There's debates in snooker on who is the greatest of all time between Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan but there's no doubt with his records of 16 world championships. 16 world matchplay titles. All the other titles he has won (over 200) & all the 9 darters That Phil Taylor will always be the greatest ever whoever lived... Those records will never be beat...
There is a difference between being the best in your own time and being the best of all time. It's interesting to speculate what would have happened if Van Gerwen would have been born 25 years earlier , but obviously, we will never know.
Both of these replies are immaculate. We do know what to expect when Phil Taylor was winning titles only a few years ago and beating the likes of Michael Van Gerwin who was at the peak of his game.
You seriously can not compare a 3 times world champion with a 16 times world and matchplay champion. Taylor also has the better head to head against MVG by a long way MVG only really started to beat Taylor towards the end of his career as Taylor started to decline. The biggest most pressurised match of darts in the world is the world final. its the one every player wants to win even MVG said he would swap all his titles over the year to win the worlds. Who has the highest average in a world final which I doubt will ever be beaten? that's right its Taylor. Much harder to set record averages in long format matches. And I genuinely believe a prime age Taylor could have raised the bar even further had he needed to. IMY top 5 players ever would be Taylor Barney Bristow MVG Lowe
That is a strong point of view. I could counter that with saying that MVG at his best would totally destroy Taylor at his best. However, I tend to agree with you that Taylor -in his prime - could have raised the bar even further had he needed to. Anyway , we will never know.
Love watching the way he throws the darts, land in a graceful way , also the amount of times you see him take treble 19 instead of risk squeezing another t20 is unreal
It’s amazing how much the game has changed. Taylor shooting 122 with his opponent on an out hits T18, T18 to leave D7 which is obviously the correct shot and the announcer says “what an unusual way to go”.
@@commentarywithconnor i meant if he hit the 1 and bust after 2 t20s or something that would be a weird way to go but i didn't explain it that well lol
Legend , l met him and he couldn't have been more a gentleman.Remember you need to have a load of arrogance to be number one ! I suppose it's when you meet the man and what you ask him :)
I've read comments about Gregory, Barney, Wilson &!even John Lowe but you cannot disagree about Taylor being the best ever, darts simply wouldn't be where it is now without Phil
What I admired most about Phil was his work ethic to be the best and stay at the top. Total tunnel vision. I remember he said in an interview years ago that the reason he kept winning was because he worked harder than all the other players. He practiced more. He wanted it more. He was completely driven. Some could argue that there weren't as many top class players around in Phil's prime as now, but he could only play against and beat what was out there. Nobody will ever get near 16 world titles because nobody in the modern game will be able to dominate for the amount of time required now to even get near that total.
What makes him so special is that darts is very accessible. It's incredibly hard (or impossible) to dominate like Taylor in sports which are so accessible. It's not like being the best Dressage rider in the World, because hardly anyone owns a suitable Dressage horse. Just owning a World class horse gets you into an elite group. Taylor is the best ever, from a pool of millions of players, from thousands of pub teams. I played every day at lunch time and, at 60, I have my own dart board still. I must have thrown a million darts in 50 years and I'm yet to hit a 180 (I've done a Robin Hood twice ... but that 3rd dart doesn't count...!!) He should be OBE because I can't think of a more successful, or dominant, British sportsman. I guess it's because it doesn't involve horses.
I bet everybody watching this video will be long dead before two nine-darters are thrown in the same match again. I doubt it'll ever happen again to be honest. Wonderful stuff!
he had 16 perfect darts in this match, but the two 9 darters were not back to back, so no mate not 25 perfect darts, after the 2nd 9 darter he did hit another 7 perfect darts so managed 16 perfect darts, god knows why the 11 perfect darts was part of the video at the start.
that is not his first world title, and why is the 154 shot part of the 11 perfect darts? when he has hit 16 perfect darts in the game that he hit the two 9 darters in. bit of a bull shit top 5 really.
How can you say 2nd best when their own head to head is 34-26 Taylor?? This is Taylor on the back end of his career as well.. So had they both met in their prime, I'd imagine the score would be even more devastating. Phil Taylor is and will always be the goat, the face of darts and the player who made darts what it is today.
greatest player we'll ever see absolute legend
Dart Aholic MVG will get there
Doubt it legit but pity we didn't get to see both in their prime going head to head every game would have been a classic
@@YourNewsCN incorrect even price is better than him right now and wrights on the same level as him

*double TWELVE!*
Two 9 darters in one match is just very, very special. I doubt there will be another darts player as great as Phil Taylor
the mental thing is that he almost got a 3rd in the very next leg missing the 8th dart. Just incredible
2 9-darters and a 10-darter... dude was unreal when dialed in.
Price got two in the same night though

I love how you hear the mic shaking after Taylor's second nine darter, then Sid shouts "DAVE YOU'LL HAVE TO SAY IT! SAY IT! COS I'M GOBSMACKED!!!"
I know they almost needed a camera in the booth to get Sid's Reaction after his second nine darter RIP Sid
Been a privilege watching you over the years.. Still the greatest in my eyes, always will be.

The legend that is Phil Taylor
I love the look on JW's face at 13:58... like "holy crap dude, that's pretty spectacular. WTF am I supposed to do against that?"
I'm done watching darts since the man gave it up.
Darts as got the greatest crowd in any sports, got goose bump when Phil came out at the beginning

At 13:58 James Wade's face says it all - he's impressed as heck but probably thinking "you SOB!".
I can watch this over and over because of the commentary
Probably will be remembered as the Goat 🐐
And still a banger of an entrance theme btw. It has held up well from the early 90s.
What an amazing athlete
Never before today have i watched a moment of competitive darts.
What have i been doing with my life.

Feels bad to James Wade. He is the most victimized by 9-dart finish ever lol

Love how you didn't even capitalise it. Small 's' lol.

Basically Phil Taylor is the Ric Flair of darts
I hope people relise there will never be a better darts player than Phil the power the Taylor

25 perfect darts
Almous 3x 9 darter ;-)
was almost 3 x 9 darter but it was not 25 perfect darts.

Harrington looked like he was on his way to a job interview after the match
He lives on my street
To all Phil’s fans, let’s not forget why his MBE was annulled.
He might be making a comeback
I thought his first world title win was in 1990? Not 95?
Peaky Fuckin Blinders was 90 in the bdo
Phil Taylor. World Class Sports man. Best in the Business. Tony Amore Classical Pianist and Artist From Stoke on Trent. U .K.
Poor Wade. He was good, but Phil flexed on him every time.

only a top 5. Phil has 100 of moments

NONE BETTER!!!!!
Only five.... ❤️ Thiers alot more
How did he get that 132 against Wade?
Someone asked me if I was a good darts player. I said, “I don’t know. I’ve never played.”
It should of been top 6 greatest moments. What about the exhibition night in 1999 in Fife Scotland
number 5 wasn't 11 perfekt darts because at 224 he could go for 174 what would left 50. so the 224 where able to do with 4 darts
Mvg retires in 2020
Technically not his first world championship as he won 2 in bdo before this
Sid Wadell the true legend
hi
My dad met phill
my dads mate met phil
Taylors first world title was against Eric Bristow. Sky didn't invent Darts.
Not Taylor's first world title
Old rocker the taxi driver beat him in station road club.
Give the man two darts and he would beat most.
*g*
No knighthood though sadly
The best man ever
This isn't even his first PDC world title. That was 1994 vs Priestley and this Harrington final was 1995.
Yep my mistake
that is not his first world title, and why is the 154 shot part of the 11 perfect darts? when he has hit 16 perfect darts in the game that he hit the two 9 darters in. bit of a bull shit top 5 really.
I liked Phil but he cud be a bit of a prick at times
Yeah Its too bad he is such a nob!!
the second best player of all time. played against weak players. higher level of play from MVg has been mastered and displayed
Now there's a pantload!
bro mvg often doesnt perform too good vs weaker players since its just not necessary to beat them
