Hi Jayda, I followed along with your video for your cowl infinity scarf but I must be doing something wrong as I ran out of yarn using 113 g skein plus some left over from a matching hat so I started another cowl using a 142 g skein and ran out of that. They both measure 7 inches high, 8 rows and 14 inches laid flat left to right . I followed your instructions stitch for stitch. Mine look just like yours but I ran out of yarn. I also would like to say I am addicted to your videos. You are an excellent instructor and a breath of fresh air. I'm in Wisconsin so I also know the cold weather. Please continue with your wonderful videos. You've already taught me so much. Made your perfect fit hat and it fits perfectly! Your camera man does excellent work. Makes a world of difference. Or at least, I finished the last possible full row and then fastened off. I used a 10mm hook with the size 5 bulky yarn - but all of us have different stitch tension and this can have a big effect on the overall use of our yarn.

I did your trick on every other row so back seam blended in really well. Christmas presents for granddaughters so hope they like them.
Your tutorials are Soooo easy to follow, especially since you don't make it sound very over complicated. Also I'm a bit younger and even I can understand what you're talking about. I highly recommend your channel to anybody, be they young or old.

I also like your techniques like how you hold your hook and your way of connecting rows. It is great to have the pattern to go along with the video and I can work having both tabs open. I did a neck collar for my 5 yr old grandson using a bulky 6 ply yarn with a 5mm crochet hook and 60 chains. It turned out perfectly! So hats off to you for an excellent job. Cool l love easy chunky cowls that uses big hooks. Sometimes I prefer to use a Q hook or 15mm for an even more drape although it might use a little more yarn. I just love your show👍
Hi Jeanna, the bigger the hook, the bigger the stitch and in this case, definitely more drape :) You're right, however, you'll need more yarn to get something about the same depth :)

Hi Anne! That first row of chains and even single crochet can be a little twisty! It sometimes helps to make your chained foundation row, then lay it down on your work surface and flatten it out, then join your ring and just focus on 1 chain at a time...take the odd break to lay it flat again :)

+Wendell Monster :) If you have a CZcams account you have an everything Google account :) You can select Google+ from the list of google applications (near the top of your page ) and at the top of your 'feed' you'll have the option to upload a comment, photo, gallery, etc. (just like the other socials). From there, you can select a picture to upload and in the comment section you can tag me :) It's my favorite what to swap photos around!
Instead of going round and round, if you turn at the end of each round and go in the other direction, that will also eliminate the dreaded diagonal seam.

Hi Linda, if you're going to use size 4 medium weight yarn, you might want to hold 2 or 3 strands together with the big hook and that will bring it up to the size of the really bulky yarn we used in this tutorial 😊

I actually found a big, fat P hook in my stash if hooks... I have no idea of where it came from.,, I believe it is an old Susan Bates Lucite Hook... Inused to use those Lucite hooks a lot. There is a donation CAL going on that I want to crochet fit. Thus cielmus perfect. Thanks!
Hi Mela, you can choose the yarn and hook size you want to use for a child's cowl (the same as we've used here is fine too) and then measure the circumference of their head. Chain a foundation row that is a few inches longer than this measurement and begin the project as shown :)

Instead of doing these zigzag alternating row joins, can you just keep crocheting straight over the join in continuous rounds with no join at all? Just wondering because that is used with a hat pattern that I saw recently and it looks very nice also.

I kinda remembered how to do it, but my starting corner was giving me a hard time. That's when I found your videos. I love them. You are very detailed & take your time where I can understand it. I finished my first baby blanket with multiple colors with your help, only took a month on and off. I'm wanting to make some infinity scarfs. I watched the Cowl infinity Scarf & it doesn't look like the kind my mom wears from the store, hers has a twist & not as wide. I'm new @ this. What's the difference & do you have a video that is just an infinity scarf? :)
+Neke Bolling Hi Neke! Welcome back to Crochet! :) The term "infinity" in regards to a scarf means it goes around in a circle with no end. Unlike a regular scarf that has two ends to it. This is the first infinity scarf tutorial I've put up but I'll probably be doing more! It sounds like the scarf your mom has is a really looooooong infinity scarf that requires the wearer to wrap it around their head (by twisting it, like a long necklace) in order to shorten it up enough that it wraps around their neck. Those are super cozy too! But they definitely require more than a single ball of yarn...especially if you're going to use the cozy, bulky type.

Fabulous video! I'm just learning how to crochet so I'm making this up in a practice 20 chain piece. My question: At 6:37 the video says: ‘You’re going to take your hook and join your entire row, so put your hook through your first chain and slip stitch,” but I can’t see, is the hook going under 1 thread or 2 threads as it goes through the first chain?
Hi Cynthia, you want to use whatever part of that top chain that you can get your hook into. Whether it's the top loop, or 2 loops, it's not terribly important with this project :)

+Wendell Monster :) If you have a CZcams account you have an everything Google account :) You can select Google+ from the list of google applications (near the top of your page ) and at the top of your 'feed' you'll have the option to upload a comment, photo, gallery, etc. (just like the other socials). From there, you can select a picture to upload and in the comment section you can tag me :) It's my favorite what to swap photos around!
Instead of going round and round, if you turn at the end of each round and go in the other direction, that will also eliminate the dreaded diagonal seam.
Great tip! Luckily, if you're using the fluffy yarn, the reverse of the stitch isn't as noticeable either :)

Hi Linda, if you're going to use size 4 medium weight yarn, you might want to hold 2 or 3 strands together with the big hook and that will bring it up to the size of the really bulky yarn we used in this tutorial 😊

I actually found a big, fat P hook in my stash if hooks... I have no idea of where it came from.,, I believe it is an old Susan Bates Lucite Hook... Inused to use those Lucite hooks a lot.

How would you do a cowl for a 3year old and a 7year old I am a crocheted just need to know how many stitches you would use and what size hok
Hi Mela, you can choose the yarn and hook size you want to use for a child's cowl (the same as we've used here is fine too) and then measure the circumference of their head. Chain a foundation row that is a few inches longer than this measurement and begin the project as shown :)

Instead of doing these zigzag alternating row joins, can you just keep crocheting straight over the join in continuous rounds with no join at all? Just wondering because that is used with a hat pattern that I saw recently and it looks very nice also.
Hi Danette, that works if you're using sc, hdc tends to give you an obvious "jog" where the rows change :)
Hi Jayda! Sorry so long!! I was taught how to make dish clothes 4 years ago(only crocheted for a short time). So almost 4 years later I decided to give another go. I kinda remembered how to do it, but my starting corner was giving me a hard time. That's when I found your videos. I love them. You are very detailed & take your time where I can understand it. I finished my first baby blanket with multiple colors with your help, only took a month on and off. I'm wanting to make some infinity scarfs. I watched the Cowl infinity Scarf & it doesn't look like the kind my mom wears from the store, hers has a twist & not as wide. I'm new @ this. What's the difference & do you have a video that is just an infinity scarf? :)
+Neke Bolling Hi Neke! Welcome back to Crochet! :) The term "infinity" in regards to a scarf means it goes around in a circle with no end. Unlike a regular scarf that has two ends to it. This is the first infinity scarf tutorial I've put up but I'll probably be doing more! It sounds like the scarf your mom has is a really looooooong infinity scarf that requires the wearer to wrap it around their head (by twisting it, like a long necklace) in order to shorten it up enough that it wraps around their neck. Those are super cozy too! But they definitely require more than a single ball of yarn...especially if you're going to use the cozy, bulky type.

Fabulous video! I'm just learning how to crochet so I'm making this up in a practice 20 chain piece. My question: At 6:37 the video says: ‘You’re going to take your hook and join your entire row, so put your hook through your first chain and slip stitch,” but I can’t see, is the hook going under 1 thread or 2 threads as it goes through the first chain?
Hi Cynthia, you want to use whatever part of that top chain that you can get your hook into. Whether it's the top loop, or 2 loops, it's not terribly important with this project :)
