We, Indonesian, don't give a slime about world politics. We're one of few founding members of non-alignment movement. We are getting closer to China (and in some areas with Russia, too) simply because they offer the best deals. China, for an example, never mentioned any political move in any of their investment. The terms and conditions are clear, they lend us X amount of money and we shall return it (of course with interest) in Y years. Another example is when we chose to buy weapon systems from Russia, the numbers are clear. Compare this with what the US-fucken-A offered. No, it's not and never was an offer, but threats. F that. So yeah, it's purely business. You can take your "democracy" elsewhere, we're not buying them anymore.
Exactly...having equidistance from all countries is a good thing. Why get messed up between US vs China competition. Non alignment policy has continued and will become a key point in saving Indonesia from US-China BS competition.
I am from India...India used to keep equidistance from everyone. Although we relied more on Russia for our weapon systems...but kept equidistance from all countries...but this Current govt has now sided with America🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ despite knowing that America can't be Trusted. The western media is so bias, when a country sign a agreement with China or USA, they immediately say it's pro-China or pro-USA.
the reason why Indonesia choose China to build it's raileay over Japan is because China offered them a Loan which is favourable, while Japan could not. so in terms of budget, it makes sense to choose China and China has a lot of expertise in railway also having thousands of miles of railway in their country also.

For highspeed train project, Indonesia doesn't get loan from China. It is fund by China. But due to covid, the budget has gone up n Indonesia has no other choice than to inject its capital. The other things that make Indonesia chosed China over Japan, price is cheaper and China offer transfer of tech while Japan refuse.
Don't forget CIA got rid of Sukarno in the 60s. CIA got rid of Australian government in the early 70s because they wanted to have strong ties with Asia and in particular Indonesia. Basically if not fir the USA, Australians would all know how to speak Bahasa. I'm Australian living in East Indonesia, NTT Flores. It's so much more relaxed here.

When countries have good leadership, knowledge and wisdom, they are bound to prosper, harmonious and give a better future for its people. And when countries have bad leaders, leaders with unmerited positions of power, bigoted views of religion or ideologies leading to riots, terrorism and wars, the country and its people are forever enslaved by others, disunited and a bleak future. The difference between Indonesia and India per say is that Indonesia is able to dichotomise economy and geopolitics. Meaning the geopolitical clashes of the SCS will rarely ever influence or spillover to the trade meeting rooms. As a developing country Indonesia knows that it doesn't have the luxury to choose who can and can't trade with them, knowing that every opportunity is a blessing, which is the same pragmatic steps China took back in the 80s/90s, and look where China is now. The good thing about this dichotomy is that Indonesia can have both slice of the cakes, where they enjoy great economic leveraging from China as well as standing up against China in the SCS.

The topic here is why China choose Indonesia, not the other way round. Some pride may get wounded here but this is the topic. The Chinese did not choose Indonesia. China is willing to work with anyone that is willing to work with them. The Chinese work with the Australian for 30 year helping them to breeze through every world recession until the Aussies decide to stab them in the back. China know that inclusiveness is the key and Indonesia is no exception. China knows that in order to do business one has to be open to everyone. Also they manufactured electric Nickel car battery 🔋 ... because Indonesia 🇮🇩 are the biggest producer of Nickels in the world. In this emissions era with electric car and higher fuel gas prices??... you bet... So.. no wonder so many multimillion dollars companies around the world want to invest their money in Indonesia 🇮🇩 especially companies from China.
That's why Indonesia 🇮🇩 government has a new law to embrace the investment flow by making an Omnibus Law. Which is by some are still controversial.
With massive boom infrastructures, warm weather year long, beautiful natural sandy beaches, renewable natural resources, abundant fish, surrounded by mountains, delicious food and friendly culture... it will attract more businesses and investment opportunities to Indonesia 🇮🇩...
