  • Namaste Everyone,
In this video, I have with me -Nischay Modi, my husband and an awesome physiotherapist.
Today we both have expressed our views on the misinformation that some people are spreading for Physiotherapy and physiotherapists (specifically in India).
We spoke about the importance of physiotherapy and the different fields in which a physiotherapist can work.
This is an attempt to spread the right kind of information about our Profession so that others can benefit and feel proud about being associated with this noble profession.
It is our humble request that you guys should be more vocal about your experiences with this field- be it that you are a PT(physiotherapist) or a client.
This video was made in response to a couple of videos and posts that meant to disrespect our profession.
Keep up the good work fellow Physiotherapists!!!

Here's my story: A few years back, my elder brother got partial ACL tear, his orthopaedic doc referred him for physiotherapy. I was in 8th standard then, I was really impressed on knowing what it is, so i did further research regarding this profession, and since then it is my aim to become a Physical therapist !!! Now I'm a final year B.P.T. student. The thing I experienced in my school time was that no teacher or career counceller then (and I'm sure till today) didn't talk about other allied health care professions than just telling about medicine and dentistry. This is the loop hole, students should be made aware about all fields which they can explore and that's how all professions will get acknowlegement. 🙏🏼✨ There's a lot of work to be done to aware people on this regard. You are doing great ma'am. 🙌🏽✨

Hi@@shivanishrivastava8661 , my advice to you is to be crystal clear about this course, how it's different from others, what all subjects you'll be studying. Then properly get to know what is the role of a physiotherapist in the health care sector. By this all information that you ll gather, if it interests you so much than others - MBBS.... , I think nothing can stop you. You shouldn't be thinking about a Dr. Prefix rather focus on the fact that anything you do should be your choice of interest because that way you'll enjoy it. Also share all the information about it to your parents and if you are interested in it more than anything else, then they should support you. All depends on your interest - what you'll like doing throughout your life. Whatever field you choose, if you like it, you'll be able to build scope and opportunities for yourself don't worry about it. Best wishes! 👍🏼✨

@@shivanishrivastava8661 hi, my advice is show them video of Cardio ICU physiotherapy on you tube. The mentality if Indian parents is that if you are not in hospital setting, you are not equal to mbbs. show them that how you can do your specialization in Neuro,Cardio,MSK.
because in india, concept is physios either come for home visit or clinic. they don't even know we work in hospitals in ICU

Ma'am there's one more thing i'd like to add here. I myself have completed my BPT what i think is a part of this misinformation stems from us physios in india itself. I see my classmates saying things like "such a waste this field is" "i feel like i wasted my money" and what not. Parents send their kids to be physios just because they'll have a prefix "dr" infront of their names. I think only people who are dedicated towards the field should choose and study not just for the sake of it. These people to earn money in future do a lot of unethical practices later on in life. Also if somebody does not respect us or does not pay us according to our abilities we should straight away leave that setting. Change comes from within. All of us in this profession need to take steps. More power to you! I always try to explain the people around me the meaning and importance of physiotherapy. There are still some ignorant people out there who wouldn't want our field to grow because they think we are a threat to their business.

& lately we were taught how to manage the issues which hinder those functions.
People these days consult a physiotherapist first & then go to a physician ~I have encountered such cases.
So people who believe that we are just massage therapist ... Literally you should visit a physiotherapist once.
You'll know how we are different with our maneuvers.

I'm a DPT student, you asked us to share our experiences in the comments section, so here is mine:
When I was 9 years old, a MEDICAL DOCTOR damaged my nerves by injecting me the wrong way. And a surgeon referred me to a physical therapist because the nerve damage was getting worse, my muscles started to fade away, a hole was made in my arm, I eventually started getting mobility issues. But the physical therapist basically helped me repair my arm, and did some heat therapy and motions onto my arm to help me restore my functions again. Then I was as good as new.
2 of my cousins are also physical therapists, many of my cousins are physicians (Medical doctors), others are in public health advocacy, dietician, medical technologists...We are all healthcare workers who work together as a team! Referring each other to other internal specialists, treatments, rehabs, or therapies is how we can help make this world a healthier place, together!

  • @hiralbhattphysiotherapist338

Ya lack of proper awareness among medical professionals and lay men is the real problem that specially indian physiotherapists are facing.
From my own experience I can say that who knows about our field are really very respectful toawrds physios and field but at the same time some so called well educated people are also saying that this field is just about massage and simple exercises that everyone knows.
However I want to say that change can be made by us only so please don't settle for anything less specially in India, speak and spread right information about Physiotherapy.
And you guys have focused on right point in this video.Keep it up guys 👍
