      Nowadays the beds are getting shorter, cabs are getting bigger. They’re stuffing every option you can think of in them. People just drive em around like a car. Hauling 5.5 foot of air. Some of the GMC’s even have vibrating seats cause that’s not completely unnecessary and borderline gay.

      Believe it or not, the 94 Ram was the beginning of automakers starting to market trucks as fully-equipped luxury vehicles. And its where truck buyers started to use them as a flex. Ford and Chevrolet followed suit and now if you go on a dealer lot looking for a truck, you won't find any for less than 25 to 30k - forget about a non crewcab or a longbed.

      Loooooved the Durango. I had a chance to drive a 99 Durango 5.9 4x4 for a few weeks (back in 03) and I was in love. The design of the Durango after that first generation was just trash and has been ever since.

      @Bartonovich52 Před 3 lety

      Uh... you mean the Dakota?
      The Dakota was dumb. Yeah.. it was bigger and had a V8... but that was the stupid mentality that killed the light truck market.
      If you wanted a big truck with a V8.. you just bought an F-150 or Silverado 1500 or Ram 1500.
      But no.. here’s a truck that costs 90% of what a full size truck does and it can’t carry a sheet of plywood flat in the box like any minivan can. So it’s just there to look pretty. It’s not small, cheap, or economical nor can it do anything.
      Now Ford Rangers and S-10s and Sonomas are going up in value because there’s nothing to replace them.

      No, I meant the Durango. It had the same design language as the full size and it looked great. I can remember back then how it was seen as something special to have and then the redesigned Tahoe took over as the cool SUV but the Durango was still good looking. The Dakota has always been a little bit bigger than the ranger and S-series. Personally, i like/d the Ranger and bought one instead. We still have a ‘11 Ranger in our fleet and a ‘11 Tacoma but the Ranger is my preference out of the two. Even though the interior is pretty much the exact same as the 95, I still choose the Ranger every time over the Taco. I’m with ya, I wish they made a compact truck and maybe we’ll actually get a courier in the US

      By the late 90s? Lol you kids must have not been alive when people started buying them as “status symbols” or personal A to B transporters back in the 70s, or hell even before then. Back around that time, Ford trucks had a “premium trim” called the Lariat (still do) and the interior looked like something out of a Mercury car. Something out of the ordinary for a pickup truck at the time.

    My dream truck is the Twister model, a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT club cab, long bed, 4x4, 8L V10 in Red. That is the exact specifications of the one in Twister my favorite movie of all time.

      I can agree. I own a 97 1500. And that cup holder placement was a horrible idea. I never use mine

      They have a cupholder? Lmao. That dash kills me. Missing the cupholder, top of the dash is in about 12 pieces under the cloth and the little coin tray has the side busted out

      It was for the most part. This issue was that they required regular servicing (band adjustment) and fluid changes. They called for ATF+4. But people and even some dealers would put in far cheaper mercon/dextron trans fluid in them. That kills them in a heartbeat. Even if you change the fluid back to ATF+4, the life of the trans was already severely shortened.

    Ive had 3 2nd gens and 3 3rd gens. 2nd gen will always be my favorite as a 94 2wd 2dr was my first vehicle at 16. Loved that truck and still hate myself for selling it about 10 years ago.
