    In the Dominican Republic, children assume two last names, one each from their father and mother. Culturally the father’s last name is listed first, followed by the mother’s last name. David America Ortiz Arias is his full legal name. When they made his early cards, it was likely just a lack of understanding of the cultural norms, which he subsequently had corrected by specifying that the convention is to be referred to by their father’s last name (Ortiz).

    For reselling these grade flips as an eBay seller you also need to account for the higher selling fees on higher value.
    For example that PSA 9 ohtani from going 20$ to 40$.. this now makes the card unable to be shipped with a PWE and your eBay fees will be going up by $2 versus at $20 sale.
    So your eBay fee and shipping cost to sell this card in a 9 is gonna be roughly 5-6$ higher than if you sold raw at $20 with a PWE shipping.
    It’s not huge but these extra fees add up big in this price range and make “break even” cards unprofitable
    Same thing with the Burrow very next card. You lost $5 but I’d say you actually lost closer to $10. (if you’re an eBay seller doing this) it’s gonna cost an extra 3.50 to ship the card now and the fees will be an additional 1.50 over selling it at $20 raw.

    PSA has been pretty good to me lately. With ultra modern I've been at about a 70% gem rate and I just got back a vintage order and I got 2 9's from 1972 Topps football of some chiefs hall of famers(Willie Lanier and Buck Buchanan). Also got an 8 on a 64 topps killebrew and a 8 on my winfield, fisk and eddie murray rooks. The rest wasn't as hot. Got a 4 on my bench rookie and a 5 on my mike schmidt rookie.

    A lot of folks don’t look closely at the grading standards for PSA (I’m not referring to you), but a PSA 9 graded card can be MASSIVELY OFF CENTER, 65/35 to be precise. This translates to the “bigger border” being nearly 2 TIMES as wide as the more narrow border, which to most is wildly OC. Anyways, PSA has by far the loosest centering standards in card grading, barring only garage companies. That Griffey is WELL within 65/35. Fun return!

    David Ortiz - full name is David Ortiz Arias - as is common with Spanish names, the father's last name comes first followed by the mother's last name. Americans frequently make that mistake. If you go to a bookstore, you will usually find Nobel prize Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez incorrectly filed under M. After that rookie year, Ortiz became well enough known that the card companies got it right after that.

  • @tarsakh22
    @tarsakh22 Před 4 měsíci +2

    Chris, can you talk about your thoughts on the importance of centering on a card? I noticed you mentioned a number of times in this video how a card was a bit off center, so no way it could grade a 10. Yet on PSA's web site under Grading Standards it states a PSA can be 60/40 on the front and 75/25 on the reverse and still be a 10 by PSA. Do you feel PSA's grading definitions don't line up with what results you get back?
    What is even stranger to me is PSA states it's 9 rating is 65/35 on front or better and 90/10 or better on the reverse. A 9 is even stricter than the PSA 10 for the reverse. How much does centering really affect a card's rating?

    • @collectorinvestordealer
      @collectorinvestordealer  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think those centering standards used to be used, but I think PSA has become much stricter than that recently. They used to give 60/40 cards 10s, but in my experience they generally do not anymore.

      The entire idea of the video is to figure out the added value of selling a card raw vs getting it graded and selling it after being graded, not the entire profit of the card(as that would be nearly impossible to determine when bought in a large collection).@@rlsfrny

    In regards to your ethics in selling video, are you going to mention you think that Griffey 9 should have been an 8 in your listing title? 😂 Just kidding.
