Seven friends, recent college graduates, are searching for a place in the real world, as they face issues of career and commitment. Leslie and Alec (Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson) try to save a crumbling romance. Wendy (Mare Winningham), a shy virgin, hides a love for Billy (Rob Lowe), a reluctant father/husband still searching for goals. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) is a cynical writer who scorns love until he realizes he's in love with his best friend's girl. Kirbo (Emilio Estevez), a law student, obsessively pursues an older woman. The beautiful, neurotic Jules (Demi Moore) paints a poignant picture of life in the fast lane. Against the backdrop of St. Elmo's, their local hang-out, they save, betray and love one another as only the closest of friends can.

Two years later he meets Emmy, a window display mannequin, and lives happily ever after.
Sadly, things didn't work out with the mannequin and they broke up. Soon after, she moved from Philadelphia to New York and became a public relations executive.
@@lagarde2011 Then he hooked back up with his high school girlfriend, some girl named Molly Ringwald, she went by several different names, like Andie in 1988.
lol
😂🙌🏻
😂😂
I saw this movie when it was released in 1985. I was only in grade school but imagined at the time that this is what college/young adulthood would be like.
I finished my four year degree in 1985. This movie chronicled my new adult life, but I was no where near as successful as many of the characters were.
I cried a lot in my early to late 20s.
Now that I'm 24 I will say, this is a lot like college years 😂
@@meking6327 Exactly! These films gave us all such unrealistic expectations.
Emilio, Mccarthy, Ringwald, Nelson, Sheedy, Demi!
Talk about my generation!
The look on Alecs face was priceless, he so deserved this.
Absolutely...I saw this in the movie theater..love this movie
He was such an a#$hole in this movie
Really the entire brat pack was beautiful and so talented and gorgeous, they had so much chemistry together ,i wish they didnt think brat pack was down grade,it really wasnt.
Ngl, it kinda ticks me off. Everyone wanted to be like them.
Read the article. It was a downgrade.
"It's not the fat chick." Poor Leslie, she honestly deserved a better deal than what she got. Alec constantly cheated on her, yet he kicked HER out when she discovered his infidelity, right in front of all their friends. Then, after finding out that she slept with Kevin, Alec has the audacity to shame Leslie, even though she technically didn't cheat on him if they were already broken up.
Not to mention, he announces their engagement at a party without ever having asked her. What a major douche.
I hated his character in this movie (Alec)
@donnalm23 I hated him on paper, but because it was Judd Nelson I loved him!
Alec and Kevin see Leslie as a possession, not a person. Alec sees her as the steady housewife to keep up his image while he has fun on the side. Kevin sees her as some fantasy to save him from his cynicism (which he really doesn't believe).
She also uses them, every character in this movie is a s@@t bag.
How does Kevin see her as a possession?
@@kroakie4They just said. Making a woman into your fantasy is just as dehumanizing.
I really don’t see how Kevin fantasizes about Leslie. He’s just in love. He respected her enough not to interfere in her relationship with Alec, and he waited for her. It’s not like ever alluded to thinking of her as something she wasn’t and then fell in love with that self-invented version of her.
@@kroakie4 Yeah I don't think possession is quite the right word, but he certainly doesn't see her as a person. He sees her as this idea of happiness. He thinks if he gets her he'll be happy but she's still a flawed person with her own hang ups. He doesn't want to see that though. He just wants her to be this shining beautiful key to happiness.
Judd is BEAUTIFUL!!!💕💕💕💕
Best Nostrils Ever
The 80s❤
Ally Sheedy Is So Beautiful Gorgeous Woman ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I finished my four year degree in 1985. This movie chronicled my new adult life, but I was no where near as successful as many of the characters were.
I cried a lot in my early to late 20s.
Me too!
Alec deserved every bit of Leslie's payback lol
Loved this movie. The 80's were the best of times!
If that was today it would be Leslie catching Alex and Kevin.
Cracked me up 😂
😂😂😂😂 they gonna remake it soon lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
With a newly-worked rendition of the Motown classic "When a man loves a man" playing as the musical score.
That would have been WAY more interesting 🤩
Gawd that movie is so good

Alec: Shut up!
I think I am still in love with Andrew MacCarthy
He’s still gorgeous to this day
He looks 100% better now, then when he was young
Great movie 😢❤
The call of the wild 1985 it’s a great movie from fox pictures.
It is Alec not Alex
So this is what happened after the breakfast club
She could of stayed in his room.
She probably figured what the hell, the relationship is over, I'm going to pay him back. The look on his face...she got him where it hurts.
She wanted him to know. To get a taste of his own medicine.
This is a Hollywood version of a D.C. apartment that doesn't exist.
Was gonna say, where is there an apt like that in DC???
@@tronsnow4763 I've lived in apartments within D.C. and within the Beltway for 35 years, and have yet to see anything like this fake apartment. This movie isn't alone in that it creates fake living spaces. The West Wing showed apartments where junior staffers were suppose to have lived, but those places would have required salaries of about $200,000 to afford. (Remember, Jessica Cutler, who as a staffer for Sen. Mike Dewine, she turned tricks among Capitol Hill officials to pay for her apartment).
Sorry can’t see anything but the breakfast club right now.
I just see Blaine from Pretty in Pink, Bender, and the crazy lady who steals Bridget Fonda’s identity.😂
except Ally was not the crazy lady who sole Bridget Fonda's identity. That was Jennifer Jason Leigh
You're thinking of Jennifer Jason Leigh 😂Allly Sheedy wasn't cast in Single White Female
Well….I see JJL when I watch Ally Sheedy in St Elmo’s Fire. 🤦♀️
Fact tho: JJL looks like Ally when she dyes her hair brown. 😆
thought that was justin beiber in the thumbnail😂
I can see a new horizon.
All I needs a pair o wings

They're trying to make a sequel now. I guess by now the retirement worry years.
ma tu buelto marvin????l avenida parque de las rosas
Umm why are they not freaking out that her partner and his best friend just walked in lmao. Seems a bit unrealistic she would just be stroking his hair
There was a time when people weren't as emotionally overwrought as they are now. This scene was actually pretty realistic for our generation.
Alec, actually... Not Alex, (Am an enough fart to have seen this in the theatre in '85), So, am sorry to be a stickler (not sorry).
That is Justin Bieber. No one can tell me otherwise.
Alec is a bad boyfriend. Kevin is a bad friend to Alec to go for his friend's ex when they are having issues and Leslie isn't any better sleeping with her ex's best friend and then walking out like that just to rub it in his face.
Yep they called them the Brat Pack for a good reason
This movie looks kinda depressing and painful to watch, seems to show a lot of defining and trajectory launching moments for its characters without the hyper stylized aesthetics of more modern movies.
Right? A friend hyper-recommended to me, and I just couldn't, skipped to the end... But from I saw, it's like a 'How I met your mother', but a bit more back-stabbing between friends, therefore more painful.
Pretty good movie and not that depressing but all the characters are a@@holes.
nostril
Messy as hell
Leslie didnt deserve Kevin at the end.
Kevin was 2 steps away from being an incel 😂 Leslie could do better and she didn't lie to him. She wasn't in love with him anyway
Pretty good movie but every character is an a$$hole.
She went single white female not too long after. Scary.
Huh? Ally Sheedy isn't in Single White Female.
@@jacquiew.9165 oh, my bad
That was Brigitte Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Great flick.
This a film that seeps into your soul. Movies today don't.
" It ain't easy being me"
Who hears that in their head today, all these years later??
St Elmo's Fire is profound.
