      This version is the most accurate and sticks to the story as closely as one can in dramatisation. It had a small circulation but the social media feedback from people was very good. It was very powerful and captured the reality of warefare and sacrifice and heroism that came at a huge cost and price in the pursuit of freedom. What struck me watching was the likeness of the actor playing Heydrich to the real character. This gave it a strange authenticity.

Unfortunately, as a descendant of a soldier and a Czechoslovak war veteran, I do not agree with you. Reinhard Heydrich was a very dangerous man who was behind the establishment and organization of the purges in Czechoslovakia and the architect of the so-called final Jewish question. It was he who invented and set up concentration extermination camps for the civilian population. Yes, after his death the SS took revenge, but if he lived, he would do far more damage not only in my home country, but throughout Europe .... His liquidation was right ... I apologize for my worse English, but I wanted put things right. But if you are not convinced, I will tell you that Reinhard Heydrich was nicknamed the Prague executioner, you may find it quite eloquent.

    They show, displayed a lot of courage and honor but it was unnecessary. The Czech Republic was NOT under such terror like Poland or USSR. You could survive, Prague was not destroyed, so other cities. The action on Reinhard created only a wild unhuman vengeance of German dogs. The village Lidice was destroyed and nihilated. Children were gassed. Families killed. Heydrich of course was a brutal unhuman animal but he treated Czech as workers for 3Rd Reich. He tried to use stock and carrot but he didn't kill Czech blindly like Frank in Poland. Also, the total anihilation was "reserved for Jewish", not. Heydrich was an architect of practical solution, he conducted famous conference in Wannsee, he was delegated by Himmler to complete Jewish holocaust. He will be killed nevertheless after defeating of Germany.
    To conclude, this victims, this sacrifice was a beauty story but totally stupid and unnecessary. They killed themselves but children from Lidice didn't have such opportunity. They had to watch their parents dying. It is good to fight against enemy but wisely, not losing your mind. The big winner of that action was Churchill and GB who wanted to create a mess also in Czech because they expected issue for Germany in Eastern Europe, exactly like they pushed Poland into war with Germany. They won time to build more tanks, aircrafts and weapons but the payment went to Eastern Europe.

    • @rehurekj
      @rehurekj Před rokem +10

      actually, it was necessary from the political point of view, I'm not saying if the price Czechs paid was worth it or not, but at this point at war the internationally recognised borders of Czechia/ Czechoslovakia were still the Munich ones so exile govt in London needed something to show the exile politicians have still some authority in Czechia and influence over resistance movement and Czechoslovakia even in exile is still one of allies, one of belligerents, to sway the political will of western allies to admit their own mistake and annul Munich so postwar Czechoslovakia is fully restored within its rightful borders and not as the rump state that was 2nd republic which was still possibility at this point.
      It could've still happen without the assassination, we don't and can't know, but we do know that before killing of Heydrich the western allies were still rather reluctant to say so, not so after we successfully executed him.
      PS despite Czechs being treated rather mildly under Heydrich, we can't know it'd last or how long, he changed the harshness of regime before according to what Reich and he needed, so its quite possible he would go berserk as war progressed and Reich became more desperate, so there's certainly non-zero chance much of the post-assassination terror could befall on Czechia anyway, just later in the war and without the connected prestige and political advantage for exile govt.

      It's not like it's the fault of the paratroopers that Nazis chose a random village and destroyed it. The Nazi murderers chose a random village not at all connected to the assassination and the Nazi murderers killed the people there. Murdered parents in from of their children. The fault is entirely theirs. How could this be a fault of the paratroopers? How could have they know they would do such a random inhumane thing?
      Plus Heydrich was already killing Czech intelligentsia and Jewish population. His plan was to Germanize part of the population and to kill or move the rest to Siberia. And you cannot know what he would have done and whether he would have been killed at the end of the war.

    Ovšem, hlavní myšlenka tam však zazněla. Naprosto nesmyslná, zbytečná akce.

      Far from being useless to me. It's nice to be able to have subtitles in Czech also. Think what you want anyway. Respect to those people for what they chose to do. It must not be forgotten.

      @@praguestagfun4168 how was this operation important for the course of WW2? Led to a brutal crackdown on local population. Didn't stop the holocaust. It was a stupid idea ramifications weren't thought through. If they were going to assassinate anyone they should have gone for the Boss ie Hitler. That might have stopped the war.
