    There’s diversity in the Philippines. We are a nation of different races and ethnicities, just like the U.S. is. Filipino is a nationality or citizenship. Being a Filipino is all about our sense of belonging and identity. There’s no question she’s a Filipina. Every single one of them finds their true identity rooted in the Philippines.

      You sure different races? We are multicultural but not multiracial like malaysia! Filipinos are majority southeast asian face just like thailand, indonesia. Rarest are eurasian who usually live in cities. If you come to islands or provinces rarely you can find american or black look.

    • @walf89
      @walf89 Před měsícem +4

      You can’t be sure about race or ethnicity unless you undergo DNA testing; you can’t determine it by just looking at someone’s face. The point is that regardless of one’s ethnicity or race, someone born in the Philippines with Filipino culture and upbringing can be considered a Filipino. You can’t judge anyone by the way they look and not knowing their inner character.

      @@jehgelo *Incorrect. We are multi-ethnic, from the very beginning. We are also multicultural. There is no one definite look for a Filipino. There are Aetas, there are Igorots, there are Filipinos of East Asian descent, and Eurasians, besides the Malay Filipinos. Even there, each "ethnicity" are subdivided into smaller groups. Please re-educate yourself. Doesn't mean you don't see it, there isn't. Go back to school. Go around the Philippines. Learn more than your mother tongue and English. Experience the non-monolithic Filipino story.*

    So because she’s black and doesn’t look like the typical stereotypical women from the Philippines doesn’t mean she’s not aFilipina woman. Just because her father is American doesn’t make her less than. I doubt you would say that if she had the stereotypical look. Sounds a little ignorant.

    She is a Filipino with african-american blood. She was raised by her Filipino mom and stepfather. Her mom was separated from his biological dad when she was two yrs old, she only stayed in the US for about 3 yrs , and educated in the Philippines. She has all the rights to be called Miss Universe-Philippines. It’s just so sad when others see a mixed blood candidate from the Philippines, they question, when they win they (other countries/nationalities ) own them- suddenly the world thinks they are not Filipinos. Thinking that because they look different they are not Filipinos. I thought of pageantry as more than the physical attributes . She deserves the Universe-Philippines crown .Besides, the world is now multi racial, there isn’t any more of exclusion .

    The issue here is that the Philippines has a decades-long trajectory of favoritism of mestizo or mixed races and colorism. Especially when it comes to skin tone, it’s overly toxic for pale, fair, and whitening skin.
    Bulacan is a born and raised National. Though she is half, I’m proud for her to win. I hope her presence can break the cycle of toxic beauty standards. So many indigenous Aeta children are pleased to see her; she’s the key to changing the face on the global stage. Maybe after her reign, more indigenous, dark brown, and all shades of brown filipinas will feel welcomed. They’ll see her and have the courage to know they’re enough…. Even though the Philippine and Asian culture makes them think they’re not enough. They can finally stand tall and know they have a seat at the table with different hair types and shades of color.
    The time to change is now, and Chelsea is the one to make a new wave.

      I seconded ,some people here in the Philippines wants to have fair or white skin, idolize the “Barbie world “of young girls to be famous n in.
      It’s so sad we are bringing up our kids the wrong attitude in life. If you are not in their circle of life “bullying” is in this generation
      So sad !!!

    Every deligate works with designers of their own choice. The gowns are not provided by the organization. Chelsea actually was an independent candidate meaning, she did not actually have a huge team behind her, some of the other candidates did. I did end up following up with some of her recent interviews, and her gown actually represents her story and personality. It was designed to compliment the crown as well. Also, yes her biological dad is African American but the majority of her life was raised in the Philippines and she upholds the values of a true Filipina queen. (Also raised by her stepdad who is Filipino since the age of 2). If you follow her story, she represents nothing less than a true Filipina.

    Before the country was colonized by the White Europeans, the black Negritos existed and not only in the mountains as they are today in small numbers. This is a full circle moment for the country. God bless the Filipines for celebrating it’s black identity and not hiding it like many other countries. You go Miss Chelsea… Miss Universe! Flowers Mamita!
