    Heh, I picked up another little trick for my self watching your video. I have three outboards. a 4 hp Johnson 2 stroke, a 9.9 fuel injected Suzuki, and a 9.8 Tohatsu.
    I just a beginner with repairs on outboards. But recently I replaced the impeller and housing for the water pump on the 2 stroke. When I went to put the drive shaft and lower unit back together I had some trouble getting the splines on the upper part of the drive shaft to mate with the gear box on the lower end of the engine. Now that I see what you do I can’t wait to try this trick you introduced me to. “Put the lower unit into reverse before installing...”. That way you can manipulate the splines to mate. That was very cool. Thanks again...

      @jdcitizen Před rokem

      @@afabre93 Look at the direction the fins are (memoried) or note the direction the the pump impeller shaft rotates when , while the lower end is in gear (forward or reverse) turn the flywheel by hand or with the pull cord and see which way the "drive rod" (that the water impeller is seated on) turns. Be sure to turn the drive shaft in the same direction it was turning when the starter rope was pulled a bit or by turning the prop (shifted into reverse) a bit while fitting the lower unit up into the upper engine housing to get the impeller "fins" sitting in the correct direction.

    You did a great job but I have to point out a couple of important errors. It is Very Important to rotate the drive shaft in the "correct direction" while replacing on the housing @ 6:27 or you will destroy your new impeller. Also, Do Not use petroleum-based grease on Rubber Parts @ 7:08 as it will break down rubber over time - use Silicone Grease on Rubber parts. Small details - what Make/Year/Hp of outboard? How did you get to the shift linkage?

I suppose that these numbers define the sequence that I should follow in operating the bolts. But I could not find any answer to the question " should I follow the sequence 1-2-3-4 in loosening or tightening the bolts ? " I appreciate your advise. Thanks

Anyway, I put in forward and reverse only for a moment and shut her off. Now she is not starting at all. Not even idle for a second just barely after letting sit over night did I get a little smoke come out 1st pull and a attemp to start like the sound the 3rd pull now nothing is happening again. Any tips?

    NOTICE : When removing the water pump housing, remove the screws completely, then pull it up.
    If the impeller is a little tight and is pulled out while the screws are present, the gasket is attached to the screw threads, and the impeller blades that are opened are caught and torn off.
