    Great video Ryan! I really enjoyed working with you on the renovation last year. You really have this process nailed down. Your renovation guide is really an amazing resource to anyone who is on the fence about transforming there lawn. As you said about having things ready to go for the renovation, the time is definitely now before supplies, materials, and equipment start flying off the shelves. Good luck to everyone who is renovating this year!

    Thank you for putting out this video when you did. Ryan I like to invite you to a challenge, see south of the border you all have plenty of tools and resources available for a great lawn, however up north a lot of the herbicides are banned and can’t be used for cosmetic purposes.

    There is a lot of talk about leveling with an additive method, with sand or soil, but what is the methodology for leveling the yard with a subtractive method. Another words we have some high spots in the middle of the yard and as well as at the edges next to the driveway. The high spots could range from 1" to 4-5". I would imagine the technique might be different depending on how much one wanted to remove. I don't recall seeing a video in your playlists that addresses, removing soil to gain a level yard, do you. Thanks a bunch for all the content that you have produced through the years - its both enjoyable and informative. We look forward to your input on removing the high points in one's yard. - and maybe its a lot simpler than I want to make it. LOL, got a shovel? Thanks, Gus

    Hey, Ryan Knorr. Love your channel but I need your opinion on something. You're one of the grass experts I'm going to ask about my situation and the hypothesis I've come up with. When they built our house 18 months ago, they sodded the lawn with KBG. Last fall, I overseeded with Jonathan Green Black Beauty which is a TTTF, KBG, and PRG mix. This year I've been having issues with my grass laying down or flopping over. I have to mow, rake it up so I can cut it, and mow it again. My research tells me that TTTF should be mowed at 3.5 to 4". Even when I mow at 3.5, it still lies flat. My research also tells me that KBG should be mowed at 2 to 2.5". I'm beginning to think that this grass that's falling over might be KBG and I should be mowing it at 2.5" or less. Just wondering how I could determine which grass it is that's lying down. Note: This is especially noticeable in the shaded part of the lawn. Thanks for any input you can provide on this dilemma.

But not sure if i should wait intil next spring or next fall to plant the new seed. what are your thoughts on this. Ryan I’m planning my Reno now. I was looking at your kbg/ tall fescue blend. Was curious with what percentage of each are present within the blend. Thanks.

    I am in Iowa with a KBG lawn. Last summer I had tile installed in my yard and the ground has settled 3-4 inches in some stretches where the tile line is. I was going to use dirt to level out those areas and then seed. Would you recommend seeding rye or a mix of rye and KBG? I would likely overseed the entire yard although the rest of the yard doesn’t really need it.

    Great video Ryan! Quick question. I smoked off my friends zoysia last weekend as we prepare to convert it to cool season turf. It’s mostly brown and yes, we are still throwing down water because I remember from an old video of yours lol.
    My question is, aside from mowing it down and dethatching, do we need to remove the zoysia or can we throw the seed right on top after we dethatch and aerate?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  Před 3 lety +1

      Hmm I've never done a renovation over top of zoysia. If it is for sure all dead then I wouldn't see it being any different than any other grass type

      @@ryanknorrlawncare I think so too. Mow the clipping super low. Dethatch. Aerate. Dump some dirt. Buy a Ryan Knorr leveler. Call it a day lol

      The specific product you use will have that on the label. Sometimes there's difference between them so check to be sure

    If killing grass off first do you still need to top dress or is that just bare spots.

    How do you get a nice lawn, with a pesticide band in your area ? I know its easy with weed kill products. But how do you do it naturally ?

    Ryan is any of the seed use in your current lawn actually your branded lawn seed or from Seed Super Store?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  Před 3 lety +1

      Every brand of seed is made up of different cultivars of which many of those change year to year depending on availability or as new cultivars come out so what's in my bag are some of the same cultivars used from sss in the past or from stover last year for the fescue in my backyard.

    Any of your seeds suitable for Northern California weather? All we have locally is what they call dwarf fescue and the sod at the big box stores are often broad leaf grass. I am looking for the finer blade grass but still durable to be walked on. I need to kill off a section that is infested with Bermuda runners.

      Anytime really but hot weather is hard on new seedlings so that is why we wait until closer to fall since the temps are starting to head in the right direction

      Depends on product and so many weather factors but I would just core aerate to break the layer open and seed whenever you are planning

      Rain collection, pay to have a water well put in, consider local/native ground covering vegetation instead, or start over with a water wise grass like TifTuf Bermuda.
