    I actually really like this. It's a purer form of the sport and focuses on maintained agility and grace. It seems to be more like what the ancient Greeks would have done: bring groups of their finest men/soldiers together to show off their exemplary ability in advanced athletic skills.

      @@MegaUpstairs It's legit. One of the ice skating pairs in the winter Olympics from the 70's? had their medals taken because they participated in a professional show a few months before they competed.
      Some of them may have been from the circus or similar bot not many.

    • @werm3169
      @werm3169 Před 19 dny

      @@djm4854 Historically, to be eligible to compete in the Olympics, you may not be a professional athlete - you may not ever have accepted money or compensation for competing, or received money or compensation for advertising a product using your athleticism. You have to be doing the sport for the sake of the sport and making no money from it. Professional athletes who make money from their sport are ineligible to compete in the Olympics.
      Today, professional athletes are considered eligible in most sports, but some actually have different leagues for professionals and amateurs.

    I know that uniformity of physique and stature have been a long-standing expectation in many events and that the view is only shifting relatively recently, and many people still hold more specific preferences.
