  • I n the last several decades, eyewitness testimony has come under greater scrutiny. Since 1989, some 329 people have been exonerated based on DNA tests, according to the Innocence Project, a nonprofit legal organization. Each of the wrongfully convicted spent an average of 16 years in prison, and 75% of them were put away largely on the basis of eyewitness testimony.

I only got 5, but didn't write down sleep. Does that make me a good witness or just poor memorizer?

Gerome Fournier if a DNA test could prove you're innocent then you can't be convicted legally. Guilt must be irrefutable to be convicted.
Which means no new evidence would make a difference

Hmm interesting. I wrote 10, but I didn't write sleep. But when you said there was sleep, I had second thoughts.. then I believed there was sleep and just forgot to write it. But actually there wasn't and my memory still tells me that there was sleep.

      Bed , Awake, Blanket ,Doze,Yawn,Tired,Snore

    I wrote 10 of them.
9 were right, but I mistook rest for sleep.
I really knew he said something in an order like, go to bed, rest, than wake up tired like everyday. But I couldn't remember what was the word. Was it lay down, sleep? I couldn't remember so I put sleep becouse it was the first thing that came into my mind. Still, I got many right.
9 out of 15 is not bad actually.

Irrelevant test, an eyewitness does not memorize a string of separate words. If they're going to recall something someone said, they might use their own words to convey what was said, but the overall meaning remains similar. I don't need to recall what words were in this video to describe that "the guy in the video told us to try to memorize a sequence of words, and they all involved the topic of sleep, such as sleep, bed, dream, etc."
Give the mind something to munch on, not something that is experientially meaningless, as a sequence of words related by topic but semantically separate.

"The innocence project" mostly relies on reopening ancient cases and unfortunately but unsurprisingly being unable to locate many of the key witnesses several decades after the event.
    Cringe.
If it matters, I got 15/15. So I did not fall for the fake word.
I *was* supposed to write it all down, right? The video *said* to write it down. My handwriting isn't great, looks like I wrote "Drean" and "blankel" but nothing looks anything like "sleep". I don't mean to brag, in my anonymous youtube comment, but I cannot understand how anyone gets significantly less than 100% if they're writing the words down as he says them. Which feels like cheating, but he did say "if you're ready, and you have a pen", so I assume writing the words down as he said them was *not* cheating.

Bed, rest, awake, dream, tired, wake, snooze, blanket, doze, -, yawn, drowsy
i never thought about sleep cause in my mind i was connecting the words with a story when he read, like 'oh there's a BED, and she REST on it then AWAKE, she had a DREAM and TIRED after. She WAKE and SNOOZE (in my mind SNOOZE was SNEEZE) then i wipe my nose with BLANKET, ewh.. Why i think that.. How many DOZE she had.. Wait, what?' Then from there i kinda blank.
