- Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the note count/articulation settings of the MiniFreak coupled with an explanation of synthesizer polyphony and articulation in order to demonstrate the unique thing happening with the Arturia MiniFreak.
The theme was created out of presets and crafted patches over an assemblage of fragments of GarageBand loops. For all intents and purposes, it is a MiniFreak-Only composition.

Thanks for the video Mark, Even as a tester for this synth I have found this series in-depth
Thank you! That's really cool!
Words matter. Rant justified. I think it’s important to have clear terminology so people can distinguish marketing from reality and have a common understanding for discussion. The topic is fraught with peril but I’m glad you’re shining a light on it.
Words matter. Experience matters more.
That was one of the most educationally fascinating 17 minutes of my life. Thank you! I own the MiniFreak, and I now look at it with more respect.
Thank you!
you must be terribly uneducated then.
This is exactly the detail I wanted to know about the MiniFreak's voice settings - so thank you for that. I don't have to understand all of the digital magic - but I wanted to know the kinds of sound options that Arturia were aiming for with this synth. As is often said in these matters : if it sounds good - it is good!
Your series on the Minifreak is completely awesome and highly educational at the same time. Well done.
Thank you!
This was really good! I’m new to synthesis and it helped. I’ll certainly be rewatching this. Thank you!
As a relatively new Minifreak owner, I found this video super helpful. Thanks!
I’m glad to help!
Piano machine go brrr
You might not believe me, but this is one of my favorite comments in 17 years of doing this.
This is the type of nerdiness that's going to get Doty into the Synth Hall of fame 😎
Beautiful I noticed this noodling with it 🎉
Split-Osc-Poly-Doubling is what Im calling it 😁
Thanks for another great vid!
Pseudophonic
Quasiphonic
Metrophonic
Hexaphonic
Dodecaphonic
Hookedonphonic
fk, now im confused again...
Ha that was a great explanation, I always thought the paraphonic name for this was weird but didn't think too hard! Considering the Taiga gor example has a "paraphonic" mode where two notes can be played at once but all sharing a filter and envelope, the minifreaks mode with the same name couldnt be more different than that 😂
Thanks for the explanation. Can the mink freak do stereo allocation of voices or oscillators in any of the modes, at all??
Just about any stereo chorus pedal can produce that effect for you.
Very good video TY
Thank you!
@@automaticgainsay liked and subscribed! Excellent materials on several synths I own! Happy happy joy joy! =)
Nice video man! Does it mean that I can stack 6 sequences on top of each other in mono mode ?
And if I split the 2 oscillators, does it mean I could stack up to 12 mono sequences?
It would be interesting to test the “paraphonic” mode further 12:49 have 6 notes permanently held (by an external sequencer) and then play short notes on top of it. That should give information about how the pairing works.
I dont know if Marc suffers from GAS but it appears he has a serious case of RAS - Ring Acquisition Syndrom.
:D
Any chance of u doing video for sequencer
I knew this was coming....
...think i might pull the trigger on this thing & Keylab 49 or 61 tooo control it: just can't decide man¿as usual, once again & one more time udahman, Udahbest Doty UrgUrU thanx again dude
OH NO! Here we go again! 😅
Its called freak for a reason;)
You should create your own Wiki called Marcophonic...
ha ha haa
@@automaticgainsay OK so I was really impressed with this vid, how you explained the multiphonic thing, how it should not be called paraphonic due to many things being involved, ie, the envelope, the filter etc per voice.
So I asked Wagoo and I will ask you, since you sacrifice the 2nd OSC to add the extra 6 voices, do you think Arturia could somehow make a pseudo binaural mode like a UDO 6 by had panning the 1st OSC R and then the 2nd OSC L and making these 12 voices stacked in a 6 voice super mode?
This is how I see it, I don't know if I have it right but given what Arturia have achieved to get the extra 6 voices, maybe they would be able to get something like this to happen?
I swear Arturia resurrected Merlin in Brocéliande and have him on their payroll or something.
“Big, unusable punch in the face” lol
2:58☝🏾
Psychophonic?
Splittinghairsaphony 😏... to those who want it to respond like a piano ... just get a piano ... I can play this synth with one finger.
I think it’s periperiphonic
a dictionary description would take less than 30 seconds to read.
Thanks for sharing
Nerd alert. It’s better than paraphonic. If they made up a new term nobody would understand it. We are all impressed with you knowledge of synthesis but I didn’t hear any terrifying truths here.
YES YOU DID
