Storm dumps heaviest rain ever recorded in desert nation of UAE, flooding roads and Dubai's airport

  • Heavy thunderstorms lashed the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, dumping the heaviest rain ever recorded in the country in the span of hours as it flooded out portions of major highways and Dubai's international airport.
    The state-run WAM news agency called the rain “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That's before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States. The rains began late Monday, soaking the sands and roadways of Dubai with some 20 millimeters (0.79 inches) of rain, according to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport. The storms intensified around 9 a.m. local Tuesday and continued throughout the day, dumping more rain and hail onto the overwhelmed city.
    By the end of Tuesday, more than 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rainfall had soaked Dubai over 24 hours. An average year sees 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) of rain at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel and a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates.

    “The UAE carries out nearly 300 cloud-seeding missions each year, and the frequency can vary based on factors such as weather patterns, cloud availability, and climatic conditions,” an NCM official told Al Arabiya English, adding a “roughly” similar number of missions is likely to be carried out in 2024, depending on the availability of “amenable clouds.”

    • @ideeyes4054
      @ideeyes4054 Před měsícem

      I doubt cloud seeding can create torrential storms. The place is a desert because air currents just don't bring moisture there. You can't create storms with cloud seeding if there are no clouds. Maybe cloud seeding made it a bit worse but this is mostly due to just fluctuation in weather.

    • @MelissaR784
      @MelissaR784 Před měsícem

      Know it sounds crazy and I didn't believe it either, till I Googled it. It's been 100 year of advancement in weather modification and they can create clouds now.
      Found this with one Google search.
      "The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science - National Center of Meteorology (UAEREP-NCM) - the task force behind the country’s cloud-seeding program - told Al Arabiya English that the UAE, located in one of the hottest and most arid regions on earth, has been leading the effort to seed clouds and increase precipitation for more than 23 years. Meteorological experts are expected to carry out as many as 300 cloud-seeding missions across the United Arab Emirates in 2024 to encourage rainfall and tackle water scarcity."

      Cloud seeding didn’t cause this. Flooding in deserts is actually fairly common (as a once a year event). The biggest problem with cloud seeding is that it actually prevents flooding which means the water evaporates away.

    Has anyone made the connection of the worldwide record breaking rain to the depletion of the trees in the world's rainforests? Just one tree can hold thousands of gallons of water, and with our water holding trees disappearing. Where do you think all that treeless water is going to go? The oceans can only hold so much water and the clouds can only hold so much. This is getting serious. Australia just had a freaky incident where the ground cracked open in the middle of the desert and it was full of a lot of little fish. The guy reporting this pulled a bunch of tiny fish out of the water with his bare hands. It was remarkable! Go check out the CZcams video about it. 😳

I wanted to extend my flight, then I would still be at the airport in Dubai....OMG. I feel very sorry for everyone, hopefully the rainwater will be collected well. Then Dubai can have fewer cloud inoculations this year.

    Cloud seeding is a type of weather modification that aims to change the amount or type of precipitation, mitigate hail or disperse fog. The usual objective is to increase rain or snow, either for its own sake or to prevent precipitation from occurring in days afterward.

    It was mentioned in Quran 1400 years ago....
    Their example is like the one who ignited a fire, and when it illuminated his surroundings, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness (so) they do not see (they are unable to see).
    صُمٌّۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُوْنَ ۙ
    Deaf, dumb (silent), blind, they will not return (they do not process any form of communication, so they will not understand).
    Or, like the rain falling from the sky in darkness, with thunder and lightning, they put their fingers in their ears from the danger of death by the lightning strike. Allah has surrounded the ungrateful.
    The lightning streak almost dazzles the eyes (the intensity of lightning temporarily obstructs vision). When it illuminates for them, they walk in it and stop when darkness falls over them. If Allah wanted, certainly He could have taken away their hearing and eyesight. Allah is indeed in control of everything.
