    There is also another silly way of solving quadratics.
    The discriminant method
    xÂČ -x -2 = 0
    x = 1 ± sqrt[(-1)ÂČ - 4(1)(-2)]/2(1)
    x = 1 ± sqrt(9)/2
    x = 1 ± 3/2
    x = 1 + 3/2 = 2
    x = 1 - 3/2 = -1
    And now we can ofcourse factor it and flip the signs
    for the answers.
    (x + 1)(x - 2) = 0
    x = -1
    x = 2
    This is basically brute forcing the quadratic formula to produce factors but it is useful when you only have to find factors of hard quadratics.
    Solving using factoring
    xÂČ - x + 2 = 0
    (x + 1)(x - 2) = 0
    x = -1
    x = 2
    Using completing the square
    Don' t use it for this example the results might get a bit fractional.

    When possible, factoring is cool, but I prefer using the Singaporean method. It's easier for me to see that way. I also like Completing The Square, but when I do it, I use an area model. When the middle term is odd, I often multiply the whole equation by something first, so I won't have to deal with fractions. This approach is what Dr. James Tanton calls the Quadrus method. The Quadratic Formula is my least favorite. I find all the reduction annoying.
