      Just modify the recipe to what you can afford.
      Meats are the #1 thing you can change out, especially being ground, or just buy cheap ground beef. Especially here, the seasoning of the meat is going to be front and center anyway.
      Plan out your meals to use similar ingredients for a week.
      Spices can be stored for a long time so there's that.
      Honestly, it does take experience and knowledge of ingredients to know what options you have, but there are tons of resources to see what can be replaced and changed in a revipe

      His cooking videos are most for spectacle and cooking theory.
      I approach and have found success by finding interesting components of a recipe and incorporating those into existing, easier meals.
      Also a kitchen is like a workshop - you won't have all this stuff on hand instantaneously. It takes years and years to build out these "toolbelts" for all these hobbies.
      These things get easier to make if you continue to have a passion for cooking and a desire to try new recipes.

      @@m1n10ns8 Yeah bro you cook for 6+, that isn't a regular family dynamic everywhere (hell most anywhere in the staple European and American low to middleclass urban, modern day household).
      Also who the hell has money to spend on a deep fryer? FFS the money you need for that oil! No, an air fryer is much more affordable.
      Since you have a large group to cook for on the reg, of course it could make sense you need to spend that much. You're pretty much required to buy in bulk to feed that many mouths and as such would have the shit you need on hand. (At least the basic stuff, Wiessman also gets random exotic shit and just "expects people to have it on hand" like it's bloody AP flour, butter, rice, and olive oil.
      Being able to shop better isn't the issue, even his "but cheaper" things wouldn't really be affordable to the class of people he's trying to market it towards.
      Also as the other guy said this is a copy pasta, you took this exact statement a few times (god knows cause I read em) and slapped it here as well.
      Is the stuff he makes good? Sure, but it's also pretentious and not cheap...
      Ya got 6+ people (I guess including you?) how many people you cook for that actually have an income and contribute to the grocery tax? I'd assume at least one of them.

      @recap1843 Před rokem +5

      @@EdgeLie Hey man I feel ya, and yeah the main problem I had with the fryer was the oil not the module (I know some smaller ones are affordable) but yeah the main issue is the oil (and hell I do tend to save it, but you can only do that so much before the oil gotta go).
      It's been a while since I watched this but I still think my points stand that this isn't something someone can just do whenever if you're just feeding yourself or a handful of people. At least this is what I get from Wiessman whenever he makes one of the "but cheaper" vids.
      My main issue however was this guy saying "we just need to buy better" like that's the real issue here. This guy most likely has a membership at some wholesale club like Costco which isn't gonna be available to everyone if it isn't in their area or if they really can't afford that monthly membership fee (It can only really save you money if you make use of such a membership).
      But yeah my biggest gripe is not with Joshua (while I do have a minor one for his... unusual list of "casual everyday ingredients" but rather the people the assume the viewers who make such statements are just "doing [insert random blanket statement here] wrong"

It’s an impressive show of his own skill, but I really dislike that he presents what he’s doing as “easy” and “affordable”and “just taking a little bit of extra time.”
    His “easy and affordable” ways to create homemade versions of store products only make sense if you have a ton of free time, access to specialty ingredients, and built-up culinary skills. You know, like if you’re a chef.

    they coincide perfectly...joshua is NOT someone to use for recipes. not only was it a pain in the ass but half of his instructions lacked clear directions or proper measurements so scaling it up was a nightmare and going on look and taste for MY FIRST TIME MAKING IT DOESNT FRICKIN WORK JOSHUA. then it took for-fucking-ever.

    Your vids fill an interesting niche. They're not just food entertainment like Babish or Joshua, who make recipes no home cook is ever actually gonna make, and you're also not quite like Adam Ragusea or Ethan Chlebowski who make very instructionsl food sciency videos with an emphasis on home chef stuff.
    You're kind of inbetween where you make food entertainment that is ALSO informative to the home chef.
    Love your work man, keep it up

    Jicama tastes a bit like lettuce with a bit of apple. It has a texture that reminds me of carrots but airierIt’s nice with hot weather if you add some tajin and lemon. But if you don’t like fresh fruits and vegetables, you probably wouldn’t like it by itself. Though, if you slice it thin and fry it’s a low carb potato chip alternative

    Did you know if you have a fully stocked kitchen with fresh ingredients, professional chef skills, and block out 30 minutes of time with no distractions, you too can prepare a delicious meal under $7 so long as don't factor preparation time and opertunity cost into your budget.

    • @Ryuujinv01
      @Ryuujinv01 Před 11 měsíci

      If you're worried about having a kitchen with basic every meal use ingredients like onions and flour, you're probably not in a position to be worrying about the opportunity cost of your time. Like you're not Bezos worrying about the time spent bending over to pick up $1,000 being a net loss. Time of course is the most valuable resource any human has, but only a small percentage of the population can actually treat it as such. Also there's a plethora of people out there that consider preparing and consuming a gourmet meal for themselves or others as a very good use of their time not a sunk cost they'll never get back.
