  • 6 Things You Should Know About Dexcom G6. I love my Dexcom G6 so here is 6 things you should know about Dexcom G6
    0:41 1. Data Smoothing
    2:47 2. 'Automatic Temporary Shutdown'
3:24 3. No Calibration but you can still Calibrate Dexcom G6
    3:46 4. Dexcom G6 Transmitter is tiny
4:13 5. Dexcom G6 sensor can be extended beyond 10 Days
6:05 6. Sensor Applicator is Great
I hope you enjoyed those 6 things.
As always, here are some references:
    1. Data Smoothing
Official Statement from Dexcom to Nerdabetic:
"Data smoothing is a new feature, where the 3 most recent readings are evaluated and data smoothed for a smoother trend graph"
Mentioned in Dexcom G6 User Guide on page 115.
" The app and receiver SMOOTH ALL but your current G6 reading on your trend graph so that you can clearly see where your glucose is heading. It is expected for there to be some differences between the G6 reading you saw in real time (in the circle above the graph) and the G6 readings you see in the past on your graph (black dots)"
UK Dexcom G6 Guide Link: s3-us-west-2.a...
Dexcom also explains Data Smoothing in Developer Page:
    developer.dexc...
    ( scroll down )
    2. "Automatic Temporary Shutdown"
Mentioned in Dexcom G6 Guide at Page 227.
"Wait up to 3 hours while the system fixes itself. If not corrected after 3 hours, contact Technical Support"
    3. No Calibration but you can still Calibrate Dexcom G6
    That is just a feature.
    4. Dexcom G6 Transmitter is tiny
That is just my opinion but a lot of G6 users agree.
    5. Dexcom G6 sensor can be extended beyond 10 Days
Link to THE ONE THE ONLY KATIES BLOG WITH Instructions on how to extend G6 Sensor :
    seemycgm.com/20...
Set up Dexcom Share using instructions on Page 189 of Dexcom G6 Guide. Link to User Guide in Point 1.
    6. Sensor Applicator is Great
I JUST LOVE IT. And so happy that Dexcom is working on Inserter Recycling Programme.

10 (almost 11) years into the darn “life” & just TODAY!!! I got the D6!!! I can’t ever remember being this excited for something diabetic related. I am soooo skinny right now bc my sugars have been.. out of control the past 6 months 😓. I dropped 30lbs last 3months (was already a tall ass walking stick prior to the weight loss) I think my ketones were hella funky & my a1c 8.5 last week. shit was horrible & I don’t ever wanna go back there😳I completely forgot ur handle but I was boasting your info in the office to the nutritionist lol well doc my YT connect said this & that sooo😆 props on the dedication! I wish I could of gotten this earlier but you know what it’s a good day, my optimism is showing it’s head again! & I KNOW this will help me find a way to live “normal” again!! Between the weight loss, emotions being absolutely HAYWIRE (yell, cry, break things when I’m angry😶) & these strange uncomfortable pains in my leg, abdomen & arm. They were all compounding each other to make my life hell recently. So all that pushed me to say it’s time I actually walk the walk instead of “I will do it.. soon” (actions speak louder then words dude how many more years or physical problems is it gunna take!?!) I have sooo many questions about this thing lol (like 1st 🚿 that I’m about to take) & only know maybe 2 diabetics lol neither of which I’m in contact w/like that to ask. So I’m here & im ready to watch, read & absorb! I almost missed the appointment today too, was about to start crying on the side of the road 🤦‍♂️ (I never emotional like this until recently) but pushed through & eventually found them in the maze that is basically a medical city w/building EVERYWHERE.. but she saw me anyway 15 min late to my 1st appointment (ill have 2finish the paperwork next time lol) I’m so gitty right now my bad for ranting😃 thank u 4present & future info!! Priceless!!

I have been using omni pod for my insulin delivery for the past 7 years and have just started using the dexcom g6. I hope the applicator can become recycled soon because I feel it is such a waste of material. I think it would cool if they could make it reusable by attaching a new sensor to it each time.

You should try Keto! It is now beginning to replace Insulin Therapy for Diabetes management in many progressive Clinics to heal and restore the Pancreas, eliminating the need for these devices and expensive treatments. Still, these devices are very beneficial for comparing how Carb-heavy (or Carb only) meals affect Blood Sugar levels vs Protein-heavy (or Fatty Protein only) meals.
In 2019, the *American Diabetes Association* published a Report that acknowledges the consumption of Higher Protein Meals led to “improvements in weight, fasting glucose, and insulin requirements,” and that replacing Carbohydrates with Fats “demonstrated greater improvements in glycemia and certain CVD [Heart Disease] risk factors (serum HDL cholesterol [HDL-C] and triglycerides) compared with lower fat diets.” Full Study below.
Check out the work this lab is doing with Diet and Diabetic patients, and of course, only attempt this with Professional supervision if you are Diabetic. By the way, great review. Thanks for the info!

*Nutrition Therapy for Adults With Diabetes or Prediabetes: A Consensus Report*
      care.diabetesjournals.org/content/42/5/731
      In the “Macronutrient” section
      *Carbohydrates*
“The amount of carbohydrate intake required for optimal health in humans is unknown. Although the recommended dietary allowance for carbohydrate … is 130 g/day ... this energy requirement can be fulfilled by the body’s metabolic processes, which include glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis ... and/or ketogenesis in the setting of very low dietary carbohydrate intake (49).” ie the body can make all of the sugar it needs without Carbohydrates.
      *Protein*
“A 12-week study comparing 30% vs. 15% energy from protein noted improvements in weight, fasting glucose, and insulin requirements in the group that consumed 30% energy from protein (61).”
      *Fat*
“Eating patterns that replace certain carbohydrate foods with those higher in total fat, however, have demonstrated greater improvements in glycemia and certain CVD [Heart Disease] risk factors (serum HDL cholesterol [HDL-C] and triglycerides) compared with lower fat diets.” ie Fat protects the Heart!
      *Cholesterol*
“Although the DGA concluded that available evidence does not support the recommendation to limit dietary cholesterol for the general population, exact recommendations for dietary cholesterol for other populations, such as people with diabetes, are not as clear (8).”

Thank you for all your videos Kamil! You have no idea how your videos have changed my 37 year battle with type 1. I wish I could hug you! :) Two questions...1. How are you liking the G6 on the inside of your arm compared to the outside? 2. Have you had many temporary auto shutdowns for 3 hours? I'm now using Spike, Loop and Nightscout and, thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way to the #WeAreNotWaiting movement, my bg's have been AMAZING! :x

I have used the Dexcom G6 system now for a year. I have enough sensors left to use it for 3 more months. Then I plan to discontinue using it. The system is good, however, there is a glaring problem with false lows I have been having. I get awoken in the middle of the night with 50s and 40s only to do a finger stick and see my readings are closer to 100. This is NOT just a single sensor issue, because it happens during at least half of my 10-day sessions. I was OK with it until the other day when my receiver slipped out of my pocket. After almost 4 days I recovered it, I can't get totally into it here, but I can't carry 2 devices easily in my pocket. Not being able to use the Dexcom app was the straw that broke the back. I contacted my provider and notified her I was no longer planning to use Dexcom. I did like the product overall. Hopefully, at a later date, Dexcom will do something about this app problem. Until then I will do finger sticks again. Dexcom is a great system. I would be lying if I said otherwise. I'm hoping as more and more people start to use it Dexcom does something about that app. The average person can't afford a $1000 apple phone. I can't afford any of the phones listed on the Dexcom website.

I couldn't be less happy about the "beautiful new applicator". Having to throw out this garbage every ten days is distressing. We have so much garbage related to our pumps, now having to throw away something that's got at least three times the plastic garbage is very upsetting. Especially when I think of how many other T1D's are doing the same thing now that they have gotten rid of the other applicator. It is not recyclable because of the giant needle inside.

Thanks, Kamil, just returned to have a look at the G6 that may not be available in France yet! The reason is my Libré has gone crazy today Sunday when the pharmacy is shut-grrr. Low BS warnings from Glimp on my smartwatch & Freestyle Librelink now says 'try again in 10 minutes'-interesting to see that G6 shuts of for 3 hrs so you know where you stand. Maybe talk to Dexcom UK to see if I can subscribe from France. Thanks again for all your videos & I hope your exams went well. Hitherto getting on great with my Omnipod & Fiasp, & the Libré+MM+smartwatch Glimp system. All the best, Roger Waldram

G6 works great when I can get them and pay the over price cost. Check out the latest video on CNBC with the Dexcom CEO who straight out said they are reducing costs so they can make more money. My insurance pay 70% for sensors so my 30% is $105 a month. Transmitters are $365 at 30% out of pocket. Once again a big medical company with outrageous prices. Customer service sucks. It is almost impossible to talk with someone directly from the company. No matter what number you call you will end up connected to an out of USA call center. These people try the best they can, but Dexcom has so many policies that it takes for ever for them to get back with me if there is an order issue. When the time comes for a renewal Prescription it take over 2 weeks to get this completed. Right now I am waiting on sensors for almost two weeks without an explanation of why I have not received them. I received a message two days ago so someone wanting to talk to me about this but I cannot reach them and they are not calling me back.

Nice video. I used the G4 and G5 but my Dr wanted me to move to the Medtronic 670G with sensors and take advantage of the two working in harmony. It has been anything but harmonious for me. I am pricking my fingers about SEVEN times a day. In EIGHT months I have had 10 failed sensors. They lasted less than five days and they never last more than seven days. I am aching to move back to Dexcom but will have to forgo the "auto "mode. What pump are you using that your phone can help you with your basil? Is it normal for you to achieve 20+ days on a sensor? Any issues such as soreness or itching? Do you have a system for extending wear time? Thank you for taking time to educate and share.

Hi!! So I'm new to the CGM world but have had t1d for 42 yrs (I'm 49). I received my dexcom g6 Saturday along with the t-slim insulin pump. Already using the dexcom but feel I need training in the pump. ANYWAY, my question is....do you need an app to data share with docs and to see your previous results? I have a LG phone that isn't compatible with the dexcom app well except for clarity but it won't download that either. I am frustrated that i can't access the old readings from the receiver!! Any advice??

Thank you for your nice videos. I’d like to ask you about the accuracy of the results compared to lab results. Home bg meters measure the whole blood. CGM measures interstitial blood. Labs measure plasma blood. So, how accurate are CGM results compared to a lab taking since the needle takes samples from another compartment? Have you checked your hba1c in a lab? Thank you!

    • @MrThumper1440
      @MrThumper1440 Před 2 lety

By law through the FDA, if I remember correctly, a glucose meter only has to be within 20% of actual (plasma)glucose. To further extend their inaccuracy, when a meter(or cgm) is reading results from someone that is high, they become even more inaccurate.
That being said, I will take my cgm(Dexcom or freestyle)over any other current means of testing. Being in your target range and adjusting your insulin according to trends and A1C are pretty reliable IMHO.

Thanks for this video. I just started using the G6, my first CGM, it's a game changer. I have an iWatch (series 2) but the G6 doesn't communicate directly with it. I know Descom have been promising direct connection, no need of having the phone nearby. Do you have any information about this? Thanks!

well so NO if by direct you mean without your phone. You still need your phone. But Dexcom values from the phone can also be displayed on the watch with Dexcom G6 watch app and watch complication. but you need your phone (currently)

I have a G6 and it really is great. I have extended its use passed the 10 days and it works but it seems to be inconsistent in how long it will work passed that mark. I’ve had it work for about a month or only about 15 days before it became inaccurate. Any suggestions on keeping it accurate for longer?

The easiest way is to pry the battery out of the sensor and then stick in back in after 10 minutes or so.
