The abrupt termination of employees by Sofitel management is both unethical and cruel but there is no legal remedy for it as long as they fulfill their obligations i.e. release just amount for their respective separation pay. With the animosity between workers and the management, rehiring them may not be an option.
One of the problems that workers face is that there are more job seekers than job openings. Business entities are then in a position of power when it comes to selection.
Paradoxically, the people who push for more regulations are the ones keeping the gap between job seekers and job openings large, as they disincentivize investors from creating job opportunities.
This is just a business tactics by Sofitel.

The owners put more money into it, placed all the risks into putting it up at first, receives all the negatives and some of the positives of the business. Ang mga empleyado SWELDO LANG PNPROBLEMA NIYO!! Anong workers nagpapayaman pareho lang sila nakikinabang jan hirap sainyo eh makasarili din kayo di magsasara yan kng wala problema! Ang mga empleyado abusado din eh puro pag sila na agrabyado iiyak kala mo nmn sila nag put up ng business at naghirap itayo yan! DUMATING LANG KAYO SILA ANG NAG TAYO! Kung ayaw niyo madami jan mas maayos na tatanggap. Sakit sa ulo ng mga ganitong banat eh.

we all know the feeling once your going to be out of work serving a company. but companies thrive on profit for the shareholders. this the culture of corporate business and this is the reality of working class. the UNION knows the LAW there partylist rep should improve the LAW on labor management and compensation. partylist representatives are part of the political spectrum that they to compromise for their personal political gains, thus NO GROWTH in the Philippines as a whole. the Sofitel is an example of how politics and corporate business monopolized progress. so pray for better minded management.

If I was one of them, I'd rather be busy looking for another job instead. They all know that closure is imminent and they cannot do anything about it. Also, It's not a good idea to wait kung kailan matatapos ang renovation because what if it takes 4 years for that to finish, saan ka kukuha ng income mo? you will definitely lose if you don't accept that separation pay. And if in case it's a a re-brand, this is entirely managed by a new property so that means they will hire an entirely new set of workers.

Legal naman ginawa ng Sofirel, they got their severance pay, wala na sila habol dyan. They should just admit that they're laid off and go find another job. Private company yan, di yan nagbibigay ng welfare at lalong di yan charity.

One of my favorite hotels. Minsan talaga dapat isara for renovation at walang trabaho halos lahat pero normally kapag mahusay kang employee ibabalik ka nila. Hopefully, magka ayos kayo.
Sila po mismo ang nasa loob na empleyado at alam nila ang totoong nangyayari. Malamang sa hindi talagang inalis nila lahat kunwari renovation tapos mag ooperate na may bago ng employees for sure karamihan OJT hahaha!
