The extra spike is actually quite insignificant in the long run, 0-2-5 will be producing more spikes, but it won’t change it enough for the tie to be broken. I would assume 18.6 is the highest dps it can go, so it’s higher than the 2-0-5 but not enough to make it decisive
025 perma-spike actually has a bigger max amount of spikes since the spikes despawn on a timer/wave rather than amount (atleast what i remember from what isab said)

Yeah and you also need the tower for the buff that makes towers do all damage to all types of balloons so some balloons types won't be immune to the Perma spike than doesn't have the hot nails upgrades.

Honestly I feel like the top path should allow for more spikes to be stored so it fits better as a "barrier" for just in case your defense is trash while the other has puts out more tacks per second but can't hit the same amount saved up as the top path. One for long term, one for short term.
I usually always go too path because of more damage for building up a bigger stack. Go too if you are playing long game (20+ rounds) or middle for anything shorter
Another consideration is whether you are using it for constant DPS or as burst DPS against specific rounds. If you want burst DPS go top crosspath because it can have more total pierce on the field at one time due to the limit on active spikes
I always go for a 2-0-5 spactory with a 3-0-1 alch - I find that you never really need to upgrade to stronger stim with top path, saving $3240, and I always end up using snowstorm/absolute zero with permaspike so top path ensures frozen bloons don't get rid of an entire spike pile
Just put a M.I.B village and go 0-2-5 and place it at the end of the track so it just builds up and up and up and UP until it instantly pops the bloons 😊
My rule of thumb for spike traps. Alchemy 4-2-0 (keep other towers clear of area) and village 2-3-0 and get the spike 0-2-5. Permanently Pops all bloons with damage and speed boost. If you got the cash and go super late game or farm a lot, get 0-4/5-2 construction monkey and boost spikes whenever you can spare. Best safety netting.
Not only 2/0/5 better because it can pop lead and such, it also benefits more from start of the round attack speed bonus, so without alch you should always go for 2/0/5 even if you dont care about lead and such

If you go For middle path without an alchemist you can't pop lead, so top path is better for that reason too
