  • The EA Sports NASCAR games have been seen for a long time as the pinnacle of NASCAR gaming, with revolutionary advancements to the license and a continuing bar to hit thanks to the faltering of NASCAR games ever since. But when the series went downhill EA decided to scrap their game in development, NASCAR ‘10. So today I want to look into the brief history of NASCAR ‘10 as well as the lost DLC from NASCAR ‘09 that surely would have been in the next game. This is EA’s lost NASCAR game.

Look let me say this and you probably won’t even respond but just hear me out. I do agree Nascar 21 ignition in terms overall quality is very shit. For example: no rear view mirror, no custom setups, lack of career mode, no challenges, not even a true difficulty setting. And not to mention all of the lack of bugs that it has. But just hear me out when you are able to get into a online session on N21 ignition I’ve actually had more fun on that game than heat 5. Let me explain first when there is no custom setups and everyone can race “clean” then there is no significant advantage which forces you to use your skill more than just your setup. The Plate racing on that game actually is very well done in terms on the way the plate racing is with the new package you can actually get a run and pass someone on either side of you. You can say the game is bad all you want but Heat 5 you can’t tell me you could pass at Daytona or Talladega on the outside in a online lobby it was literally impossible unless you had 2 pushers. This is coming from someone who has the platinum (100%) on every nascar game ever made. Don’t believe look up my user name and it will pull it up on google search. I’m not trying to defend Ignition at all but if people would buy the game cheap now and actually played the online they would see the racing is actually not all bad if people race clean. The no mirror sucks I get that but for the actual driving model it handles smooth as shit. It’s super easy to drive and it’s not super choppy in the corners for example you can’t sit here and tell me that heat 5 was smoother you would see multiple people in public lobbies do crazy S motions on the track. Causing you to wreck because of there lack of holding the car straight. The biggest thing I actually respect N21 ignition for was if you hooked someone in the rear they are going around just like real life but on heat 5 if you try the same thing you go into the wall. The physics on heat 5 honestly makes no sense at all. I agree the game overall is much better but I think people need to actually play the online portion of it first with a open mind and actually review it based off that. I don’t think n21 ignition is great at all I would put it the worst game possibly of all time but I still think heat 1 was way worse. But besides that I would like to hear a reply from you but if anyone wants to reply I would greatly be willing to talk more about this..

I'm really hoping one day in the near future us as Nascar fans can FINALLY have a reputable Nascar game on consoles that comes out on a regualr basis and is full of content by passionate devs not hindered by execs and managment. No iracing isn't for me. I don't want to buy/pay a subscription service for every car/track, where I have to use my real name, be always online in cockpit mode, and if I stop paying can't play. Also yes, I play NR2003 regularly, but I am talking about a modern game here. I know more than anyone NR2003 is still top class in quality but its not too much to ask for a console Nascar game as well in 2022 lol.

I really hope we can see these racing series get some proper coverage in the gaming space. It's tough because its really hard to justify making whole game series and whatnot for each individual racing series, yet the alternative of releasing multiple racing series under a single game is clearly proving to be incredibly difficult to nail for sim racing developers, and hardly feels like a real solution with some of the more popular series (that are still not popular enough to warrant standalone releases) being locked behind paywalls on otherwise already expensive sims.

pyramid scheme is an understatement for all the microtransactions that have become mainstream over the years, dlc was a nice addition for awhile with any game, but it seemed like companies realized that alot of people would be willing to still shell out money after buying the base game and that helped drive the train down the tracks.

If 2004's career mode allowed full driving assists, it would be the best in the series for me, because I love how the career mode is set up. I love Fight to the Top as well, and I think it was better in 06 than 05, which I only got recently. Sawmill is probably my favorite fantasy track and I wish it was in 06. I still have that same PS2, and that same copy of NT04, and I love it. And now, it’s kind of a time capsule. In the first 2 or so years of career mode, it’s awesome seeing Mark Martin, Dale Jarrett, Rusty, Bill Elliott, and Ricky Rudd still tear it up (like the song reference? 😉) and fighting for wins. But, Dale Jr.’s AI was way too good. He could win 10 races a season if you simulated all the races.
I bought every game from 04 to 09. I also have Dirt to Daytona, and I later bought Nascar Thunder 2003. I wish I could mash up everything about 2004’s career with the multiple racing series in 05, with the option to sell your team, like you could in 06.
Everything beyond 2006 was a disappointment. And even 06 was kind of a disappointment. You could spin out if you hit the apron just ever so slightly, and that drove me crazy, because I’d hit the apron to help my car turn at some tracks in 04 and 05. Hit them in the same spots in 06, and you’re doing a 720 before you even know what happened. And that issue didn’t ever leave in 07-09. It really was a shame, and I wish they would’ve kept the engine from 2003/2004 and incorporated it in all the later games.
One good thing they did right was with Mr. Clean Speedway, they kept Rockingham in the game. The backdrop was actually kinda nice for a fantasy track.
Speaking of fantasy tracks, I rarely ever hear anyone mention Tiburon Superspeedway from NT2004. WHAT A GREAT TRACK!!! Love that place!

Man, it feels so strange seeing my video and postings in your content when I've been watching you for years 😄
About the Montreal bugs, yeah those issues are purely on PC with an emulator. In fact it's even worse for me where it just causes a straight up white screen. It is totally fine on actual hardware, but you need to have a modded console to even run it on console now unless you bought it back in the day like I did.
As you mentioned, I believe they would have put this in as an actual track in NASCAR 10. Would have been odd to throw the track out entirely or as DLC again considering that it was made for the previous years game. Would be cool to have the ability to drive trucks or cup cars on Montreal, similar to how you could drive almost any car on any track in the later Heat games. Might be possible to do it in 09 with modding, but I haven't figured it out yet.

As an F1 fan in addition to NASCAR, EA also had plans to make F1 2004 (based on the 2003 F1 season) and release it in the fall of 2003 but Sony (who had the exclusive F1 gaming rights at the time) threatened to sue EA if they did so & the plans were scrapped, making F1 Career Challenge the final F1 game EA would make until F1 '22. This was a blow for F1 fans in the US as the F1 games Sony made from 2003-2006 (with the exception of F1 Championship Edition in 2006 for the PS3) were never released in the US.

It almost happened because the FIA & EA agreed to a deal but then Sony threatened to sue both EA & the FIA. I eel like a part of why the PS1/2 gen games were so good, was because there was no or very limited online, you had worse hardware so it let the creative people show what they could do with limited hardware, CD or DVD space, and having to code around the limitations of the consoles.
That being said. EA put out a whole different series on PC vs consoles, though. On PS2/3 we got Nascar 05 and on, on PC? NASCAR SimRacing. Which, correct me if I'm wrong, but it had 04/05 Busch, 04/05 Cup with testing schemes and several of Dale Earnhardt's schemes put onto a Gen4 body. Wasn't NSR the last, at least on PC, game to officially feature both NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt's licenses in the same game?
That being said, NSR had a pretty good career mode on PC however, used to love the off track stuff and making th brightest, most easily spotted, eye searing cars/trucks I could, somehow. Sponsorless, neon bright, hideous things because why not. Give me a paint kit, give me a team to run, I'll make the worst possible paint schemes possible.

I mean in Thunder 04 he had past paint schemes including the Legacy car with the DEI compass on the hood and the iconic Dale silhouette with the E or three and his iconic signature and by 05 a few paint schemes of Dales was there by 06 and 07 it’s just the black number three and what’s intriguing is that in 06 and 07 for RCR it said he has “no teammates”.

On the other hand, partially NASCAR ThUNdER 2002, even though whoever you select, you’re still in a Winston cup race, same for NASCAR ThUNdER 2003 and NASCAR ThUNdER 2004. Although, for NASCAR 2005 ChASE FOR ThE CUP INTO NASCAR 09, Not to mention Days of Thunder and some of the legend cars, in which I think the legend cars were discontinued after the game NASCAR ThUNdER 2004. As well as the 2010 Days of Thunder game having the main movie cars in it| Rowdy Burns Exxon, Cole Trickle Mello Yello, Cole Trickle Superflo, Cole Trickle City Chevrolet, and Russ Wheeler Hardee’s which The Design of a 2010 video game names Days of Thunder is very well known for, that would be a good idea to throw onto the NASCAR 10 game, also! Sometimes those very five cars are great to to refer to as Legacy and or Legends! No wonder how iconic those race cars are in our NASCAR cycle! In case of this, I actually, honestly, 😆 had a strange kind of dream about this game being an existing masterpiece game!
