.

Why do people put so much energy into being hateful for no reason. There are more pressing issues in the world than whether or not JK Rowling is transphobic.
@Brittany D Such disdain is completely uncalled for and over-the-top. You set the bar so low for measuring transphobia and bigotry that I doubt 99.9% of the global population would be able to pass under it. Rowling has criticised certain elements of the demands and arguments of trans activists, but isn't that what debate is all about? Gender was another word for sex until a few years ago when activists moved the goalposts so it meant simply how one self-identifies. Surely that would be a good starting point for debate, rather than the childish insults, accusations and threats thrown around on Twitter.
You just explained it yourself. Do you think the Powers that Be want the masses to focus on pressing issues? Think about that and suddenly everything makes perfect sense.
Imagine being so immodest and conceited that you dehumanize a stranger for having a slightly different opinion than you even though your morals and values are aligned on this topic: dont be transphobic.
Newsflash: educating yourself means challenging critical thought; approaching topics with an open mind and developing an opinion, not forcing somebody to agree with everything you say or you retaliate by verbally insulting them.
Come back down to earth please.
Deuces!
Brittany D I never said she is or isn’t transphobic and for myself, I do not care to speculate on the matter because I personally do not know her. Similarly to how I could jump to the conclusion that you are a rude person for leaving such a comment, but I do not know you so I don’t know how you are on a day to day basis so i can not make that conclusion. Similarly to what is said in this video, did you even read the book? Have you ever actually spoken to her yourself? How do you know with 100% certainty that she is transphobic? I’m not trying to start a fight, I’m willing to be educated if there is something I have missed.
@Bello Bordello I took a gender studies course in 2016 and we had learned that sex refers to what was assigned at birth, so xx or xy basically. And gender being a social construct that means how one expresses their self (female presenting, male presenting, non binary, etc. ). People did/ still do have a tendency to use them interchangeably. I feel like almost every movement will have some criticism as there are always those who are on the more radical side and those tend to be the individuals that are seen on the news. I don’t even have a Twitter because of all the people who seem to not be able to have a normal conversation 😂 like I highly doubt people would say the things in real life that they do online. We are all just people and more people would probably be open to learning if others didn’t come after them so strongly calling them bigots, transphobic, racist, etc with no real backing, and in some cases, no real understanding what those words even mean! Haha
We ain’t forget ❗️
@BRK K whaat??
Since you talk about actually reading the content before speaking on it (valid) I’m just curious if you read her essay that she posted on her blog on how she thinks about trans people? How she thinks the inclusion of trans women into “safe spaces” of cis women opens the door for men to dress as women to harm them? The whole basis of this book is her fear personified of how psycho men will take advantage of the inclusion of trans women. She literally states in her essay that most cis women agree with her except the privileged ones who haven’t been sexually and physically abused by men. Id really love for you to make a video explaining away her views in that very detailed essay.

Period
I think Rowling really is (or was) someone who is deep down a bleeding heart liberal. Her story very much confirms it. In the 90’s she was a depressed divorced single mom, struggling to pay rent and being denied by every publisher she sent her stories to. In writing Harry Potter I think she wanted nothing more than exorcise her demons by creating an uplifting and magical story which Harry Potter absolutely delivers. The problem however is that Rowling wrote a story that was quintessentially brittish/english and in hindsight, bc of the world wide impact the books went on to have, I think she ended up regretting that the story wasn’t more progressive, more bold, more universal, in short, more “social justice-ish”. So many millennials proclaiming their undying devotion and love for gher series only lamenting that the story “could’ve had more brown and lgbt representation” must’ve really affected her to the point where she started wishing she could turn back the clock and really rewrite the books to make everyone feel included and represented. Heck, she would probably rewrite Voldemort into having orange skin if she could if you know what I mean. But in the end, the progressive demands turned out too much even for Rowling and she cracked under the weight of holding up every single dumb sjw’s insane purity expectations.
@@Guillhez Yea I think that's true, but I also can relate. There are liberals who still feel liberal but think a lot of the 'woke' shit is going to far, you know? 15 years ago the sjw theme was welcome and interesting and felt good. The books were pretty liberal and open for the time. Now (unfortunately) it feels desperate and angry when people reach for something to cry about. I think what it really is, is that she's not as dumb as some of the young kids. 🤷

This is how you know the people complaining about this are young and not well versed in movies and books. The trope of a man dressing up as a woman isn't new. Ever since Ed Gein, that trope has been recycled so many times in horror movies. Chances are these people have never seen Silence of the Lambs, Bates Motel, or the second Insidious movie. and I promise you, the ones I've listed are far more offensive than JKR's new book. For one thing, since theyre based on Ed Gein, Ed Gein actually showed interest in the first male to female transition when he first learned of it, so it is suspected he might have had gender dysphoria ontop of his issues with his mother. In Silence of the Lambs, you see a man that wants to become a woman, and kidnaps women to use their skin and body parts to make him the perfect bodysuit to become a woman.
That's what I was thinkin'!
Just people who aren't well-versed in other media, like the outrage of the early 2000s.
Shakespeare did it a long time ago. The ancient greek and roman playwrights did it too. This book....its no where near close. Maybe the character picked up the wrong coat when going out.
This has nothing to do with “young” people not understanding the difference. It’s simply stupid and ignorant people who want trouble.
I actually came up with an idea of my transgender character making a skin suit out of removed tattoos without even knowing about that.
@Alpha Muhammad The point is that in novels such as Silence of the Lambs men dressed as women solely as a form of DISGUISE and people realized that at the time but they can't seem to realize it now.
I think it's really ridiculous when people pretend/joke about someone else writing Harry Potter like when they say 'I pretend Daniel Radcliffe/Emma Watson wrote it' etc. It's so petty and disrespectful...she poured her heart and soul into those books for our childhoods, raised herself from rock bottom and financial struggle to be successful from her own mind. And people want to discredit her own world/work/imagination just because they don't agree with her? I think it's awful....Why don't we be outraged about the transgender people being killed/assaulted rather than authors writing fictional work...
Great video, Blaire!💝
