      Not really. Tons of questions.
      For example, why do the reps need 10 minutes to get a pick from home office? If the draftee pool is a finite amount, and the teams already know the order of the picks, why can't the team go into draft night with a contingency-based list already in hand? (e.g. "we want Bob. If we can't get Bob, we'll take Jeff. If we can't get Jeff, we'll take Fred," etc.)
      The vid makes it seem as though the teams decide who gets what player. Don't the players get a say? What if they don't want to go to that team? What about salary? Isn't that negotiated as well or do all draftees get paid the same no matter what team they go to?
      What about other players? Are these players the only players the team can obtain? Can't the team just go to some hick college and select a player no other team is aware of and negotiate a salary directly? Why do some go in the NFL draft and others are not?
      This mentioned Trades but it didn't explain how/when that typically occurs. Is that just trades for pick position? (which, again, would be worked out before draft night via conversations between teams) Or are they actually able to trade current players and draftees?

    And the NFL draft is the key for every team in the NFL the help turn their team around. Drafting can make dynasties if you draft right. And in 1974 they drafted Lynn Swann John Stallworth Jack Lambert and Mike Webster Four future hall-of-famer. Hell Make it If you count Donnie Shell He was non drafted free agent signed in 1974. But the point is in free agency and good drafting in one short year the steelers added 5 future hall-of-famer to their team which created a dynasty.

    European viewer here with a few questions:
    1) So the worst teams get the best players?
    2) What if a young talent does not want to play for a loser team but was hoping to play for a good team instead?
    3) Assuming losing teams have less money - who decides their salary?

    • @MrPozart
      @MrPozart Před 3 lety +3

      1) Well, the worst teams have the opportunity to pick the players who best meet their necessities. In a way, the worst teams get the best players, yes. That way all the rosters are more balanced and the competition is more exciting (on the paper, at least).
      2) In NFL (and professional US sport in general) there are not "loser" and "winner" teams like in Europe, since the draft system is designed to equilibrate the rosters. Besides, as professional sport is viewed as show business, fan loyalty can be volatile so it is difficult that a player really prefers one team over another one. Moreover, teams can change the franchise territory, moving from Oakland to Las Vegas for instance, so...
      3) There is something called salary cap, that means that all the teams have the same budget to pay their players salaries (like in Monopoly, where all the players start with the same money). Yo can not have two mega-stars in the same team because then yo won't have money to pay the other 50+ players of your squad .

    • @generalbomb1628
      @generalbomb1628 Před 4 lety +5

      Kachow oww, there are thousands of college football players every year that hope to be drafted, even to be picked from 200 to 256 is an honor. Those players that are not picked either have to give up their dream or try to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent. Where they can basically pick whatever team they want to play for because no one wanted them. The pay is worse the drafted players and it’s not even a certainty that a team will even sign them. But almost every year there is usually a happy story of an undrafted player that becomes a breakout star.

      @@generalbomb1628 thanks for explaining that, never understood the draft, even im from Denmark like Morten Andersen. But what ud they dont want to Play for a certen team ?

    • @generalbomb1628
      @generalbomb1628 Před 4 lety +3

      n-dog hansenmand, is your question asking what if a player is drafted to a team they don’t like. Well almost all players are happy to be on any team because one, college players make no money, the NCAA is very strict that players can’t make money off their brand. But once they are drafted they get a lot of money to pay for all their efforts. Now if a player doesn’t like the team they either have to decline their contract but they wouldn’t be allowed to play with any team and make zero money. Or they could request a trade to another team. However they have little control because once a team drafts you, they control where you play, some players will try to become a problem to force a trade, but once the team decides to trade you, they pick where you go so you again may go somewhere you don’t like. Now I almost never see a player who was just drafted request a trade, it’s usually veteran star players that want a trade. Again most players drafted are happy with any team. And players get more money if they are drafted higher. And teams give all drafted players a 4 year deal for a small amount of money(it’s a lot of money but little for NFL players). Once that 4 year deal is done then these players can get full control of what they want to do. They can resign with the same team for star money or sign somewhere else with a team that pays them a lot. Also the first 32 picks in the draft have an extra thing in their contracts where after the 4th year, the team can choose to extend you to a 5th year for the same money. Then in their 6th year teams must sign you to a new deal with more money if that team wants to keep you.

    • @generalbomb1628

      JTW, In 2018, a runningback named philip lindsay was an undrafted player that was once living in his parents basement. He went on in his first season to have 1000 rushing yards(which is considered really good, especially when your undrafted). And he was named a pro bowler which is a great honor but in recent years not as much, the pro bowl is kinda a popularity contest but the fact he was a pro bowler means he is among the top of the league. In 2019 he was less noticed but had a decent season but not as good as 2018(mainly because his team sucked). He plays with the denver broncos.

Obviously for someone like me I’d never even get a chance to walk on. But for someone like Barkley, if teams knew he wasn’t entering the draft and instead was going to walk on, teams would definitely let him try out. He’s a freak of nature, and that way he could be on any team he wanted pretty much.

      David Parkes that helps make sense of it a little. I am just curious as to what would happen if a player finishes his college career and just says no the NFL and the Draft all together. You know? Like, you don’t have to enter the draft. Barkley could say no, and say he’s pursuing a different career path like becoming a doctor lol idk. But after the draft is done he could be like “hey, I wanna play in the NFL, the draft is over but I can go to teams and ask for a tryout” and of course teams will give him a tryout. &well yeah he’d bypass the draft entirely and he’d possibly be on a playoff bound team instead of a not so good team like Browns, or Buccaneers.
      I am not trying to trash the Browns but I just think of someone like Joe Thomas. The dude was unbelievable but he was on a poorly ran team in the Browns his whole career :( the guy should have been protecting legends like Manning or Brady you know?

    Rumour has it that Baker Mayfield will go number 1. Now I like him the most but Darnold had been the number 1 QB all year. This reminds me of Smith going number 1 instead of Rodgers. The Browns should take Darnold and not Mayfield.

    So can the player actually chose his own club or not, i mean can he say like: "nah man, i don't like this club, i want to go to the other club" or what?

    • @ownthispwn

      that's what Im wondering. I assume they usually take the first choice because the earlier they go the more money they get

      The player can reject the team who picked him but them you have to wait and see if anyone else wants you... Not a great idea, especially when you're not the biggest talent.

      I don't think that's even an option in the NFL for these players. Most of them just want to get a foot in there. There's always swaps and they can join other teams in the future if they perform well.
