- A century before Jack the Ripper, a long-forgotten fiend haunted the streets of London. He became known as the 'London Monster' and his modus operandi was to stalk well-to-do Georgian ladies.
Hysteria gripped the city; sightings of a long-limbed ‘monster’ were reported on many a dimly-lit street corner. With the police seemingly outsmarted at every turn, it created one of the earliest examples of what would later become known as a ‘moral panic’.

I wrote a novel called The London Monster a couple of years ago (published last year), and the "lively' gentleman in this video was my foremost expert. He was formerly a professor in Wales and England and a renowned expert on this villain and other similar historical figures who perpetrated crimes. Currently, he is based in Scotland.
Sounds like they got the right man. One of the victims recognized him in public (randomness), he was a flower maker (mode of attack), and once he was arrested, the attacks ceased (correlation). But... it also sounds like there were copycat criminals and false accusations muddling the evidence.
Artificial flower maker though ;)
And why would the copy cats stop as well? 🤔
@@Miyamoto_Jim - I mean, it makes sense. You'd stop if you didn't want to get caught as a copycat. Let the original criminal take the blame for it all. Right?
@@christopherlarsen7788 yeah maybe, but if ppl are mentally ill to do it in the first place then that wouldn’t stop them. Another great way of not getting caught is to never do it to begin with. Am I making any sense? I will say it’s likely him being that she recognized him but it also genuinely could not be.
@@Miyamoto_Jim - Agreed.
How sad the monster didn’t get historical recognition. Poor monster.
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
That Dr is actually Mike Myers isn't it?
I may have missed it, but how many victims were there?
Around 50
There were actually 56 victims reported, however there is some speculation as to how many of them were real. Some women faked attacks to get attention and be seen in the eyes of other Londoners as a beauty since the monster only attacked attractive women.
Imagine a monster like that roaming around I would put holy water on that monster and send it back to the abyss
They used to put the psychos up front in the battles ...yeh he's a psycho ...but he's "our" psycho
Who is the very, very "unusual" commentator?!?!
meant to frighten the ladies
ask yourself WHY NOW?
