Best instructions on knife making I have found on youtube. Thanks Trollsky.
Franklin Jeffers yes i agree very helpful
I'm a 11 year old blade worker no Forge but I do grind blades and files and enjoy it thanks trollsky
Ben Duckett
This guy is fucking awesome. Any guy who names his Grinder Bukakke is ok in my book.
I would guess he named it that because its hitting that bitch from every angle. XD
It shoots all over his face for an hour at a time... I think you have it backwards, Mighty.
7 years ago I watched this video with amazement. Today I have a knife shop of my own! Thank you sir!
Thanks too !
Thank you for taking the time to demo and create these wonderful videos. They are concise and easy to understand. Many of us appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
I make bevel before heating. Don't like to work with hard steel
Ondrej Sabol it matters, hard steel throws fish hooks. its a real bitch, and still slower than grinding soft steel with the same belt. i hate picking those fuckers out of my socks.

I don't have a belt grinder, but I do have a angel grinder and a stationary grinding wheel (that is roughly 5-6 in or 12-15.5 cm). How should I go about making a bevel?
You probably have to answer this all the time; however, do you sell your knives?
Tcamp I have tried and tried brother. He doesn't really make knives for a living, just shares knowledge. He has a love for the art of crafting metal into purpose, like so many of our ancestors did. I have begun building my own little shop to make knives for myself in this same tradition (High carbon steel and only wood, antler or bone for handles). I know where he is coming from because I love to shape and form beautiful things from chunks of hard, cold inanimate objects. It really makes you feel alive once you get into it. Just imagine if his line of knives blew up and became mainstream. He would become another sell-out like Ken Onion or Gil Hibben (who had a shop 20 mins. from my house). This guy does it for the love of the art, not for fame or fortune. That is why I am proud to watch and learn and try my hand at my own unique style of knife making.
Thanks for demonstrating those grinding techniques! Awesome video!
I've seen so many complicated jig builds out of stock steel, aluminum and the like. I made one out of aluminum angle and it worked okay, but this build was by far the best. The stable support of the block of wood made all the difference and took out a ton of possible things that could go wrong. Great vid!
what dimensions did you use for the wood block? what worked best for you?
Thank you Trollskyy for posting this. I have a shedload of gear ice put together for making Damascus and knives and I stalled completely because I was having troubles getting blades bevelled and I think you just solved that for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you and thank you some more. Keep making your knife making clips, you rock!!!
That was excellent! Simplicity and quality.
Man, I have learned so much from your videos! I just started on my first knife and I can't wait to get it finished!
Watching you making knives are the most relaxing videos on the internet. Love this.
Started using your jig and what a difference it makes grinding the bevel. Thank you for taking the time to make the video and putting it out for others to view
You are my most favorite person on Earth!! You rock Dude!!!
wow that was a really nice trick with 4mm bit to scratch centre line
ma894 u can also just use a drillbit the same thickness as ur blade, I recommend wood bits due to the sharp point
The bevel jig was absolute genius and so simple. I had to make one and try it out on an old flat bar offcut I had. It works perfectly. Great job.
Dzięki za kapitalne filmiki. Nawet nie wiedziałem że w Polsce są tacy goście jak Ty ... Brawo
Thank you comrade for the very educational videos!
Thank you Sir. Very educational , informative video, and well made video. Knife looks very good as well. Thank you for showing the layout of the grinding center. I have never seen that before. Excellent.
Trollsky, two things: #1. Your videos are great. Thank you for making them, and I enjoy them very much. #2. Keep pronouncing the word "grind" as "greend", not "grynd". It is wrong, but it sounds better.
kommando zed hahaha ok, I will :)
Trollskyy dont listen to him. sounds too cool the way you say it
Will I think you misread me. I agree with you, read again!
I always appreciate when people who don't speak English as their first language will speak English for my benefit. I enjoy the idiosyncrasies of the accents, too.
Another point, I watched a few other knife grinding videos and wondered by the heck people were free-handing their grinding. A simple jig like this makes so much sense.
km mandolins zed
That was hands down the best knife bevel I have ever seen. The jig was so clever. You're a craftsman. Thank you. 👍👍
thanks mate , And please try to say Grind in my launguage - Szlifować :)
Sir Thank you for sharing all your Knowledge with us. Your video's are easy to understand and you show how to make knives with simple tools that are affordable to those just starting out.I hope to be able to repay you some how in the near future.
After a whole day of hard work I take a glass of wiśniówka and relax myself while watching your work. I do mechanics as my passion (some metal crafting too) however after a really difficult day I do not do any work in a workshop ( I would cut my fingers off) I just sit and relax while watching your videos that come with very good music. Thank you very much.
Holy cow, thats great. Good job Igor
Coming from a lab, I use latex gloves all the time. Using them near a heat source such as flying metal sparks is not something I would do.
Latex is an organic polymer. If it catches fire, it melts while burning. And molten Latex is sticky. So if something goes wrong, you have burning, sticky, rubbery glue on your hands. Gloves you can pull off in an emergency. Glue you cannot pull off.
There are water-proof working gloves made of non-flammable materials out thre.
I start around 60, finish around 150-220 and after that hand sanding up to 500
Howzit Trollsky? I hope you're doing well mate. Just wanted to let you know you've been incredibly helpful to me and I'm sure to many other people in both showing us your methods but also with motivation. You're constantly making great knives and jigs and all sorts of kit and I'm bloody grateful. You've got a lot to be proud of mate, keep it up
I started to watch your videos yesterday and I think they are great, I always wanted to start making knifes but it's very difficult to find a teacher, you helped me a lot and I think I will start soon. You are a great knifemaker and artist that is why you are confident to teach others. Many many thanks from Greece.
Am i the only one that noticed "Bukkake" on his grinder.
No :D
no :)
no, you are not the only one :D :D :D
Came to say the same. 5 years later
XD :D
Great videos thank you. Where are you from, you have a cool accent.
+Luke Simons Dollars to donuts says he's Polish.
Deifnetly an Easter Slavic accent. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, or Polish. But the way I know he's Polish is from the writing on his apron.
You are one of the most serious, charismatic and great teacher of this matter I have ever met !!
Best video on bevels I have seen. Very clear and concise!
Что за акцент?
could you please write it in Englsih ?:)
***** Yep. It's butthurt.jpg
tell me someone else sees the word bukake on his belt grinder
I see it too..
LMAO...looks like he gets his "grind" on off camera too!!
That jig is fantastic! Brilliantly simple, thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Thank you for making a video that actually shows the motion of the blade and jig across the belt! A great many videos on grinding leave this as given, but it was very hard for me to grasp.
Hi Trollskyy, I have a question: when you grind the bevel, do you grind all the way to the center line or do you leave a little bit to grind off after heat treat? I was under the impression that if you grind all the way to your center line, this thinner edge may warp during heat treat and tempering.
Thanks very much for your videos, you are a great help to someone just starting out making knives!
Greetings from Germany
hello there. I am leaving 1mm of steel on the cutting edge and make a final cutting edge after heat treating
Thank you so much for a quick reply!
May I ask what type of oil you use to quench the knives?
Thanks!
C Taner
just a simple sunflower oil. smells great :)
Trollskyy So you scratch the "grinding-line" in your painted metal, but while grinding, you stop 0,5mm from the line one each side? Sorry for my english, I have holidays and my brain relaxes too ;)
C Taner hello there. I am leaving 1mm of steel on the cutting edge and make a final cutting edge after heat treating
"twój stary" widac ze Polska!!!! xD
Thanks for taking time to show us that ! great job !
This video was incredible! I had no idea how the bevel was made!
Thanks for making this, first because it really helped me. Second, it takes courage to make a video in your second language and post it for the whole world to analyze and criticize.
How do you know how big to make the nut for bolt on jig
Absolutely a brilliant jig.
This guy is so sincere and awesome. Love it.
I keep my knife in my pocket :) Don't worry :)
Just two small questions.. Does your belt grinder say "bukkake" on it? Also, why does your belt grinder say "bukkake" on it?
Noticed that myself. Laughed like an insane man in my office.....People stared.
It's because there are a lot of sparks shooting down.
Tyson Boren
I saw that too and shifted my vision around to see if those letters are correct. maybe it is a language word they use that we also use but with different meanings. It amused me and if someone saw that word and know its meaning then they are a pervert. Im one.
@@user-ss2rd8du6w It is just Japanese for " to splash water " - "don't forget to cool it down" is what I am thinking he means - the western is an anti-euphemism and has perverted it's meaning. I do not pretend to know why he put it there, but from his accent, I would not believe he is western.
I just love watching your videos Trollsky. I find your way of filming, working, designing and teaching to be truly excellent for me. Thank you.
This is so ingeniously simple. Really helpful, thanks a lot.
Hi Trollsky, which grit size are you using with the belt sander when you grind bevels like that? Thanks!
+Carmille Marsten I prefer grit 60
+Trollskyy Thanks! I tried grit 120 and now I see why it required so much time... :)
+Carmille Marsten oh my :) ald also 120 produces a lot more heat ... :)
+Trollskyy Yes, in fact I burnt and broken the point of the blade, even if I was cooling in water oftenly :(
I'll retry with 60 as soon as I'll have two days free for knife making ;)
+Carmille Marsten good luck, remember, patience and dedication and your knife will be outstanding :)
I think you can learn more about it on woodprix website.
@Vadym Aliyev I'm glad you like it Vadym
Great idea for making the bevels. Looks very professional.
Trollskyy is the man!!!
Fajny napis "Twój stary" xD
ale na szlifierce bukkake jest lepsze
Wait, is the translation, "but grinding is better bukkake?"
@@smellyshirley No.
Po napisie skapnąłem się że swój xd
Gaspar Adrii Leonardo de Krause
też tak patrze, w pierwszej chwili myślałem że może kumpel z pracy se jaja zrobił i mu napisał :-D ... a to swój chłop !
Master Trollskyy, thank you for your kindness! It takes a special character to share this valuable information with the rest of the world. I am looking forward to your next video if you also want to show us your method of creating a bevel with hand tools. Your home made belt sander is interesting. Anyway, greetings from Portland, Oregon, US!
Trollskyy, you are a freaking genius and gentleman for sharing this info. Thanks!
Why does his belt sander say bukkake...
+Cena Senpai LOL, just noticed that
+Cena Senpai I thought I made that word up and I saw it on his sander...wow I must be some other language in another timezone once or something!
I, too, have never heard of bukkake before. I am wholly unfamiliar with the term.
Look it up
Cena Senpai
Gonna have to wait until Im at work, Im sure that'll be ok.
Twój stary XD hhahaha
AntySyjon A widziałeś co pisze na szlifierce ? Bukkake ;d
