China's Best Smartphone Camera vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

  • This video was made in partnership with OPPO.
Phones in the US seem to have become stale, specifically with the cameras. Phones from China have seemingly superior camera hardware, so that got me wondering. How much does phone camera hardware matter? And are phones like the new OPPO Find X7 Ultra better at taking photos? In this video, we’ll take a closer look at the photos from the new Galaxy S24 Ultra and the OPPO Find X7 Ultra.
Please comment below with any questions you might have. Thank you all for watching! I appreciate you! #Ad

The photos on oppo feel like they have been taken from a dslr, cant say for sure for the samsung. The natural blur on the oppo really is a thing of beauty.

@thelio.l nah L. I use to like Sony but they could never deliver a good overall package. If the camera hardware was good, then it would bogged down by slow software or vice versa

Sony lost because they wont adopt an auto mode that is capable for the average smartphone user. The hardware is very capable but its just not suitable for most of the tasks a smartphone camera is used for like snapping quite shots as you walk or group photos without spending 5 minutes setting up manual settings. @@stephaned3072

I would argue that the company that pushed smartphone cameras to where they are is Google. Yes their hardware is almost always behind, but they pioneered this modern movement of software enhanced photography and still consistently take the best main sensor shots on auto.

Samsung REALLY needs to up their color processing game. In terms of detail and exposure they're pretty similar, but Oppo's colors blow Samsung's out of the water. It's something I've noticed on my S21, and it looks like is still present in the S24 line.

Oppo's portraits were mad impressive, I think it won in all 3 focal lengths. Even the last one that you gave to Samsung I think the Oppo was a lot more detailed and natural while the Samsung was a bit blurry.

...really impressive camera hardware on the Oppo... (sure image processing makes partially up for it)... But also the choice of the zoom lenses seems more suitable a 65mm + 135mm (2,8X+6X) surely offers more flexibility than 67mm+111mm (3X+5X)

Great comparison video highlighting the current trend for Chinese premium mobile manufacturers to use the latest larger sensors and partner with a 'lens manufacturer' for the image fine tuning. Both Apple and Samsung are releasing more incremental updates with changes to one sensor and not adopting the 1" type sensors at this stage, instead focussing on processing, colour and video frame rate consistency across the sensors. I believe that whilst the processing does play a significant role the pure physics of the larger sensor should provide the foundation for a better image. Perhaps the iPhone 16 or 17 and Samsung S25 may move to adopting one 1" sensor as both manufacturers may want to delay the 'all larger sensor model' in order to keep those iterative annual updat cycles! Also interesting that Samsung has kept quiet about the model of 5X sensor used n the S24 Ultra.

While a One Inch Sensor is indeed unusually large on a phone (Only Sony and Oppo have do so, I believe, it bears mentioning that such a sensor is NOT actually 1 inch. The convoluted formula required to clsim such a thing is truly bizzare, where Part of the cathode ray tube's diameter was the tube wall and was not used for imaging purposes, so using cathode ray tube's diameter, the area was reduced from 25.4mm to 16mm. So, a lens suitable for a 1" type cathode ray tube did not need an image circle that extended to the entire 25.4mm tube diameter. Got it? No?, good!

    1. Sponsored by OPPO ( may have bias or gag clause by oppo to only cherry pick scenarios) how do you address this?

By the way, my S22 Ultra takes nicer photos than S24 Ultra. For some reason, pictures taken with S24 Ultra are washed out, have no ''life'' in them, no personality, nothing special ... They are just good pictures and that's it.

OK, I'm not having this. Let's stop the nonsense. "The hardware on the Oppo is superior but they both did a good job". Nope. Every single photo here was better on the Oppo - often much better. It's really no rocket science: Oppo shoot like a real camera while the Galaxy shoots like a phone. I certainly know which one I'd choose. The only thing to note: You need to select the Hasselblad natural color mode on the Oppo to make sure you're getting the most natural photos/colors. That's why the sky looked a bit too blue in some photos.
