First Hunt With My New Metal Detector - Tesoro Compadre ("PRO")

  • This is my first hunt with the Tesoro Compadre "Pro".
    Yes, I bought another metal detector. You may ask: "why"? Because I like metal detectors and I'm curious how some of them perform.
    I have chosen a modified "Pro" version with an additional volume control knob, because taping the speaker is not an option (anymore) and this thing is loud! The Pro version has also a 5-pin connector for interchangeable coils.
    How did it perform? I have chosen the worst location I have right now. An abandoned vineyard with bad soil, trash, iron and lots of coke. When I checked this spot with the Deus and the 9" HF coil, it was a very frustrating experience...
    The Compadre had no problems and was very easy to use. I could connect with this machine right from the start. It was not only fun to use, but also very effective. Iron and good targets in the same hole - no problem!
    I exchanged the stem and used the one from the XP Deus, because it is more ergonomic. The 7" Compadre coil weights around 14.1 oz (400g), which doesn't feel light for the size. The lower rod parts from the original Tesoro stem are too heavy in my opinion. This influences the experience in a negative way. Metal detecting should always be fun, that's why I tried to improve it. I used tape, but I already found a much better solution (which I will show you in my next video).
    Thanks for watching.

    If you need a good build, solid, stable and quiet metal detector with excellent performance in iron, a Tesoro Compadre might be something you should consider. A good metal detector doesn't have to be expensive. I bought this unit for special occasions, where a small coil and good discrimination is crucial.
    A while ago a viewer recommended this machine to me, but back then I considered a single tone detector (without iron tone) as "unacceptable". Two years later I changed my mind and I don't regret it. Of course it's a completely different experience, when the iron tone is not present, but it can be fun. It also is a small, welcome change.
    I bought the "pro" version, because of its additional volume control knob (which should be there in the first place).
    I forgot to mention: The Pro version has also a 5-pin connector for interchangeable coils.
    After this hunt I opened the housing and (slightly) cranked up the internal sensitivity knob. This increased the "depth" (in the air) for another inch without any compromises.
    Thanks for watching.

      I have seen some Tesoro Lobo videos and always found it very interesting (especially the pleasant audio). Unfortunately the last time I checked, the price was over 850 Euro. It was too expensive to buy it, just to "try it out" (and maybe not use it). The lack of iron tone was probably the main reason, why I hesitated. Maybe some day...

    Great movie, I see that Tesoro was able to dig something out. Try the Cscope 1220xd detector, an old good type non motion detector. There is a possibility of tuning your tesoro for ground balance, You just need to be able to solder electronics and earn 1 knob

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you. I think, the Compadre did great at this difficult location. I will think about a ground balance knob. It would be nice if I could try every detector, unfortunately that's not possible. But I will at least try to find some info about the Cscope. The "Compass Coin Scanner Pro" looks very interesting too. Have a nice day.

    Good day !!! As analogue Tesoro fan in past, i recommend you to buy bulgarian Tracian )) After 5 years of Tesoros (Silver, Cibola) i buy that thing and was completely amazed. It has 2 powerful things - volume control and 2 TONES (low for metal, hight for copper/bronze/silver etc). Much deeper, brilliant separation, greater power bank. Think and read about it ! In addition it is cheap machine.

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  Před 7 lety +1

      Das XP Gestänge ist wirklich ergonomisch. Die unteren Teile des Tesoro Gestänges kamen mir relativ schwer vor. Die Spule ist mit ihren 400g auch nicht ohne, was in Kombination (zusammen mit unteren Teilen) schon einen Unterschied ausmacht. Mit einer kleineren 5,75" Spule wäre das Erlebnis bestimmt noch besser.

    Excellent video!! and Congrats on the new detector! I am so used to seeing the Deus coil swinging in frame, but that's ok...I will get used to it :) I am very impressed how you learned/"caught on" with the new detector so fast. Even I (by hearing the sounds) could tell if it was worth looking into or just pass it. It seems I picked up on that fast...and I wasn't even there :) I think it really forces you to "hear" the sounds and not rely on VDI numbers. This is a good thing I suspect.
    I am also thinking using the good old fashion potentiometer vs segment blocking is better. With potentiometer you can really fine tune a cut-off point compared to letting a program/pre-set blocking to do it.
    The new machine did very well for you. It seemed very easy to get the hang of it. I am impressed :)
    Thanks again for all the hard work you do to put these videos out for us to enjoy. I appreciate it! Always look forward to your next one!
    Thanks again, hope all is well your way. Some really nice finds this time BTW.
    Take care, and Happy Hunting to you on your next!

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  Před 7 lety +1

      Hello John, thank you very much. I'm glad you could connect with the Compadre during the video. I had a small advantage (I forgot to mention). I bought a Tesoro Mojave when it came out, but I made only 2-3 very short hunts with this unit (the lack of volume control drove me crazy). It is similar to the Compadre, but it had a concentric coil.
      It took me one hunt to figure out, that a relatively slow and narrow coil sweep speed (at low discrimination level) is only causing trouble (iron chirps in the audio sound like "something good, that wants to get out").
      Maybe it was the nature of the DD coil, but when I tried the Compadre for the first time in this video, I used a different approach - a relatively fast, confident sweep speed which seemed to work straight away. It was great fun too - that's all that counts.
      I went on a walk yesterday and accidentally discovered a short, abandoned, but very trashy path. This could be a case for the Compadre in the near future...
      Have a great day and Happy Hunting!

    When your digging we can't see what ya doing

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  Před 7 lety +1

      The sweep speed has to be (relatively) fast, because that's the only way to "break up" the signal (at low discrimination level) on iron targets. This also is my hunting style (the camera is only there to capture the detecting, it can't influence what's in front of it).
      As for the digging part - the terrain is very steep, it is very uncomfortable to stand. That's why it is (sometimes) impossible to get everything in frame. I apologized for it during the video. I could cut certain scenes out, but I decided not to in hope, people will understand, considering the circumstances. Thanks for the comment. Have a nice day.

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  Před 7 lety

      Is is very hard to say, which machine would take advantage over the other ones, because at the end of the day, they all perform more or less equal (in many situations).
      I'm using XP Deus the most, because it is very light, sensitive to small/thin targets and it fits my (fast) hunting style. Am I 100% happy with it? Sometimes, but not so much lately (for example), so it changes constantly.
      At this particular location I had much less "stress" with the Compadre (I was using the new 9" HF coil on the Deus before. The coil was "too wide", it also picked up every bit of coke - in 2-Tone mode). I think, it all comes down to personal preferences.
