Why do we need active filters and how to analyze circuits that include active components (i.e. Op-Amps).

Yes. I keep reading about how to build filters with coils/inductors for
ham radio. But I want to use op amps so I can get some
amplification. . But I don't know which ones to buy. I know that slew rate is important. What parameters in the datasheets should I be looking at ?
