  • Reavers of Midgard is a single worker placement game with elements of set collection, dice combat and engine building set in the Champions of Midgard universe.
In Champions of Midgard, your quest was to become Jarl. You battled back the trolls, draugr and some of the epic monsters that once threatened the sanctity of your humble port town. Now it's time to go on the offensive.
The second game in the Midgard lineup. A point salad with a ton of colour and a huge box! Not 3 things that usually go together. Will this combination result in a solid Euro even if the theme is a little.........lost?

When I played the base game of Champions of Midgard, I too had the same issues with luck. A few weeks ago, we played with both expansions, and while I liked the base, I *loved* it with the expansions. Dark Mountains is OK but not necessary; Valhalla is a must.

It's one of the highest items on my "to try" list - someone needs to show me it with both expansions ideally, but I'll settle for Valhalla on its own.

Played this at GENCON, I need to play it more but it definitely has a lot going on. I think on first impressions I still like Champions of Midgard a lot more. I didn't like Champions by itself until I got the Valhalla expansion. Someone convinced me to get the expansion and it fixed the game for me actually.
Reavers board is very very busy. Good review brother!

All your concerns are valid, this is from someone that really enjoys this game.
We just decided to tweak a few things. Nothing major.
It is like you said way too easy to remove terror tokens. There's 7 of those runic cravings that allow you to remove terror and give one player a terror. We removed 4 of those cards. There's artifacts, territories, 10 sea battles that allow you to remove terror that's plenty.
The recruit reavers bonus is too weak receiving just two favor tokens. Nobody wants to use their one action going here. We just changed the reward to gaining a third reavers off the top. This makes going there way more tempting. More dice and more specialized reavers!
By the way, hated champions of midgard with and without the expansions. Good luck with that venture.

Dark Mountain is more to add spaces to fight for larger player count, and Valhalla removes the luck of the dice by giving you death chits that you can spend, thus some players want to loose there troops in a fight. Leader dice, Hunter and Barbarian dice great with the expansion, it will change your mind. I held off on Reavers because of the artwork on the board. I feel like it will give me a seizure just looking at it. example at 6:06

Ha ha yes, it's a busy board no doubt.

Agreed. CoM + Valhalla is an awesome game, one of my favorites, plays well with 2, 3, 4 and 5. The DM exp I only use when playing with 5, sometimes with 4.

Hi. I like watching your videos and I think my taste is quite close to yours. I do have a suggestion though. Your review videos tend to go a little long, with a lot of repetition. For instance, you could have said everything you said in this video in 10 minutes. Perhaps, having a structure (and the outline of a script) for the review might help. Keep up the good work.

My plays at 4 are solid, as are 2. 3 adds the stupid honor ship mechanic. It is a different animal than Champions and I am curious to see if they expand it. So far I have really enjoyed this game. Now 10 plays from now,who knows

I was lukewarm on this game when the Kickstarter was up. Not a game that jumps out enough to warrant the cost. I also have enough games that do the same.
I do still enjoy Champions of Midgard, but will also only play with the expansions, especially Valhalla.

I was not a fan of Champions of Midgard either, but had high hopes for Reavers. However, the lack of a solo mode has killed the game for me. I do not have anyone to play it with. I hope someone comes up with a solo variant!

When mine arrives, I’ll have a look at a solo mode for you :)

It can be back stabby in a game. Also, when it is someone's else turn and you can't do anything; there is a rest action. I don't think you mentioned it. Most of the cards are explained in the back too. Also if you haven't played the expansions DO IT!!!! Like skullport to Lords of Waterdeep, it is essential.

I did mention the Rest action as well as the cards explanation, although I don't think every card is there only the ones they deemed odd.
