I am a Trump supporter, but I can't agree with this. DeSantis had a lot of appeal at that time with the anti-woke stance and taking a hardline on COVID. The fact that he didn't lock down but still had a simliar death rate as California did a LOT for his appeal, and that message was taking hold at just the right time. He would've won Florida regardless of Trump.

I was living in Florida from 2017 until a couple of months ago. I have been a registered Florida Republican ever since I stepped foot on the state back in 2017. I remember the 2018 election very well as I helped in a congressional campaign. DeSantis has become the biggest liar and hypocrite in our party in the modern era. In the primaries he was getting ROCKED by Adam Putnam (who I voted for) on polls daily and if it wasn’t for Trump’s endorsement, DeSantis would have NEVER won that primary. After winning the primary I remember seeing him in an event at a Church by Kissimmee where I lived at the time, he came made his speech and quickly left without greeting or taking pictures with people that were at the event which I considered very odd cause most of the time the political candidate would prefer to get to know the people going to the event. Closer to election day, the congressional campaign I was working on needed support to say the least and when they asked DeSantis for help, he declined and said “I am running my own campaign” choosing to throw fellow Republican and Conservative candidates over the bus for HIS OWN ego and arrogance. He is by far one of the most arrogant politicians I’ve seen, I did vote for him in the general election in 2018 and was very glad he barely beat far left candidate Andrew Gillum and that he did a FANTASTIC job keeping us away from the covid dictatorship and in general as governor, but he should have waited to COMPLETE the term he was elected for BY THE PEOPLE, be LOYAL to the man that got him that position by backing Trump now and then maybe appear as the leading conservative candidate in 2028 with Trump’s ok… but his ego got the best of him, which will mark his decline…

I'm in Florida and I remember that election like it was yesterday, DeSantis didn't have a chance. It was not looking food for him. Trumps endorsement helped BIG time. The fact he is denying it is laughable.
Why did Trump endorse him? Maybe DeSantis would help him in some way, two politicians are using each other all the time. It's politics, right? No one would help a guy who is unable to help him/her.

DeSantis played this all wrong by even running in 2024. I know the winds might have changed by then and might have been worried that he would lose his momentum, but he was all set to be the guy in 2028 and he would most likely be going against Newson who single-handedly destroyed California. (no telling how even worse it will be by then) It would have been a walk in the park for him. Even if he felt he had to run to keep his name in the air, he should have at least taken a page out of Vivek's playbook instead of trying to go against Trump even though he knows how strong his base is. In a way, it's coming across as biting the hand that fed you which is not a good look especially when that hand has a strong loyal base behind him.

If he had used the right information, he would say “the reason why Trump attacked you is because you had no comment when somebody asked you if you wanted to run for president”. Accountability for COVID is my #1 concern and when DeSantis talks like this I support him over Trump. But then I remember that he lost me by spending a year focusing on irrelevant social issues because he foolishly listened to establishment campaign strategists. As a Floridian, I can tell you Trumps endorsement pulled Desantis out of the weeds. I love DeSantis, but as a combat veteran, this is why we don't like commissioned officers. They lack gratuity and, most importantly, combat experience. Desantis would get eaten alive in the swamp! I'm amazed Trump actually got done as much as he did with all the grotesque opposition.
