During the 80’s if you told me people like Boy George and Marc Almond would one day be media darlings, I would have laughed in your face. Yet here we are.
So good to see Marc looking comfortable and relaxed. His voice has recovered really well. Used to go and see him and also Soft Cell. Loved his repartee with the audience. Must repeat how great it is to see him back. Saw him at Ipswich Regent when he was clearly ill at ease and his voice was yet to return properly. Think the little shows he did during the Covid crisis really helped him get his confidence back
Thankyou 💖 ❤️ 💓 💗 BBC for a interview of the best ever ❤️ 💕 Marc your amazing love your voice I could listen to you all day ❤️ fan43 years love celia xxxx
Soft cell had me hooked as a 18 year old. Never has a band resonated with me . They were the number one band. 2024 and I've said this for 42 year's. Torch 12 inch is up there with one of the greatest ever records in new wave or synthesised music . For me it's my all time favourite song but we have to put it in the gendre of music. You can't compare torch with 99 reds balloons for instance. Music shapes our lives , our souls ,even our future . Soft cell were the greatest in that field
My oldest brother was killed at the age of 22 on a motor cycle in London. Therefore, I was truly devastated when Marc came so close to the same end. And, here we are twenty years later able to celebrate and enjoy perhaps the most prolific British artist ever!
@@michaelshepherd885 what’s so funny! Marc across various guises has released over 50 albums. I am not sure if there is a British singer/songwriter who can beat that.
Thanks for sharing your video 🙏 I love Marc Almond so much ❤ Always happy to hear his songs. So greatfull for all the Joy and Creativity he gave us, with Dave Ball also, during all this years ❤🎶🎵🎼🎶🕺💃 For instance, singing Jacques Brel' songs or adapt Charles Aznavour' song is a great challenge : it shows that Marc is open-minded and can sing everything. Bravo 👌🎶❤️
Marc Almond comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke who just loves music. A refreshing change from a lot of popstars today who are obsessed with image and celebrity.
Marc/Soft Cell songs were the backdrop to my teens. As my avatar shows, i'm a synth guy, and playing their songs is a passion of mine. There will never be their kind of music again. Their first album, non-stop erotic cabaret, is a journey into a world, you wouldn't believe songs could be written about. Songs about living in a bed-sit (small apartment/rented room). It was a magical time back then. Always a pleasure to see and hear Marc.
I wish he would release what was the B side of the single Say hello wave goodbye. It was an instrumental version where a saxophone done the Marc’s vocal. I loved that version. This is one of my favourite soft cell songs.
Saw him in Leeds Uni canteen wearing a one piece suit and a cigarette in a long holder. That'll have been around 77/8. Certainly caught your eye in those days. 😂
It is weird. Some 40 years ago I couldn't imagine how guys like Marc Almond would look like when they're old. It's still weird seeing these guys getting older. The older Marc gets, the more he resembles Mr. Spock in my opinion.
Either in Soft Cell or within his own solo output, Marc has been one of the best & most talented male vocalists the UK has ever had the pleasure of knowing. His songwriting skills are totally off the scale & he has a Midus touch when it comes to covering a song & then making it his own. It's good to see him so upbeat at such an early hour on the BBC. The new album is another outstanding production & nothing's ever going to slow him down. He should have his own Saturday night show on the BBC by now in my opinion & when will Glastonbury eventually invite him & Dave down to the farm for a very long overdue gig?
Old music sensations from the late 70s and early 80s never really sell their new music tbh. Majority of people like their stuff from those decades for a reason
To his immense credit, Almond was never one to make the same album twice. All of his records were adventurous, if not always completely accessible. And not to put too fine a point on it, but 1986's "The Stars We Are" certainly stands out as his finest work. It really gives the listener a great deal of insight into Almond's persona. Highly recommended.
Once in Copenhagen in Denmark I was at a concert with Soft Sell, one of the best concert ever experienced, Marc gave such a perfect performance but the the danish audience was so quiet and passive and me and my wife was almost the only one dancing and singing around and we were thinking, has our danish people went to a wrong concert cause they were so ungrateful and passive. Maybe it's just the danish way in general, they don't freak out a lot, but Soft Cell/Marc Almond is absoluely one of the most important band/singer I have ever experienced.
The Girl With The Patent Leather Face. Seedy Films, Numbers, Sex Dwarf - Early Soft Cell were delightfully sleezy. I adored them. Great to see Marc looking so good and still being relevant.
Marc Almond & the stomach pump......... a great story, it's included in a book called "Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy." This is a book and not to be confused with a Who album of the same name. Kinda strange that it's been soooooo long a career 😮, personally l never enjoyed " something got a hold of my heart " , just another Cover Version " , but " Bedsit Land " really resonates to me , as back then in the 80's , that was most people's first experience of having a home away from their parents, and l guess that in a way, we all made the most of our newfound freedom, and kinda liked a similar way 🤫 . .
I ALWAYS had 'Non Stop Erotic Cabaret' playing in my casette player of my VW Beetle back in 86. I had spent two weeks attempting to woo Melanie White. Then one night, sensing the moment was right, just before she stepped out of my car as asked: "Melanie, what you say if I asked you out?" She said “I would laugh of course!” Gutted and crestfallen I asked "Why?" She said, "Because you are gay of course!" She then kissed me on the cheek and walked to her front step. Over the next week I asked around, and as it turned out EVERYONE thought I was gay because of THAT casette! 😂👍❤️🇬🇧 EDIT: Kissed me on the cheek not ‘chick’. There was NOT a chicken in the car.
What a lovely guy always loved him but still so humble
Marc is an absolute treasure. It's always a joy to see him being interviewed.
Marc Almond has a fantastic body of work to be proud of. A real artist.

As much as I like the sax.. Marc's attitude is the real hook... love it.
Must add it to my recent playlist of resistance.

The VISIT is fantastic and features Marc Bolan's voice.
Absolutely loved that interview, so modest but such a sense of humour.
Very talented man……what a voice! Great catalogue of work😎🎶🙏
I met him at an after show in Manchester UK in 1999. Charming.😃👍
The original singer of Tainted Love is Gloria Jones (1964)
Mark Bolans partner
Thank you, was scratching my head on that , as it's the song I knew and re listened to by Mr Almond
I recognised him , I was at kitson College in Leeds while he was also there wearing all black as always
She was also the driver of the car in which Bolan died, not so fun fact.
I saw him at Chillfest just over a week ago.
Saw Soft Cell last night, what a voice 🤩
In fairness, he has one of most fantastic and recognisable voices. Seems like a very nice guy too.
Not surprised they didn't show the original Tainted Love video! Been a massive fan since Memorabilia. That makes me feel old!
