So this episode was a lot and contrast quite a bit from the books because Lestat never physically assaults Louis even thought they argue a lot.
I understand from a show standpoint why they did it because aging up Claudia from a child to a teenager they needed a bigger catalyst for her seeking revenge on Lestat and this works.
Lestat at this point in The Vampire Chronicles is still very damaged from essentially being raised, turned and tormented by monsters in Europe like he mentioned.
Even if Louis said he loved him (which Louis does to a degree) Lestat would never believe it because he doesn’t love himself.
What’s about to go down will set up a chain of events that will break them all and Lestat has to lose everything to truly change.

And also affluent houses in the French Quarter are not right next to eachother. There's large courtyards surrounding them. And also Louis and Lestat were reclusive by then, more than usual and the house probably had a reputation that made neighbors want to stay away.
Coincidentally, I had the same thoughts about the incinerator. That must've been rank! But again, I took into account the time period. The sanitation department was probably very crude and a lot of people would have burnt their own garbage. Including the carcasses of butchered meat or spoiled waste from the kitchen. I really love how they portray the characters here. I love how they can go deeper into the dynamic of their relationship. In the movie I really tended to vote for Lestat and saw Louis and Claudia as whiney unthankful bitches, somehow, like "he gives you this gift and you spit in his face. The real destructive toxicness of Lestat doesn't shine through as much in the movies. He's almost...comical in his behavior.
In the series you can clearly see Lestat for what he is: A narcissist with superpowers. Lestat loves Lestat and everything goes dandy as long as everyone caters to Lestat. But lo and behold when someone dares to talk back! And in this episode I could clearly see where their hate and loathing towards Lestat comes from. Here I tend to root for all characters, because they are played out so well, you know. I can understand their struggles. And yes, Lestat's very angry and violent outburst from not getting what he wants from Louis DID shook me to my core. And I predict that he'll either make it up and pretend as if nothing has happened, OR he doubles down on it, believing he's justified for what he did.
It's as Louis said: "Let yourself be seduced as I was seduced." In the first few episodes, Lestat DID seem charming and like many, I WAS seduced so I romanticed him. We see this unfold from a distance and don't feel the toxic jabs he gives to Louis. For the adoring audience, he's still the charming one, until he loses his grip and turns violent. For the others, they saw, just like Louis' family how Lestat really is and tried to warn people.

Kind of what I was saying. I don't condone HOW Lestat👨🏻‍🦰 EXPRESSED his anger, i.e., dragging the ever-loving-SH💩 out of Louis 🙅🏽‍♂️ . BUT ☝🏾 --- I do believe his anger in & of itself WAS JUSTIFIED. Louis pretty much neglected their relationship for a relationship with Claudia --- his child; a relationship he wouldn't even have experienced had it not been for Lestat turning her for Louis. And people say it was harsh for Lestat to tell her he never wanted her, but he's being HONEST 🤷🏾‍♂️! He made Claudia put of his love for Louis, but that doesn't mean his love for Louis translated onto Claudia by proximity. Louis never consulted Lestat about bringing a child into their lives & changing their dynamic. He just bust through the door 1 night, drops this burnt lil' girl on their bed 🛌, & pretty much emotionally bullies Lestat into turning her for him with the veiled threat being "If you don't save/TURN 🧛🏽‍♀️ her for me, every time we have an argument, I'm going to use that as emotional ammunition 💥🔫 to excuse away by bad behavior. And we get a taste of Louis' penchant for manipulation in the 2nd episode where he gets mad @ Lestat for calling him his "fledgling" & Lestat apologizes & Louis continues to pout until Lestat asks Louis what he can do to make it up to him & Louis tells Lestat he wants him to buy the Fairplay Club 🕍 for him & when Lestat expresses his misgivings out of TRUE CONCERN for Louis about the ramifications of such a decision, Louis gives him this stone-faced pout 😑 until Lestat gives in. And as we see in episode 4, Lestat was right & Louis rivals stab him in the back, leading to a string of events that get the club burned 🔥 down 🏚.
Lestat 👨🏻‍🦰 is somewhat impulsive but even in his impulses he has thought out the possible consequences of his actions a step or 5 ahead. Louis, on the other hand 😒 . . . acts NOW & doesn't think about the consequences UNTIL the consequences 👿 are knocking ✊🏾 on his front door 🚪.

I watched that ending 3 times, it was so good. A couple thoughts: It hasn't been established in this series that vamps can fly, and I think revealing it in this scene works great because we see so much of it from Claudia's perspective of a traumatized young daughter witnessing this horrible abuse, both the shock that comes with anyone experiencing horrible domestic abuse PLUS the supernatural vamped-up super strength aspect of it, both share this element of "I can't believe my eyes, can't believe this is really happening, can't believe he could be capable of this..." The actress did a great job emoting this feeling as she stumbled through the wreckage in shock at this situation that then escalates all the way to Lestat freakin' flying into the night sky, sucking the life out of Louis... Imagine the surreal terror from Claudia's perspective...
Lestat never wants to share any information that he doesn't have to, to retain the power advantage of having all the information, so of course he never would have told Louis or Claudia about the ability to fly. It, along with Lestat's capacity for cruelty against his own "family", were the double blows of shock and horror unleashed in this scene.
I don't think the flying has come up before and I don't think it will much again because my hunch is that Lestat could only do it in this scene because he was supercharged on Louis' vampire blood.

Wonder if in the next episode he will use restraints on Louis or maybe keep Louis beaten up so he can't leave.
Louis and Lestat were hot together but like I kept holding my breath for Lestat to finally show he never loved Luis and was here for his own ends. Not saying Lestat didn't have feelings for Louis but there were so many red flags that made me question him: Lestat is alone, he goes after someone he knows has no close family or friends, he gets close to Louis in like a month's time (which is short even by human standards), starts showering Louis with fun experiences like the Opera, he can freaking *read minds*, he kills Lily -apparently the only person Louis sort-of confides in, persuades Louis to agree to vampireism on the same day as Louis's late brother's funeral, and then he's the teacher in their relationship which is an unequal power dynamic no matter how you slice it. And Louis never seems to actually initiate any of their romance at all it's just Lestat....
And then there's the way he kills his victims. Unnecessary over the top brutality. I used to think that came with being a vampire and that Louis is just weird in his mostly gentle ways but now I see that as foreshadowing...
I wonder if it will be revealed that Lestat persuaded Louis's brother to jump off the roof? I wonder if Lestat is the reason Louis's
mother thought Louis was the devil? He can talk to people's minds...
This was long. Thanks for coming to my TedxTalk keep up the reviews.

Book Lestat never physically hurt Louis, and while toxic, was not abusive in this way. Unless they plan on doing a Rashomon sort of thing, which is kind of what they hinted at doing with the whole "journey of recollection" idea. If they don't plan on drastically departing from the books, which are essentially about Lestat, he's going to have a redemption arc at some point. He's got a lot more he has to apologize for later on.

@Elliot Alderson you have to understand these aren’t human being like you. They are vampires. You have to stop projecting your story on them and think of it from both lestat’s and Louis’s pov not just one. Lestat seem to be a very sensitive and childish person and has anxious attachment style. From what I see, it seem like he had some child hood trauma that hasn’t be revealed yet. I think he truly loves Louis but loves Louis in a way he was thought to love. I would point out that he did everything Louis wanted like buy him that building even though lestat knew it was an unwise choice and the consequences will come crashing down like it did. I’ve been watching this show closely and I realized how much Louis disregarded their relationship and would only come beg when he truly needed something but then I will blame that on his trauma and him trying to find a purpose in life since it is hard to adjust to his vampire life. Lestat is someone who wants love so bad that when Louis was giving him the attention, he turned to musician. But with the arrival of Claudia, it became worse, Louis was much focused on finding Claudia and didn’t give two shit about lestat which is kinda understandable. I get where lestat anger came from. I’m not justifying his action but Louis also had some false to this too. They both need to go to couple therapy and help themselves out.

This series has been a total rollercoaster and the idea of the this first season ending soon just makes me so anxious. But now that Louie has gotten a serious beat down. He has to heal and thats going to take more than just an overnight sleep in his coffin. In the next episode they will jump ahead in years because it will take some time for Louie to get better. So all this talk about going to Europe is off the table. Claudia will not leave without Louie and Lestat for now, has Louie and Claudia under his control. Lestat is an old ass vampire. He's extremely far removed from the trivial human natures and feelings. So, he could care less about the human experience, if it's not about having them for food. Louis is still a very young vampire, as is Claudia. So, he is still trying to be human-like and hold on to what bit of humanity he think he has left and treats Claudia as his daughter. Hence, his reason and excuse for not enjoying feeding on humans. Lestat is very possessive, jealous, and wants Louis all to himself, plus have his play things on the side. As we saw, he eliminated everyone closest to Louis in the early episodes: Lilly, Paul, his priests, that guy he linked up with in the woods, etc. His abusive nature should not be a surprise as he said he gets his anger issues from his father in episode 1. And we saw how he did that priest. Yes, it was difficult to watch Lestat dog walk Louis, but not a surprise. He only turned Claudia as a "present" and favor for Louis because Louis begged him, too. He saw that as a way to keep Louis "happy" with hopes of keeping him around. He knew that Louis didn't love him in the way that Lestat feels he should. Their relationship is nothing like "Bella and Edward" from the Twilight movies, and shouldn't be compared as such. I'm sure it's nothing like the books. But, I see where they're coming from with the writing of the script. Daniel, the writer, is extremely disrespectful and entitled. Definitely looking forward to seeing what Lestat has in store for him whenever he gets there, if he gets it like how dude got it at the end of the 1990s movie.

Just playing Devil's advocate here - but Lestat is a really tragic character and I do feel for him. He's lived 160 years of life feeling alone and abused from his past, then finally meets someone he falls deeply in love with. He thinks Louis is going to be his life companion, but all Louis does is keep pushing him away and rejecting his way of life. Then Louis forces him to create a daughter, which Lestat never even wanted in the first place. He sees Louis become obsessed with Claudia and love her more than he's ever loved Lestat, so of course there's going to be jealousy and resentment from Lestat. Then suddenly Claudia tries to steal Louis away - the one person Lestat has ever truly loved, and seemingly Louis is willing to leave all this behind and go with Claudia. All this time, and Louis has never even said "I love you" back to Lestat.

Look at what Louis was putting him through, and taunting him, neglecting him? None of it was okay, but the actors say it themselves...this relationship IS toxic, but they are end-game and do evolve and do better. I did find it interesting that if you turn on subtitles, you can hear Lestat trying to NOT fight, and trying to control his temper. Which, I find interesting. Keep in mind...these are vampires, NOT mortals. Louis is the most 'human' of them, and Lestat (especially earlier Lestat) IS brutal. Early 1900s man logic often was to 'fight it out' then it's all good, and well, vampire logic dictates Louis will be find and just needs a day to heal.

Maybe what I'm going to say doesn't make much sense to you, I believe that Louis is the one who controls Lestat, everything Lestat does, including what we watched in the last episode, is because he can't live without Louis, he can't say no, he can't let him go, we know all of Louis' attempts to leave him and the more he tries the more Lestat wants him. I'm not a fan of Louis, never have been but I understand why Lestat loves him, I'm worried about the writers' decision in the last episode and I'm worried that my beloved Lestat can't be forgiven by the show's audience, every decision that Louis makes. from now on it will be supported by what Lestat did to him, for me as a fan of Lestat I will be rooting for his happily ever after.

Not sure exactly but based from what I know of the books when an older vampire who hasn’t made a fledgling in a very long time period when they Do the fledgling is very powerful. And lestat’s maker was one such vampire And over years vampires may or may not develop different powers also. Also not sure if they are including the queen of the damned story in this or queen akasha. But lestat had a run in with her and drank her blood before Claudia and Louis in the books. So lestat has even more extra “ooof “ 🤣🤣🤣 maybe that’s why he can fly now. And maybe not before. If he couldn’t before.

    • @MekareP
      @MekareP Před rokem

Lestat could not fly at this time (in the books) it was an ability he received after Akasha woke up and fed him her blood in the 80's. This was during Queen of the Damned. Lestat was always powerful for one so young but not this much at this point. I have been rereading lately and the amount or time between fledglings does not matter. Simply the age of the maker, as they get stronger and more power over time. Louis is incredibly weak compared to any of Lestat's friends because he is reluctant to drink from humans even up to modern times and because he was made before Lestat was given Akasha's blood.

Everyone is goin in on Lestat for being g selfish, but overlook the fact he bought Louis a WHOLE nightclub at the very beginning of their relationship. No one is talking about Louis' selfishness. I mean, he brought Claudia home out-of-the-blue 1 night and asks Lestat to "turn" this girl whom he's never met just because Louis wants a daughter. Immortal demon of the night or not --- you don't just bring a child home to your spouse when you've NEVER discussed having children & forever change the dynamic of your relationship & think it's not going to rock (or is this case --- SINK ) the boat 🚢!! Louis NEVER took Lestat's feelings into consideration, just like he NEVER took Claudia's feelings & future into consideration when he had Lestat "make 🧛🏽‍♀️" her, FOREVER trapping her in the body of a 14yrs girl 👧🏽.
On TOP of that, Louis for the most part, neglects Lestat as his husband, emotionally --- AND their marriage bed 🛌 , & totally devotes himself to Claudia while Lestat got the leftovers. It was like having the "other woman/man" living in the house 🏠 with you!! At least Lestat had the decency to keep his mistress in a whole notha town. And think if Louis hadn't neglected Lestat for Claudia, Lestat would have naturally let go of Antoinette without even having to be asked. He only kept her around to make up for what Louis was withholding from him. As they say: "What you won't do --- someone else will 🤷🏾‍♂️."
But Louis was very selfish & somewhat narcissistic just as Lestat. It's just Lestat gets a bad rap because he had OVERT narcissistic QUALITIES, though I don't think he was a narcissist because he truly loved Louis & narcissist don't love 💔 ANYONE --- not even themselves. His flaws were obvious. Louis had more covert narcissistic qualities & his bad traits flew under-the-radar so nobody drug him for it. As in episode 6 where Claudia calls Lestat a dog 🐕 while they're sharing a park bench, Lestat replies (and to his merit): "But (I'm) an HONEST ☝🏾 'dog' 🐕." We don't see until the final episode just how dishonest Louis is until Daniel exposes him for all the lies of commission AND omission --- the very same things he forbad Lestat to keep doing when they were reconciling after their fight!! "Hypocrite" MUCH, LOUIS 🤨??

The asshole whines about no one loving him, but he’s the one doing everything possible to garner spite towards him. Louis and Claudia want to give him what he wants, but he does whatever is possible to foster an environment of loathing.
I think Lestat is just one of those people that thinks bc he’s in the position he’s in OVER Claudia and Louis, that he shouldn’t care about their feelings bc he financially supports them and buys or creates gifts for them thinking that should be enough. He thinks “I’m too good for this so I don’t care” but then you realize, he does care which is why he’s trying so hard. But, he’s also counterproductive bc obviously they’ll keep letting him come back no matter how much he says he’ll change.
Especially considering Claudia. She starts out loving him just as much as she does Louis, and he loved her too, but then she has to witness Louis constantly sad asf bc he’s cheating on him and then lying to his face about it. And unlike Louis, she isn’t dickmatized by Lestat bc he’s basically her dad. So she isn’t going to sit there and not hold him accountable. And knowing that her mind grows though her body gets no older, she’s kinda having that experience a lot of children from homes like theirs have.
They have to see the asshole parent that they once appreciated the approval and love from, reveal their nature and they no longer become appealing. It doesn’t feel worth it having a relationship with them when they are hurting your other parent.
Claudia doesn’t even know about Lestat basically hunting Louis down and FORCING him to become a vampire; something y’all conveniently forget about, but she caught on very early to the fact that Louis doesn’t have the level of commitment to Lestat like lestat does him, simply bc he wasn’t given a choice.
And that last little tidbit alone is why I also don’t get why people get upset at Louis manipulating Lestat to get what he wants. He’s using emotional leverage and hell he’s allowed to after all the bs Lestat did to him before he even turned him as well as after. It’s genuinely his only defense at Lestat’s controlling and abusive nature.

I was so mad at this scene because such violence from Lestat towards Louis never happened in the books and it felt like it was done for cheap shock value and took away something from Lestat's character, in fact the worst violence in Interview with the vampire is what Claudia and Louis did to Lestat to get away, not the other way around.
