When I first heard this I was just fired as a fall guy 2 month’s before and it took that long for unemployment so I got evicted. So .. now in the 30 pack a day club after I had to move in with my in-laws to their basement . My wife was f-ing off and that was going downhill. Pops was complaining bc I played this on repeat for like 3 days. But he couldn’t hear it- just really the base. They came down to “intervene” and we had this long talk about their daughter’s infidelity and how she’s pregnant and it’s not mine and basically that I wanted to blow my head off. They were like this is that REM song … 😂 and they loved it. They just said turn the bass down and they’ll understand the divorce etc. I think about the vicarious and ironic deliverance that the song has and the niche situations that connect generational gap through covers. I can’t say it was directly responsible for a narrative change but its very kick-ass existence and musical accuracy certainly indirectly contributed to an otherwise far more awkward and difficult communication experience.
