      To be honest, having no limitations in game design causes failures, glitches, and early access games to occur compared to 20/30 years prior. Thus, many of the games can be updated via the internet, this wasn't a possibility back in the 2000s and before.
      Also, a game that's falsely advertised is forever doomed from the get go. This is why game development should not be over 1 million dollars, let alone 1 billion plus dollars to make these games. I personally think they need to downgrade on game development and they'll be able to succeed with stuff that people would like to buy, with dialogue that doesn't sound like it came from a tumblr DEI/New World Order type of garbage.

  • @punchieouchieguy
    @punchieouchieguy Před měsícem +37

    IMO, we're firmly in the diminishing returns generation. Consoles are all powerful enough to run most available games if the ports are optimized properly, I don't think there's a current gen Crysis where you NEED the latest bestest hardware to get a complete experience with the game. For me ray tracing or other big dick graphical flexes just aren't worth the few hundred bucks I'd have to spend for a new console, I'd rather spend that money on a bunch of older games.

    • @punchieouchieguy
      @punchieouchieguy Před měsícem +1

      @ThatGuy-ky2yf yup, it's not that games have gotten worse, but there's plenty of room for improvement outside of visuals. Like, good netcode for multiplayer or making open world games more varied and interactive. Or backwards compatability and emulation.

    • @kylemulkey9659
      @kylemulkey9659 Před měsícem +3

      I've been saying this for years. The rush to get good graphics ended the day that you could identify humans as specific people. When I could actually tell the difference between LeBron James and his teammates, that is the end of the graphics rush for me. Yes obviously they have become a lot more, but it has become so bloated and so massive in size that the returns aren't worth the investment. Games cost way more to produce which means that the chance for failure is higher than ever so companies play it way too safe. It makes sense since you can't spend 100 million on a game that may or may not sell. I still find beauty in games made 25 years ago, and would be perfectly happy with stuff from the 360 era (games like Rage look incredible still) if that meant we could get better games overall. Give me something with a good story, a great netcode for multiplayer, or whatever.

    • @SuperFlashDriver

      Yeah, I also see Generation 9 as "The Corporate Generation". Everything's been ironed out from the previous generations that, corporations can only rely so much on their old IPs until their grand cruise ships start to slowly sink into the ocean until there's nothing left to profit off of and end up in some massive recession in the entire entertainment industry, not just the gaming industry. We could see an entertainment crash (the first of its kind, possibly) sometime between 2025 and 2030, but video games might be the first to crash and burn, with movies coming in a second place because they're just as bad as what video games have become as well. Also it has reach mainstream peak that it'll probably end up being niche int he coming generations. But again, I do think the only way they can sell stuff to gamers is if the console is also a computer that is backwards compatible with all video games consoles, arcade machines, and computer operating systems, including emulation....Which is why I do feel that video game consoles having a built in computer operating system would offset the cost of making a new console in the future....Otherwise, there's no point in buying a console when PC gaming laptops should be discounted at 75 percent of their price point to seel it more to gamers at a loss but gain a massive sales in terms of PC buyers and such, but that's just me. The same goes with mobile devices.

      Yeah, again it's merely what I call "The Corporate Generation" being that the games are so bad, glitchy, messy, rushed, unpolished (much like how many games from the Atari 2600 in the early 1980s ended up with), and too much oversaturation of games might cause a recession or a second video game crash sometime between 2025 and 2030. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo, PC, and Mobile gaming are the only survivors left, especially PC and Nintendo gaming.

    I'm very interested to see what the next console generation looks like, because we've absolutely hit a breaking point with this one. Microsoft I suspect will almost certainly be bowing out to focus more on developing/publishing, and despite their relative success I get the impression that Sony wouldn't mind doing the same. Unless your entire business is built around the concept, as with Nintendo, the reality is that arbitrarily limiting the exposure of your enormous software IPs is kind of dumb, and just introduces development pressures in places where they aren't useful.
    What any of that would actually mean I have no clue, though I'm sure the idea of a nightmarish "unified MS/Sony game-streaming service that nobody asked for" is a twinkle in the eyes of at least a few executives on both sides.

If Snake Eater Delta proves us wrong, great, but the fact that a remastered port of the original is already on both PS4 and PS5 (and other systems), yeah, the remake would have to change things up. Nintendo almost has the gaming business atmosphere to a tee, but their problems is the aggressive defense of their IP, forcibly closing fan events like with their smash bros tournaments, and not having a good way of acquiring their older titles. (each nintendo console has had such a grand fine wine selection of games with unique ideas that some of us today want to enjoy, but don't have the option because nintendo doesn't supply and its all super expensive online)

    Looking at just the Xbox and PS5 is a limiting way of trying to define this generation in my opinion, for me this generation is the indie generation, it's defined by PC, the switch and the steam deck, games made by small indie studios have been the ones making biggest waves then ever: among us, hades, lethal company, hollow knight... And the most comfortable way to play them is portable consoles and pc, heck one of the biggest games last year was baldurs gate 3, an entry in an old franchise that only very hardcore crpg fans knew about for decades, this is the generation that makes people give chances to new things they haven't played before thanks to streaming and social media instead of just playing call of duty warzone 18 or whatever

    I was actually talking about this yesterday, so the timing is really funny to me. I had a Xbox Series S and sold it when I realized I mostly played my Switch. I got a free Xbox Series X for signing up for Verizon FIOS (it was a promo) right around the time everyone lost confidence in the Xbox earlier this year, so I sold it with the intention of getting a used PS5. Except then that Sony guy said the console's life was half over already.
    I firmly feel like AAA games haven't really changed all that much since the 360 & PS3. It's almost like we peaked then. The Xbox One X and PS4 have been amazing consoles that are still hanging on with indies and certain third parties and I just feel like we've hit a point where consoles are "good enough". I'm not playing games to have interactive real-time Hollywood movies. I'm playing games to chill, challenge or enjoy myself. Like Spider-Man on PS4 was good, but when you *really* get down to it was it all that different than what Spider-Man 2 did on the Gamecube/PS2?
    The primary exception to that, for me, has been Nintendo games like Breath of the Wild. The Switch may not be the most powerful console, especially when playing in handheld. But hey, the port of Red Dead Redemption is actually a pretty solid 30fps experience. Everything I'm hearing about the next Switch is that it should sit somewhere between Xbox One X/Xbox Series S/PS4 Pro -- when docked. I can't wait to see what Monolithsoft does with that level of performance.
    For third party and indies, you can't beat a gaming PC, even if PC ports aren't the most optimized. Like you my hardware's aging - I have a Ryzen 7 3700X with 32gb of RAM & a Radeon 5700X. But I can still play games like Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Village, God of War, FF7 Remake just fine. Not to mention indies come to Steam first most of the time and still play great on older hardware. I really think my next "console" -- aside from a Switch 2 -- will either be a custom "Steam Machine" (remember those?) using a third party SteamOS distro, or a hell, a Steam Deck 2... whenever that releases. Xbox and Sony just don't have any traditional console exclusives left. They almost all come to PC eventually.

It really stung. It's clear the way gamedev is handled paired with rising costs & Covid simultaneously ruining workflow & giving execs a money bubble due to everyone staying inside has destroyed a lot of the things in the industry. It's like trying to wring water out of an ever drying washcloth. Doesn't help that now more than ever, this generation has executives stepping in to course correct projects, only greenlight the biggest bets no matter how broken etc.

    I'm in the same spot. I see almost no reason to get a PS5, and while my PC is less dated, it's still midrange, but that's more than enough for most games I play. I mostly play indie games or emulators at this point, and the handful of games I play by bigger publishers don't usually push hardware very much. I'll upgrade at some point, but I think I can get a good few more years or maybe even more out of what I already have.

  • @MegaDrainProductions
    @MegaDrainProductions Před měsícem

    I LOVE my PS5, but I'm not gonna sit here thinking it's not just a glorified ps4pro. So far the only time I've really been blown away is the fast travel mechanic in Spiderman 2 and the beginning of the game where it's zipping you throughout the map is just Insomniac flexing the ssd. But other than that it's a beefy ps4pro, but I'm fine with that. I never upgraded to pro and had the base ps4 model, so it was definitely an upgrade.
    For the Series X: While it is the most powerful console of the generation, Microsoft's insistence on holding developers back because of the Series S, sorta makes the X feel like a PS3 2.0; most powerful, but barely utilized.

    All Nintendo really Nintendo is Switch to be comparable to PS4/Xbox one systems in comparable specs just to have that backlog move on to their next system. So many current gen games still support old platforms for so long and many games can just be downgraded to run on a switch 2 if devs want.

    IMO I still see the Switch as being part of the WiiU/PS4/Xbone generation. We've seen companies release new hardware in the same generation before.
    Also the Switch uses Nvidia's Shield hardware released in 2014. Which is a lot closer to the mainline consoles being released in 2013. No way Switch games are next gen. The majority of WiiU games were even rereleased on Switch and sold way better

The type of person who always believe newer==better; must buy because all I do after my 9-5 is watch tv, go out with the same people, or play modern games. Yet, I do not despise the normie, for when they do get behind something, big business follows. Still, they puzzle me at times.

    Nintendo re-releasing Wii U stuff on Switch is much more justifiable than Sony re-releasing PS4 stuff on PS5. first off, PS5 is already backcompat with PS4 games anyway, so why the re-release? secondly, the Switch re-releases don't just add some shallow "oh it looks better" shit, they actually offer you the ability to play those games that used to keep you confined to your couch, ON THE GO.
    still, fuck Nintendo for their anti-preservation bullshit

    The switch, and the ps5, have been the greediest I seen of the two, and the soulless I seen of nintendo, Sony upped the price of psn a service largely unchanged since ps3 and put a requirement to have a psn account on their pc releases, nintendo has made nothing, the switch, is nothing, it has no personality, it has no features, just games, and after 2020 the first parties became more rushed, I most experienced such with the animal crossing release and its following updates, and pokemon, and Zelda tears of the kingdom isn't running good and looks pretty bad, the hardware isn't there even when it came out, the online is paid and worse than the previous free nintendo network services, and the switch ui is the blandest featureless ui I've ever entered, why do people want underclocked 2015 mobile nvidia hardware? The games fell off in quality, the hardwarenis struggling to run a good bit of 3rd parties and now even some first parties, its time to go back to what the wii u and 3ds had or nintendo is plummeting into greed, and xbox?, is just clueless, they have good ips, but they don't use them, they just grab halo and keep running it into the ground, gamepass is okay though, and well, they got the most powerful console at the moment, to put my view of modern consoles and games right now, I played animal crossing new horizions for a year and quit (I pre-ordered it and stayed up all night to play it) and I played animal crossing new leaf so much its my most played 3ds game, nobody seems to be noticing games are in a downward spiral in quality and rising in price, just like everything else

  • @fusionspace175

    Your objections seem to be mostly based in hardware and game development, so perhaps there's hope for you as those things change. I, however, find myself just disgusted with modern game design, and that's why I walked away. Spider Man on PS4 had a great combat system, but that is the only thing it has going for it, the web swinging is an embarrassment. Why don't they ever use the SM2 swing system that everyone agrees was the best? Why does your downward speed never translate into forward momentum? Why is it not a real physics engine, but a bullshit approximation of one?
    What do you do for most of your time in a Spidey game? Web swinging. Make that fun, and the rest can be less impressive but you'll still have a more fun game. And it is so slow. The entire game I kept thinking the speed would increase, but it remains pathetic with all upgrades because the world is so complex the system can't draw it fast enough to allow for the kind of motion SM2 did. So there's the problem, these attempts to realism and storytelling ruining gameplay and fun. RDR2 was chock full of choices I can't stand, I didn't play it for more than an hour before I quit.
    Star Wars Squadrons is another perfect example of why I hate modern game design. That is a flying SW ship game without an outside-the-cockpit viewpoint, which is criminal to me. The absolute waste of time and resources and money put in only to make the game unplayable to anyone with experience in the previous Rogue games. I know when I'd not wanted, when the things I valued aren't valued anymore, and I've hit my limit. You kids keep playing whatever garbage they want to sell you, but I'm done. I have plenty of better games to play from older generations, this one has nothing to offer me.
