Thank you for watching!
Sheryl and Paul
I loved the little tug setup they have for moving boats around. Someone was thinking on that design.
Yes I was very impressed and wonder that others haven't copied it! Very practical especially with a tight approach to the haulout slip.
Me too! Never seen such a thing.
I was impressed with that as well. It was like water-forklift/hi-lo jack. Very clever,
Distant Shores TV applications are endless for boats dragging anchors or relocating adjacent boats during a marina fire. Those units should almost be mandatory for established marinas.

Hatteras is the graveyard of the Atlantic. Amazing navigation!
Absolutely fantastic!
Thank you very much and Safe Travels!!
Quality as always. Thank You for the videos and Happy Holidays.
You have one of the best channels for usable info. Thanks for what you do. Smooth sailing.
Thanks so much Tom! Glad you’re getting useful information from our shows 👍❤️
Cheers and thank you for sharing your adventures...
Smooth professional sailing, videography, and editing. Looks like the latest Distant shores is a treat of sailing goodies that has not let you down to date. Thanks for sharing Cheryl & Paul!
Great clip. Thanks you for sharing
Always nice to watch you guys. So very educational and in a very simple learning style. Cheers and Happy Holidays
Your video’s allways feel like an adventure and vacation. Happy to see them. Congratiolations with your beautiful ship 🥂
Great info. Love it.
I always learn something useful this time the radar to plot the weather cheers
Love this boat so beautiful and also has a ton of great gadgets you guys are very lucky to call her home
I wish you both a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season! I love your videos!
Cheers, another outstanding video. You are the best because there are teaching moments in you videos. There is so much sex going on some of the other vlogs. It is refreshing to watch and learn from you and escape the corvid-19 locking all over the world. Thanks for keeping it real. During my US Navy days in Norfolk many storms off the coast.
Another wonderful video....very informative and entertaining.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Greetings from Australia
Excellent stuff
Your video editing is really good. And some of the best shots of a squall line I’ve seen.
Your videography in this episode is superb. The color contrasts are strikingly lovely even as they are ominous.
Merry Christmas wherever you happen to be!
Excellent video!
excellent, thank you.
Nasty looking shelf cloud up ahead!
I put up our trysail the moment I see one and wait for the worst!
Great video! Thanks and Merry Christmas !
Merry Christmas to you as well S Sather :-)
Great sailing and video 👌👍
U guys do it right.....great boat.
love your boat
I enjoyed your video as usual, especially your review of your in mast furling. i have in mast furling on my and really like it as well. of course, I haven't put as many miles on mine as you have.
Beautifull
We had a Selden manual in-mast furling system with a vertical baton large roach main on our Hunter 410. It was some time ago, but I have to say I cannot imagine having a larger boat without it. Worked perfectly while bringing in as long as you maintained control of the outhaul with the depowered sail.
Congrats!
I am fron Brasil, tanks for your film
Merry Christmas! What a great little boat tender they had at the boat yard for maneuvering boats! That mainsail winch handle would be much better if it were larger, quite small for such a large sail and especially if you need to furl it quickly.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
Cheers and Happy Christmas 🎄🎄🎄from 🇺🇾👍
Thanks Johnny and Merry Christmas 🎄 to you too❤️🎄
Such a beautiful boat! Wow!
Yes, KM Yachtbuilders have some really nice models of yachts.
@@DistantShoresTV we just watched that episode, congratulations! They build very nice boats in our country!
I learned to sail on tributary of Chesapeake Bay. Grew up one mile from beach where we used to dive for oysters. Informative videos. Watching since tv series.
Thanks Tink! You are lucky to have had the Chesapeake for sailing and oystering! Nice!
2:53 Looks like some squall lines I've seen on Lake Ontario, not the Atlantic. 4:30: Sheryl, you looked as if you were invoking Norse gods with that well-timed lightning! 8:26: good points with worst-case scenarios, Paul.
Watched so many of your shows, outstanding as always. Had to say your editing is top notch. Hope you won’t need to use the manual winch to furl the mainsail, that looked painful 😜
Love the review. Merry Christmas!
That storm line looked worrying. It was interesting to see it and the radar image for comparison.
so many gadgets, gizmos, and electronics. Good for you, but gives me maintenance nightmares :P
Great video the vertical battens in your main sail how did they perform as keeping the sail shape verses a horizontal batten
Good vid ya'll.
Ominous yet awesome storm system. Reading a few comments seems people wanted you to sail through the middle of it! I think I’d rather see it from a distance.
Yes the comments section of CZcams is a curious place sometimes 😅😊
Great video. Question about in mast furling: how come they always make the coordination of keeping tension on the sail manual? I would think it could be fulling automated? I wonder if in mast furling is better for the sail cloth? I would think so because its being wrapped vertically so moisture can run down and out rather than pool in the folds of the sail when done horizontally into a bag plus the sail is wrapped rather than crumpled up in a horizontal bag. What are your thoughts?
Are you guys still in Maryland? We are back from Spain visiting our family over Christmas. It would be fun to meet up!
💖🦋🌲⛵️ I hope the both of you have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic new year fair winds 🇦🇺💖🦋🌈⛵️⛵️⛵️🍷🍷🍷
Thanks and same back atcha Paul❤️😊💕
Happy New Year !!! Have a question, What are Southerlys' decks cored with ? What are the 480s and larger boats cored with, if they are different ? Thanks in advance.
I must have just missed meeting you! I was hanging out with John, Tadji, Nathan, and Vivian at Spring Cove in early October-- was that when you were there?... or, I'm guessing by the weather it might have been earlier in the season...
Your new Distant Shores boat is beautiful!
On the in-mast furling, would you say the sail efficiency is comparable with the traditional sails? Equal? Or slightly less, but not dramatic? Or less efficient, but comfort makes it worthwhile? The sail curving is less pronounced, in order to allow it get inside the mast.
This channel makes me think the cast of how it's made retired and moved onto a sailboat
If y'all have any footage of extended sailing in some bad whether that would be cool to watch..
How do you find the sailing performance of the vertical battened main and inner jib in a reefed mode?
Thanks for the review of the Selden mast review. Janice and I just purchased an Antares and we are getting the in mast furling as well. Hope all is well and hope to see you soon!
Hey guys Congratulations on the new boat!! Antares 44! You must be so excited! Love, Paul & Sheryl!
How do you reef this type of mainsail ? Merry Christmas !!!
Well, mad hatters, they say... :)
I might have mis-seen, but there appears to be a fair amount of what appears to be rust on the stainless. Is that common after only one year?
🙂👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Guys. Just wanted to wish you all the very best for a Great Christmas and great sailing on your New adventure to the pacific in 2020. cheers.
Thanks Andy! We're really excited!
How do you cook bacon on board? I am afraid it would make a mess with grease.
Got my Ocracoke hat on for this one!
Nice!!
When was this filmed? When are you leaving for the Pacific? Wishing you the holiday salutation of your choice!
Happy Holidays to you also! We filmed this in June of this year as we were leaving the zone for the Hurricane season... now we're back in Bahamas and off to Panama in February :-)
video and you are beautiful! thank!
quite rare storm scences for such a title
Why did you get a furling mast rather than a furling boom? I've been thinking about this and have thought if the fuller broke or the sail got stuck on a furling boom you could still manage the mainsail, just curious
How do you deal with seasickness?
Would love to know how you managed with the process of obtaining a UK registration, being Canadians? I'm considering the same thing, with a US reg'd Beneteau I'm buying in Annapolis. I'm actually a dual national. Did you have any issues with Transport Canada or the CRA?
Distant Shore cruising clout? What is the link and what's required to be a member?
Cape Hatteras -- they build apartment buildings out there!
:)
Other sailing channels should take notes from Distant Shores.. show a map at the beginning to orientate the viewers to physical location during the videos!
Just love watching your videos! Maybe I'm wrong but it seems you're dubbing audio sometimes and I find it a bit distracting. Just seems a bit inauthentic. I'd actually prefer bad audio! 🙂
Anyway thumbs up as always.
Thanks Dustypancakes❤️. Interesting 🤔 comment on our dubbing or ADR as we call it. It takes roughly 1 hour to replace a 30 second segment but we feel it’s worth it to make the narrative more listenable. Of course it’s best if we can record good audio when filming and we have spent quite a lot on microphones over the years. But sometimes especially in the dinghy or out in the wind it comes out very rough. Then we feel people would rather have it dubbed than have to read subtitles. The time comes in trying to sync the lips with the original performance with the “looped” version.
I would be interested in how many people feel as you do or how many notice we do replace some dialog🤔
@@DistantShoresTV Wonderful to hear from you. Thanks for the thoughtful reply. It must be quite challenging to time it exaclty with your lips AND make it sound like you're in the moment. Anyway it's not that bad. Just a thought. I always enjoy watching your videos as someone who only sails the comparably smaller and calmer Lake Ontario. Merry Christmas!
@@DistantShoresTV I watch your videos here on youtube since you've boght DS III (the episode in Delphia Yachts attracted me to your channel). I consider your dubbing noticeable time to time but never distracting. It's like your flavour in a positive way.
I fear the handle is not stout enough, nor gives you’ve enough purchase
Another great show , just a note re the inmast furled although I’m sure you are on to it, A better winch handle for the manual furled would be prudent, and a set up to release the out haul at the mast so one person can do it maybe also a good idea. You may only ever need it once but the once may be critical . Other than that I am extremely envious.
That handle is far too short for rewinding the main!
Bbb
Should of stayed in the Caribbean.
We wanted to be out of the Caribbean for hurricane season but have now arrived back in the Bahamas 🙏🏻🏝
@@DistantShoresTV Good move, i know of 3 vessels that went to Curacao to escape the season as well that way escaping the storms as well as the cold.
Click bait.. It's "Avoiding storm off Hatteras". Not even "Avoiding storm off Hatteras!"
