    Excellent insight and advice! I changed my lacing method based on your recommendation, and it helped significantly. I ref 4-5 times a week and could not stand pain from lace bite. I am now able to ref an entire week without having to put my feet in epsom salt water after each shift. Thanks!

    Thank you SO much for this video! I've recently picked up roller skating and had been having issues with lace bite, which is very annoying as it cuts down on practice time. I switched to this lacing method, after practicing and my feet were already feeling sore, and IMMEDIATELY felt the difference! I was able to get right back up and practice more without the lace bite. AWESOME!

    Thank you for this video! The way you lace you skates or rollerblades makes a huge difference. This method seriously works for me. I was able to rollerblade much longer and pain free in my skates. Usually I would have to stop and pull my skate off from bad foot cramping.

    I recently switched from inside out to outside in because of this video. Here is my experience:
    It’s strange to get used to for lace up because your pulling from the inside, not the outside. This method does reduce lace bite, at least for me it did. I found that maybe it’s because I don’t have to tie my skates as tight as before. The first time I tied this way, I tied them as I normally do and got severe pain on the outside edge of my foot, and I mean SEVERE... I lasted 2 shifts. After loosening them, they still feel tight on my foot without making the actual skate very tight. I also tried the loop method... didn’t like it at all. When I loosened my skates, I couldn’t undo the loop due to my wax laces which made it more time consuming just trying to loosen them. I did however tie from the inside out on the last eyelet. I felt this was much much easier to tie off.
    Great video, great advice.

    Man this hurts so bad to find out now. I had no clue what lace bite was growing up. I just knew it hurt like he'll so I took the pads from my mom's bras, wore double socks and put on numbing cream. Nothing ever worked to the point I would be playing games screaming internally but just dealing with it. It got so bad my ankles stole up and I now gave permanent bruising on my ankles right in front. Hell my doctors didn't know what was wrong and suggested my body couldn't handle skating so I had to stop playing hockey. Finding out now it was just lace bite I feel dumb but oh well i guess it just wasn't meant to be.

    Only problem with having the lace start on the outside of the eyelet is that the probability of a cut lace goes way up. Also if ur getting lace bit change your skate, the laces shouldn't hurt in a properly fitting skate, or you are wearing the wrong size. I moved down half a size this season and saw massive increase in my agility and comfort as well. If you need to really tighten your ankle that much, its probably the skate and not the lace job. (PS go to a Bauer store if you have one close by. You can get your feet diagnosed for free and they tell you what model and size is the best fit. Then let you skate in them so you can get a good feel)

    if you are in the right skate model for your foot shape, lace bite should NEVER be an issue. Lace bite comes from boot depth issues, meaning the instep depth is too shallow for your foot. If the instep depth is high enough for your foot, you will not get lacebite regardless of how you lace them. There are over 20 different lines of skates on the market and realistically only 1 or 2 will fit each person's foot properly. Its just a matter of going to someone who knows what they are doing to look at the person's foot and tell them which line of skates is for them.

    • @StillAliveAndKicking_
      @StillAliveAndKicking_ Před 6 lety +2

      Raff Falco Not necessarily, you assume that there is a skate that fits a given foot, which is not always the case. Nexus, the deepest Bauer, did not lock my ankles. Vapor was too shallow. Supreme was just right, but I’ve had lace bite a few times over the last year.

      I don’t cause if I do then I don’t have enough room for the tongue to go forward and be able to do a full sit up and that’s how I test if it’s laces are not too tight so the skate around the foot is not so tight that it prevents from bending forward.

    Great video! If this doesn't work try using a high quality lace bite gel pad. We have created two new versions that help. We have one with a donut shaped gel pad that relieves the pressure on the injured spot. NHL teams love this one. We have another new one called the Soko Sleeve which was inspired by an NHL physical therapist. It has two gel strips that do the same thing as the donut. They run on either side of the painful area to relieve the tendons on the front of your foot from pressure. If this it doesn't work go to www.prosportprotection.com. Good luck everyone

      @prosportprotection5199 Před 5 lety +1

      @@RWT2777 This is true that rest is the best at reducing inflammation but if your skates and your foot do not work well together you might need another solution. Everyones foot/skate situation is very different as feet come in many different shapes and sizes. A very good solution is buying a different model of skate that is deeper and will therefor reduce the pressure on the tendons on the front of your foot. Not everyone has the money to buy new skates and many like the current feel of a skate they have been using for years. This is when many different options are available and suggested. I am not trying to trick anyone into using our products. NHL teams wouldn't buy from me if the players didn't like the product. The players get everything they want and use nothing they do not want. I have not had one return of a lace bite sleeve Ive sold in 3 years. This doesn't mean my products work for everyone but they do work for some. When a problem like this is so variable it is helpful to have multiple options as I know how uncomfortable it can be as I played professional hockey myself for 12 years. Just want to help if I can

      In my experience lace bite comes from crappy tongues (felt padding). My last skates had thick felt tongue pads. My new ones have the new and improved lace bite system from CCM. It sucks. It sucks so bad that I sewed new tongues in place.

    • @RWT2777
      @RWT2777 Před 5 lety

      I too have skated for over 30 years an never experienced lace bite - that is until I signed up for an adult hockey clinic/camp over 4 straight days of continuous on the ice/off the ice sessions throughout each day. I believe what finally gave me my case of lace bite was having wet & weak skates after numerous sessions in the same day. I did bring my skate/boot dryer and tried to dry between each session, but it only helped so much.
      It's definitely a link between how you lace your skates up and the support of the tongue. If it's super wet or the padding has thinned over the years, it's going to allow your laces to pull in against your tendon in your foot right where the top bend is/flexes. If you happen to tie your skates like most people tie sneakers (threading the opposite of what this guy shows here, which is going to the under/inside of each eyehole first), you're going to have a great chance of getting lace bite.
      What does lace bite feel like? Agony, through every flex of your foot as you take steps. Every degree of bending your foot as you walk is excruciating and putting it into your hockey skate is without question absolutely impossible. It takes MONTHS to heal from this and NO AMOUNT of extra padding you stuff between your top ankle tendon and that skate tongue will alleviate it. To get rid of it I had to stop skating for 2-3 months.
