Upon reviewing your video again I noticed you mention that you thought your kit was made in the USA.While we do make all the same components in the USA if purchased as the value kit Deluxe Combo, It is imported.
I tried real hard to keep everything made in the USA. I looked for at least a year trying to find another company to supplement our USA production, I found that most USA manufacturers have specialized, sometimes requiring expensive certifications. I've Been laughed out of offices after saying my cost budget. Most said they couldn't even make stoves for what we were charging retail. My current USA producer (of ten yrs) is great but they can only make so many stoves, We regularly have back orders and waiting lists for our USA made products. Had I not resorted to supplementing production overseas my USA company would have stayed very small and may have even gone under. Firebox Outdoors LLC. Employees five full-time staff, The USA company making our stoves employees 20 people. Another USA company who making parts for us employees more than 50 people. I hire USA-based engineers, attorneys, financial firms ect. to run my business. I am a USA innovator marketing my products internationally, bringing business to the USA. Firebox is a contributing part of the USA economy. I hope someday I can bring all manufacturing in house here in USA.
The reason I go into this much detail is mostly for those who judge based on limited information, I want those who focus on the fact that I import products to know that there is a bigger picture. I'm a patriotic American who works hard to do right by my great country. High volume low cost production is largely unavailable in the USA.

Kind of makes you think, "why do I need more than the two sizes of Fire Box Stoves?" doesn't it? I have one of each, both in stainless steel. If I had to carry them I might have gone with the titanium, but I kayak and car camp, so the weight is not a problem. And to answer your question, yes it's worth it!

Ernie, I was critical of your review of latest Jetboil Stove. I did not like the fact that Jetboil gave so many youtubers stoves and then asked them to give a quick review. You surely redeemed yourself with this review.
I appreciate your COMPLETELY UNBIASED comments. Years ago I purchased a Firebox Nano and have used many many times in all types of situations an conditions. Personally I will never buy the "Puzzle" type stove that you have to fiddle with by inserting tab A into slot C while hold part B with ice cold fingers. Firebox designs and sells quality FOLDING stoves that a klutz like me can have up and burning in no time. After watching your review I am definitely purchasing this stove. Thank you for a great, honest, unbiased review. I will never judge you again.

Steve, the owner and designer, is a solid guy. Although I’ve never met him he’s responded to any questions I’ve ever had, makes some of the best videos using his products, and seems to be a genuinely awesome guy that enjoys using his products in the environments they were made for. Thanks for the great review and content. His stuff is solid and should last a really long time if taken care of. I own two original 5” fire boxes, the titanium nano, and a lot of his accessories. You can’t go wrong with the billy cans with his mods. While he doesn’t make them he does sell them and they are built like the rest of his stuff. Can’t recommend his products enough.

Nothing brings people together like cooking over a wood fire. I love breaking out the Firebox with friends to cook a meal, roast some mallows, or sometimes we just use it as a tiny fire pit. I think every young person with a taste for the outdoors should be gifted one of these early on so they can learn how great food tastes over an open flame. Also, Firebox Steve has the chillest outdoors channel on YouToob.

I’ve said this before, but the Firebox stoves are elegant solutions. I’m old school and have no issue with a 2 - 3/4 pound stove given the weight I used to carry when I had a SVEA 123 and a couple bottles of fuel. Of course, if I had been given a choice of Ti at the time I bought, I would have been tempted. As is, when I’m getting towards my personal limit, I just swap for the Nano, which does fine most of the time. Smaller fire requires you watch it a bit more, but that’s not an issue for me. The Nano works.

  • @GrumpyGrunt
    @GrumpyGrunt Před 3 lety +9

Before I even start watching: YES! Definitely worth the price of admission.
I like using it even more than my Nano, but the Nano goes outdoors most often due to weight and packability. I have gotten to the point I use the 5"G2 more in my back yard than I do my charcoal grill though. I look forward to getting the Ti version someday, so I will be more likely take it out into the woods more often. Thanks for the review, Ernie. Stay well.

After finding out what it was, my order was near instantaneous, and I've got to say, it's one of my favorite pieces of gear of all time. Sure it's a little heavy compared to other stoves, but my gosh what a solid, well thought out work horse. This is the one stove I would take in every imaginable scenario where fire is permitted.

I'll be honest, Earnie; I have carefully watched your stove videos and I have put together what I consider is the perfect stove "system". I have the 5" Firebox, the FB Nano, and the Soto Windmaster gas stove. With that combination, I can do just about anything I want and with just about any fuel source. What is not to like? I use the SS versions for two reasons, 1) I think the SS is a more robust material and less likely to break, and 2) I don't give a hill of beans about weight issues. If I get to the point that I can't carry my pack, I'll get a pack horse. With this combination of stoves, I'm ready to mix and match and even carry all 3 so I can cook multiple things simultaneously; such as, coffee, bacon, and potatoes. Your video comparing the MSR, Windmaster, and others, convinced to get the Windmaster and I've never regretted it. So, thank you. Keep up the good work; we depend on it.

Another great stove video Ernie. I have a Bushbox LF which is 3.5 inches out of stainless steel. It’s a great stove but I think I need something bigger........just because, lol. I have been eyeballing the Firebox 5 inch Gen2 and I think I will go titanium. It will be used for bikepacking and hiking so the weight saving will be worth the price. I look forward to your future review of that stove. Thanks again

With you Ernie, it took me alot of cheap mistakes before I finally spent out on the firebox, and since then I haven't turned away, and I've bought extras and the firebox nano... fantastic stove.

Just received my regular sized stainless steel firebox stove. Cooked on it twice and was fairly happy with it, did the job just fine. I live in an area with out hard woods and found I had to constantly add twigs to keep it hot enough to fry my hash browns.

I bought my Gen 2 shortly after they came out and I got the package deal with everything in it, well it was missing the rapid boil rack and within 2 days they sent me the missing part plus something extra, now after all this time it's still in great shape with NO warping so definitely worth the money in my book.

This is a case where you actually get more for your money. For a backpacking wood burning stove it's hard to beat any of the Firebox stoves. I started with the Stainless Firebox Nano then upgraded to my current one. My favorite , wood burning , stove is the Firebox , Titanium , Nano Gen 2. It ( plus the X stand ) fits in my Maxi Titanium Canteen cup as a lightweight , complete , package. Included is a titanium , Evernew , alcohol burner. I like the titanium because it cools quickly and helped me reduce my packs weight.

It only starts with the perfect stove - his well chosen accessories pair well too. I have the little table to keep it from starting grass fires, the cooking utensil kit, and the 8” and 10” cook sets. All the same greatness

I always carry precut wood on my day trips for my Firebox Nano.....pretty much as you showed...about 3 in. to fit in vertically in the Swedish torch method. Constantly feeding in tiny sticks is tedious. At 1120 could have had the wind screen in the up position. Got to love the Coffee Rocket.... in warmer weather. Great stove kit, thanks!!

Yesterday I was on call for a major news network to cover a potential tsunami in Hawaii and American Samoa. The Firebox Titanium 5” was in my backpack. A key aspect for air travel is that the Firebox removes the need for fuels or cannisters which you cannot transport. Fuel (twigs) abound everywhere. Both the 5” & Nano are gold...delighting my South Pacific friends with gourmet tacos and “Manu Dogs” in the rainforests. Time for you to try Koko Samoa from Firebox...its magic!

I have the 5" and 2 nano's all in Ti. Weight is amazingly lite. Combined w/all the accessories the 5" cannot be beat. Cook a roast, pie, cake, what ever your heart desires. Full blown high end restaurant style meals. Check out the fry pan kits from firebox. OUTSTANDING. A lot of excellent gear. Limited only by your imagination.

I own their Ti Nano and absolutely love it. Thinking about grabbing their 5" model just to have for car camping. Would be nice to have something that I can use to grill and bake with. Yes the nano can be used to grill with, but you likely will burn your food, unless you are using a rotisserie above it.

It is the Standard compact wood stove to compare all others to.
I paid $100 for my gen 2. Not for fun but for emergency et all.
Steve @ Firebox Stove says not to put grill plates above direct flames or they might warp. Read & follow the instructions.

That fire burned quick!!! Awesome video and product. If you're gonna invent a portable camping stove, invent one that is lightweight, durable and efficient. I think the firebox meets all those requirements so it's worth the money. I just bought the nano yesterday and can't wait to use it.
