  • Using the built in steering wheel control interfaces saves you heaps of money and its really easy to use. This is how to wire the factory harness to suit older model Toyota vehicles. Using the Kenwood DDX917WS Toyota Unit here.

    Thanks alot! This also worked for my Sony stereo that I put into my 2008 Mazda MX-5. I rewired an old 3.5 mm audio jack to those contacts and it worked. Also I didn't have pins for the plug, but improvised with striped wire that I put some solder on for stability, pushed through and fixed with hot glue. I mean, if it's stupid and works, it's not stupid :D

      Hello, Frozen! so if I have the 3.5 jack with two wires only, do I need to buy any module? I'm thinking to connect the ground from the 28 pin connector to ground of the car. I already have located the 3 wires from SWC

      @frozenwoodfrog Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, yes, that should work without any box, if you can freely program the SWC in your radio.
      In many cases the signal is just different resistance values.
      Best to find the wiring diagram for your car and the SWC plug for your radio brand. I believe the position of signals on the 3.5 mm plug can be different.
      At least worth a try before you get a special box for it.

    I have DMX5020S Kenwood, installing into 4th gen 4Runner. I do have the blue wire/yellow stripe (steering remote) coming off the Kenwood deck. I also have the diagram that shows factory location of wires. However, if the goal here is to 'direct wire' into the factory wiring, what is the 3.5mm conversion for? I have nowhere to plug that in. Any ideas?

    Hello guys! I have jdm Toyota and Kenwood multimedia. I find this 20 pin connector with these three wires. Connect with jack and plug in the my mulimedia. And remote function doesn’t work. But, the multimedia has 1 interesting wire - remote cont (steering wheel remote input, light blue with yellow stripe). Do you know what is it? With which wire I must connect him? Thanks.

    Hey mate, love the video. I have a JVC KWM740BT which comes with the 3.5mm jack to 3 loose wires for steering wheel control.
    Do you have details on what wires these go to in the cars harness for a 2006 Yaris?
    The JVC unit also has a blue wire with yellow trace with a tag on it for steering wheel control. Is this just discarded as I’ll be using the 3.5mm jack instead?

      Hey mate I have the same unit, how did you go, does it have the control unit inbuilt or did you have to buy a controller for it.

    • @sonny5741
      @sonny5741 Před 5 lety +4

      If anybody comes across this from Google -
      JVC KW-M740BT does have in built steering wheel remote control decoder that you connect with the small aux style cable (included in the box) JVC / Kenwood have a reference sheet with what pins to use and if steering wheel control options is greyed out in settings you need to connect the park brake sensor wire and have it on (or bypass it by connecting park brake wire to ground). ref. au.jvc.com/car/av_receivers/pdf/Direct_OEM_Steering_Remote.pdf
