The two best players in the world, who had been playing on different sides of the fence, debates raging for years about who was the best and they meet in a World Championship final and it goes all the way to the very last leg. It’s fairytale stuff that will never be beaten.
Not much of debate, Taylor smashed him in a match 21-10 when they were both champs of different organizations. And there head to head ended 61-18 to Taylor. that is some record.
@@SuperChalkster Well it actually was a debate in the late 90s and early 2000s And Barney got the better of it in the first year of the PDC. Then Taylor fully took over.
@@mccann82 It was hyped to be a rivalry to increse the popularity of darts, it defo worked, Barney was a great player and was Taylors closest peer in ability. But like you said after the Uk Open and Worlds Phil proved who the real king of darts was. 61-18 isnt even close is it. lol
@@SuperChalkster I chatted to a lot of Dutch darts fans back then. They were convinced Barney was better (obviously ha) but Taylor raised his game when Barney challenged him. Darts was put in a better place for that “rivalry”
@@SuperChalkster tbf rvb was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 09 and was probably suffering in 08. As a type one myself ik the struggle with eyesight always changing and both the effect on mental and physical well being. It crippled him. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying rvb could've been 10 to 15 times world champ like taylor but it took many titles away from him

This game was how I first got into darts, I vividly remember being like 10 years old and my dad letting me stay up late to watch the end of the game, and the drama that ensued has had me hooked on darts since, great memories

Barney's second turn in the last leg, at 401, after Taylors opening 180, is single best three darts throw at the ockey in the history of the game. Mind bending, under that pressure, in that final, after 12 sets, against the best player of all time. We will probably never see the likes of that again.

Highlight and turning point of the match for me
I didn't really watch darts, but as a Dutchman myself I didn't miss out on this match as a kid.
The 170 finish of Barney with the applause from Taylor was special. That was probably the key moment of the match.
The best Match ever. So many up and downs . It got everything.

I'd say the RVB vs MVG Semi-Final in 2017 was better. The 6-2 score doesn't do justice to the quality of darts both played. MVG average 114, RVB average 109. Over 50 140+ between them. Nearly 30, 180s. Both men with over 50% check out success (MVG 51%, RVB 68%). Quite simply a stunning game of darts.

Whilst i expected taylor to still be the top guy i thought barney would beat him alot more, taylor ended up owning barney for quite a few years, but credit to barney he was great in this match.

This was close as hell....but the van Gerwen - van Barneveld world championship semifinal in 2017 was the best for me if you look at averages....van Gerwen about 114 and van Barneveld (losing) 109.

I'm new to darts. Why is the board all cracked to shit? I have a wal mart board that came like that but I wouldn't expect it on this level. About to get a real board here in a couple weeks but the narwhal got the job done!! I'm hooked.

16:30 those stats aren't the best. As what you wanna know really is 1 big treble, 2 big treble and 3 big treble scoring visits, it shows it as Taylor hits a 134 with 2 treble 19s, and obviously that just counts as 100+. Doesn't really take switching into account
