      Vehicle ignition should be off but these obd2 readers will work with the vehicle engine on as well.

    Thank you so much. I have a 2003 Toyota Camry. Replaced the transmission and catalytic converter. The check engine light goes off for 20’ish miles and then turns back on. The maintenance light turned on, I found out that means change oil. Did that, plus new filter, checked fluids etc,. Technicians checked the code which showed no problem, 20ish miles later check engine light is back on. I’m gonna follow your instructions. Forgot to say one technician said to other something about the maintenance light being connected to the check engine light. I was so happy, live in CA and thought my problems were over for now. Is this a known issue?

    I think the video was helpful yet if you could talk a little bit slower and give a little bit more information .
    I sort of was able to pick out what you were trying to say because of my previous mechanical experience but generally probably informing people what you are doing and why you are doing it would help out a little bit

    Thank you for this video. Great information. I think I'll buy a scanner. Question: How do you shut off the check engine light without having cleared the codes? I got somebody to scan mine but they didn't clear the codes and my check engine light is still on. I tried holding the odometer reset button and turning key on to position 2 but it doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  Před 2 lety

      If the check check engine light doesn’t show before you start the vehicle your check the it will obd2 ready and see what the status is for mil and it if it shows off then your check the light bulb in the dash. Sometimes people damage the light bulb so when selling to fool others that there is nothing wrong with the car.

      Hayder, What code did you get(Pxxxx)? Was it one code or multiple codes? Did you buy a oem exact fit or after market 02 sensor which you wired up yourself? Lastly are you getting the same code(s) as before?

      You need to check which codes dtc are present on your vehicle using an obd2 reader. There should be a link in the video description.
      Write down the codes and clear it again, wait for to codes pop back up and then figure what is causing the new codes to pop back up.
      Good luck and let me know how it goes.

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  Před 2 lety

      Once you pull the code from the scanner you need to research possible causes. Try typing in the year make model of your vehicle along with that code ( dtc) and you will get a some pretty good idea what it can be.

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  Před 6 lety +1

      Here is a $10 fix that I've seen many many people use amzn.to/2BO7cqI or try lacquer thinner if don't have the money now to fix it properly ( replace cats normally ) If your in california for example, the monitors have to be ready in order to SMOG the car. Have your gas more than 3/4 and no less than 1/4 tank, start your vehicle in the morning and let you idle for 15 minutes, then drive it on the freeway for at least 30 miles and don't turn off your vehicle when you go in for testing if possible, if you need me to make a video for you let me know. Good luck.
      other possible causes of p0420
      Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required. Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady). Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor, replace if necessary Replace the catalytic converter

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  Před 6 lety

      Hi Thang, If the code(s) that are causing your check engine light to come on are hard set which means your check engine light comes right back when you reset the code it means you have permanent code / open loop circuit which the computer is able to detect right away. What code(s) are you are retrieving? If you need help give your year model and I will try to help best I can. _RandomFix

    • @thangnguyen10
      @thangnguyen10 Před 6 lety

      RANDOMFIX, I triple checked, and there isn't any code at all after scannes multiple times. There was none dtc code either. So i guess that was why it didn't let me to erase since there was none to erase. Despite that, the Maint( in letter instead od check engine ) light still on. I followed your instructions to clear from the odometer rsetwhile turning key on/off but it did not work either. So I guess a trip to the dealership for Maintenance is unavoidable.

    Figure 1. Locate the fuse box near the steering column on the driver's side.
    Step 2 - Remove the ECU fuse
    Check the diagram on the inside of the fuse cover to locate the ECU fuse.
    Pull the fuse labeled for the ECU.
    Figure 2. Pull the fuse designated for the ECU.
    Step 3 - Turn on your car
    Turn the ignition to the ON position only, but don't turn over the engine.
    Wait for a few minutes.
    Replace the ECU fuse.
    The CEL should flash, then go out.
