Yeah. I don't know why, though. "Typing" on virtual keyboards doesn't trigger the same emotion. So it must be the physical sensation and/or sound.

      This video is great!
Before I saw this video I really wanted to get better at typing and so I went on Keybr but 10 finger typing was really really hard for me (I just got a keyboard that day and practiced a few hours on a laptop before) (so basically i was a total beginner) . Then I watched this video and found out that there are websites that teach you 10 finger typing. I chose typing club and spent 1 and half hours on it and now I am pretty confident with my home grip letters .Hopefully I will progress enough one day to have a 100+ wpm typing speed like you. Thanks again 🙏

super important tip: let your fingers be relaxed. I've been practicing for only a week, doing not more than 10 tests a day, and I found out that in the beginning I would stay very concentrated and that would give me cramps immediately, especially because I just focused on speed rather than correct finger positioning. If you allow your fingers to relax a bit, the speed will naturally improve over time. personally, I went from 30 to 53 WPM and this really helped!

Here's how I was able to improve from 70 to personal best of 143:
    - Using laptop/short travel keyboards. Probably my main factor.
    - Knowing what to type and how to spell it as fast as you can read it
    - Reading ahead when typing
    - Getting comfortable/used with a specific keyboard layout

For me, somehow, taking notes during class is completely different from practicing with something like typeracer. I have habituated into lots of typing errors because the pressure on speed is super high in class and my attention is divided because I need to listen and type at the same time. While writing, I often find myself with the thoughts already at the next word and end up inserting letters of the new word into the position I was writing on. Ultimately, this leads me to not really register what my fingers are typing and thus I end up deleting the majority of my written words. At the moment I'm figuring out, how I can correct this habit again. What also throws me off completely when I have to navigate around with the arrow keys in the document

    going to try this.
    Current WPM 60-70 on 10FastFingers
    Current WPM 30-40 on Typeracer
Goal will be 100WPM by a week.
    Current Day: 14 October
    Deadline: 21 October
    Will do an Update.
    Update.
    I hit 120wps.
    average 100-110 on 10FF
    average 90-100 on Typeracer
however, I spent a significant amount of time focusing on improving my typing speed. I skipped social events, prioritized speed training over actually doing assignments, and overall had improvement on my mind whenever awake.
my advice to anyone is that this video is kinda shit and doesn't really go into how to practice typing and expectations.
within a week the average person could probably hit 10 extra WPS. however if you sink in enough time that I did, you should expect a steady 10-15wps improvement daily.
Here are my OPINIONS and advice.
don't switch keyboards that will fuck up your muscle memory.
actually, focus on improvement, and ACTUALLY put your mind to improvement. don't just go through the motions not really trying and just swinging by.
when typing it shouldn't feel like an enormous physical effort. when typing fast it should feel fluid and smooth. don't hyperfocus on each word rather smoothly and speedily flow through each word and try to progressively go faster and faster.
before going for speed improvement you should be able to type blindfolded and remember the location of every single key. if you can get a friend or something to read out words for you and close your eyes trying to type all the words read out and be able to have an accuracy of 90-100% than you can start to focus completely on speed and forget about things like KeyBr trying to learn how to touch-type.
try joining the 10FastFinger's discord server and socialize with the community. ask for advice and learn about different shortcuts and tips that some of the fastest typers know.
also, watch penguifys video on the switch to COLEMACK from QWERTY. it may not touch on how to actually improve but it's a great watch on what to expect while practicing and is an interesting and enjoyable watch on typing and it helps your understanding of what to actually expect from typing.
    to summarize everything up.
anyone trying to learn how to type faster for what ever reasons, keep going and don't give up. there will be days where you just hit walls and feel like your typing slower and de-progressing. stop and evaluate what the actual problem is and slow things down to try and adjust and adapt. just like any skill, your rate of progression will slowly decrease after reaching a certain point. just because you weren't progressing as fast as you were a few days ago doesn't mean always mean you turned worst.
keep trying and progressing and you will hit your goals. keep patient and have your head up.

I found that I had to correct my bad habits (too much index finger usage and incorrect home row) and that now I am confused on where to stick to a strict equation like execution for every word, as memorized from muscle memory, or to be able to switch what fingers press any specific key. (Also I've noticed some difficulties have risen and faded quite quickly like the "g and y" key).
Also, I feel like when I practice typing now, I introduce new techniques as well to work into my "repertoire" of tricks. Like using multiple fingers for repeated keys and switching positions of the hands and fingers (and how they move in relation to each other) slightly in response to each unique event (but requires really solid understanding of where the keys are).
And to follow up with my last point, that's one of the main things I am working on. When I can start recalling exactly where a specific key is, I can use my baseline ability and morph my style into a really adapted and focused home row.

i'm gonna go through each "opinions" and comment through them, as a 130wpm typer on monkeytype.com 60 seconds 250 words
      1. what do you mean by "switch keyboards"? if you mean layout, absolutely. if you mean the keyboard itself... you have issues
i know that "preferences" exist but if you switch from low profile keyboard to high profile keyboard, and type at 20wpm, then you need to fix that. the keyboard itself should not be the thing slowing you down
      2. in the second sentence, it just means typing casually and carefreely.
you made good points, but i feel like "focus on improvement" feels too vague. perhaps saying "focus on accuracy" is a bit better
      4. good statement, although you may not need to completely type blindfolded, you just have to remember that qwerty keyboard has qwertyuiopasdfghjkl;zxcvbnm,./
if you don't, do it now
      6. i cringed on this "opinion". first off, his name is pinguefy, second, he switches to workman, not colemak. i don't think his videos will help much because some people might be mistakenly led to switching layouts, when they don't even need to.
only switch layouts for ergonomic purposes, NOT FOR SPEED. you will easily be able to find people typing 200wpm with qwerty anyways, so
probably also good to mention that i don't use qwerty, but i use minimak. DO NOT SWITCH IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO, but here's information for the layout: www.minimak.com
      7. i second the summary
basically, progress is not linear, so don't expect much if you slow down on improving and whatnot

I shifted from 60 to around 80 sometimes 90 when paragraphs are easy and short, but key thing here I found once I was comfortable with small letters I didn't shifted my focus on practicing Capital letters which I still struggle with, I started enjoying it but never really shifting, shifting would really improve the speed but I wouldn't say in a week, I had practiced everyday for 30 minutes for around 3 months I guess, during that time I mostly stayed in comfort level zone, spent much time on keybr and less time on typingracer which included capital letters, grammar, letters. If you constantly pay attention to your mistakes while typing and try to analyze which is your weak part where you make most mistakes, and shift to discomfort as your comfort level expands, you would see great improvements during every typing session.

This can depend on how you practice typing. If you only practice on 10fastfingers, then that's not such a good practice way. It's good for starters in my opinion since it helps you get better at typing words, but it doesn't encourage accuracy, since you don't have to press backspace when you mistype a word. Typeracer, nitro type are 2 sites I know of that do courage you to type more precisely, and is, in general, more effective, since you have to make actual sentences which improves your true WPM. I recommend watching its johns video on how to get 200WPM.

    • @NotesWithRen
      @NotesWithRen  Před 3 lety +1

Hi Aman! Thanks for the question! I would say to try using sites that incorporate punctuation marks and numbers into their practice sessions. Also, some training sites actually allow you to customize the characters that appear to you, so you could add those in! Hope that helps :) Best of luck reaching your goal!

Awesome video, but "100 WPM in a week" is a pretty bold claim. I've been typing for more than a year, and I'm still around 90-100 WPM. I think, if a person can learn touch-typing in a week and use it consistently, that's already an achievement. Also, websites you mentioned are great. I'm @demicuz on KeyHero ;)
    .
If someone is interested, a few tips of mine:
    * Accuracy over speed. Always. For some time focusing on speed blocked my improvement
    * If you're tired - rest. For me even typing for 10 mins can be exhausting if I do it full-speed
    * Looking the words ahead is really important (as mentioned in the video)
    .
And also I'm using Colemak mod-DH instead of QWERTY. One big downside - on other devices you'll have to move back to QWERTY (unless you have a super-custom separate keyboard, like ErgoDox), but in my experience switching between these two is not that hard (I also touch-type on QWERTY). Another issue is all key combinations are messed up (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc.), but I've fixed it with AutoHotKey and it works well.

Hello! Thanks so much for commenting! I’m sure everyone would love to see your progress, so please do update us on that! Also, try to focus on touch typing (without looking down at your hands) and start from the websites I mentioned in this video, since they teach you how to place your hands and you can use all 10 of your fingers :) Finger placement is extremely important, so start learning from the home row and go from there! Another tip is to keep yourself accountable- like posting comments so that others can make sure you’re putting in your work! Or, you can share this video with your friends and family and work on improving together to make sure everyone is doing their job! Looking forward to seeing your updates :) Best of luck!
