Sanibel Shelling at Bowman's Beach with INCREDIBLE loggerhead sea turtle encounter.

- We love beachcombing and shelling on Sanibel Island and we were only expecting to find some shells and maybe a critter or two. Little did we know, we were going to witness an adult female loggerhead turtle on the beach! We found a first-time found shell and quite a few other really awesome things on our walk. Join us for our virtual shelling excursion where I'll identify the items we find and introduce you to an up-close look at a loggerhead turtle.

That was so awesome seeing that beautiful mama turtle!! My sister was on a beach laying there in the sun when her and her husband heard a soft rumbling and out popped out a baby turtle then another and more. The area wasn’t marked that that was turtle eggs below so they were surprised.

Oh I would have loved to have seen a whole nest of turtles hatch! I don't know if you saw the video of when I did see one tiny little turtle return to the ocean. All day I was hoping to see baby sea turtles and I did! It was so exciting. And of course finding shells is always pretty fun 🌴🌊🐚

You ARE so, so lucky! I would love to move back to the coast. Texas coast is where I grew up.
I am SO lucky is right! I used to have to drive 1.5 hours to get to a beach. I so appreciate all the amazing places I can explore down here. We didn't know it at the time, but we really moved to the most perfect place. I've never seen the Texas coast but I'd sure like to one day!

I always enjoy watching your videos. I loved your Christmas beach tree. I put some of my beach finds ( drift wood, sponge, fans with sand in bottom) in an open lamp. Fun to get the shells displayed. Wish we could shell together.

That's pretty neat that you have turtles lay eggs in your yard! We always hit the beach early, so there are usually no crowds when we go. Please do stay safe!
I finally watched this. Very cool. Congrats. I have never seen a turtle on the beach. Just the nest. So wonderful you got to see in real life what I've only seen in documentaries. Yes turtle video please. That would be wonderful to see details. Well so long as the erosion does not continue those babies will be fine. They can take a fall and keep going to the ocean.
I couldn't believe we were SO LUCKY to be at the right place at the right time. No other people walked by while she was on the beach. It truly was amazing - plus we managed to find a few cool shells too!

I used to find painted and snapping turtles too as a kid, but that loggerhead was just the best turtle encounter we've ever had!

Sanibel is the shelling capital of the world. I have pictures after the Hurricane in 1968 the shells were 10 to 12 feet high on the beach.
Mary Kruse WOW! I would faint! And then I’d find a wheel barrel to cart off all the shells I found. That must have been amazing to witness!
I don't live anywhere near the ocean so I love seeing your videos and what you find. Last week, I took my yearly trip to the ocean (Gulf Shores, Alabama) and I found a Baby's Ear while swimming. I had no idea what it was called until now! :)

I've been enjoying your videos. We live in Louisiana about 30 miles from Holly beach. We go shelling a few times a year. We have an abundance of shark eyes and angel wings at our beaches. Found a few welks and FL conchs, but they are usually small or damaged. Keep posting videos, we hope to make it to the eastern Gulf of Mexico someday. 😁

It has been a rough summer for finding shells! I spoke to a Sanibel local and he said it's been slow for the last 6 months. We always manage to find SOMETHING, but I'm hoping the Winter Winds will make our job easier 😊 Thank you for watching!
I was at the beach once and on Sanibel Island I found a big shell like the one on the left side of the thumbnail

We go as early as possible, usually around 7:30-8am. Its great in the warmer months because the sun isn't completely out yet, but in the winter it can get a little chilly :)
I have so many questions for you. What shoea if any do you wear while shelling? What do you put the shells in while you're shelling. What do you do with your shells? Love your videos
I do not usually wear shoes unless we're going a REALLY long walk in which case I'll put on my Columbia outdoor sandals. The sand will irritate the bottom of my feet after a couple of miles and the shoes are lifesavers (or feet savers!). I had this mesh shopping bag which I changed into an over the shoulder bag and then added some fabric to make the handle longer. I recently took some video of my beat up bag so I can show you in an upcoming video. The shells....I keep the really pretty ones and I have a bunch of glass containers I keep them all in. The rest I use in my yard in a section my husband sectioned off. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello again! I am not sure if this was a good find or not, but I thought it was beautiful! I will try to post a little screen shot of something you might have missed at 3:10, just as you picked up a little kitten paw. Do you see the clear shell? Is that not a good find? Again, you know I'm not a sheller lol!!

I’ve never shelled at the Lighthouse personally - but I’ve heard of others finding good things there, I think this time of year is just tough and harder to find good shells. Hope you manage to find something good!
Do you think it is safe to have a beach trip or are the beaches super crowded?
Personally, I go early in the morning and never experience any crowds. If I ever felt uncomfortable I would leave, but people at the beaches I visit are social distancing and being respectful of others space. I do feel it is safe.

What is your preferred method to clean your shells? The turtle was super cool!!!
I would prefer to just soak my goodies in bleach, but that doesn't always get the job done. I tried dipping them in acid and it was amazing (here is the video: czcams.com/video/mx47mh0Ogl8/video.html).

Nice shells! Im starting to show ur vids to my little brother, he's learning! But me and my brother are wondering if there are websites to take a picture of shells and they will tell us the name because, we have like 22 of this shell.They are tiny and they kinda look like hats for our fingers, its hard to describe, so if u like i can make a vid on my channel to see it.

The volunteers walk the islands looking for the turtle tracks. I don't remember if that was a "false crawl" or not, but we have PLENTY of amazing people who are on the lookout for our turtles!

I've thought about that, and it would be MUCH faster for me to make videos but I don't like the sound of the wind and there are times when I want to add maps and other info, so I just take care of all that once I'm home 🤗
