  • Discover why being a vegetarian is the first step on the spiritual path with Acharya Shree Yogeesh. Learn how vegetarianism teaches respect, love, and oneness with all living beings and how it can lead to mental, emotional, and physical balance, making the spiritual path easier to progress on.
Acharya Shree Yogeesh explains why vegetarianism is crucial to being on the spiritual path. Vegetarianism teaches respect, love, and oneness to all living beings, leading to mental, emotional, and physical balance, making it easier to progress on the spiritual path. Being vegetarian is essential to reach the highest states of samadhi, enlightenment, or self-realization. Acharya Shree Yogeesh also discusses how to choose the right vegetarian food and the benefits of a vegetarian diet. Learn how being a vegetarian can lead to a healthier mind and body, making it easier to concentrate and meditate, and ultimately leading to a more divine and pure way of living.
By eating meat, a person collects karma. It is suggested to eat vegetables, grains, and fruits as these living beings are in a "vegetable state" and do not feel pain.

Thank you! Finally, someone who speaks out what I think. Becoming Vegetarian, in my eyes is the most obvious/most important thing to become as Spiritual person.
I don't know how many "Spiritual People" I came across on Spiritual Forums that claims, "It's ok to eat meat."
    Let the truth be told...
    AMEN!

A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral.

According to Autobiography of a Yogi - the Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose created some type of instrument able to read the magnetic fields of both animate and inanimate objects. And the book says plants basically give off a sonic scream when they are cut down, and their field fluctuates wildly. I originally heard something like this from elsewhere, and then saw it in this book not too long ago. I certainly don't fully comprehend the implications, but this is what I understand.

I think one of the main reasons western culture has not adopted the vegetarian ideas is because we are trained to want meat from all the television and advertisements we see around us. so much so that vegetarianism in north america is almost looked down upon. thinking that we need to be tough killing machines instead of compassionate, thoughtful individuals. well thats just my take on it

Every living being has the right of freedom.
By eating meat, one acknowledges torture, pain & crime can be done upon them because, while taking life of any living creature all these sufferings are involved. Even if one ignores this and continues to eat non-veg food, Law of Karma ensures these torture, pain & crime will be done on them either in this lifetime or in next incarnation.

I see what you mean, and I don't think it is "crazy" to have respect for other living creatures. If anyone wants to see what is meant by cruelty, I hope they will watch some videos on slaughterhouses.

There are some awful farms, with many downer disabled cows forced to move to the milking sheds with electric prods and the like. Also many of the calves are sent to slaughter for veal, and then the dairy cows are slaughtered once their milk is no longer up to standard.

The egg could have been life. Not the milk. It is also important to note that only drinking milk from a cow that has not been mistreated or abused is ok. So there is no milk you can buy in a store and it being ok, even if it is organic.

I've been vegetarian for about a year now (since Acharya Shree's last video on vegetarianism), but I am a fitness fanatic and need more calories than I would need for survival in order to build and maintain muscle, do you think this is OK? If they are in an unconcious state an don't feel anything, is it wrong of me to eat a little extra everyday, or is more it a case of, "what right do I have to unnessecarily cause the death of even a plant?"

Respect for Life is first of all respect for your life source. It doesn't mean that no animal should be killed because some animals can only eat other animals. That is their life source, and they respect their nature. But Humans don't respect their nature which is herbal, as we are primates. Many who claim that meat is necessary to eat are just egoistic people who love meat for its good taste, cooked&spiced.I'd love to see these people hunting an animal with their bare hands and eating it alive.
