I am now going to bolt said VR6 in to the car!!!
HumbleMechanic awesome man!!!!!
VERY!
HumbleMechanic Sweeeeeeet!
You are incredibly meticulous! I really like that. I look forward to these updates.
I'm not a fan of "old" cars but if I was gonna have one, this is exactly how I'd want it done. Awesome work. I'm looking forward to seeing the first drive post Dyno etc. 👍🏽👍🏽
I don't know, seems like that engine deserves MQB
That is a turbo with a VR6 attached to it and not the other way around :D
LazyRock That's not a big turbo. When you hit the firewall with your turbo must be a Borg Warner 😉
Wookie wookie! Love these updates, and i'm with you with not changing too many things at once, it can make troubleshooting a nightmare!
Looking glorious. I just finished rebuilding a Corrado g60 and am ironing out the final kinks. Your videos make me jealous on how clean an engine really can look!
You can print N/A cam and turbo Dyno charts and over-lay them. If you pick a certain turbocharger watch for where the curve peaks. Match your cam selection to this peak and the parts will work together. You can gain between 40 and 100 HP with a cam and an SRI.(268 and below is good to maintain vacuum for A/C and power brakes)
Stoked to see the progress, best engine to take on the forced induction side haha. Also keen to watch ur vids cause I'll be in apprenticeship at my local Volkswagen shop as mechanic here in Germany. Only a month to go.. dreamjob
While the architecture of the VR6 seems strange, its all the same stuff as any engine. Nice job. It is rare not to have to reindex turbos. Removing turbine and compressor housings can aid in installation.
So fresh and so clean
Wow that's looking amazing keep the great video coming. Quick question I have brought a 1994 golf vr6 obd1 and am loving it
Can't wait to see this build finished! 😊
With that turbo I think 300WHP is real conservative. Not sure what the trim for this turbo but VR6's and Turbo's are made for each other.
Wow what a beautiful vr6!
It has been said that if putting an engine together is a 1000 piece jig saw puzzle, then putting pia transmission together (especially an automatic) is a 1,000,000 piece jig saw puzzle. So I can understand just putting the transmission on, just for the sake of getting it on the road and then going back to it. I don't know jack about VW's, however having seen the exploded view and also the parts list on a transmission that goes on the Ford F-150/Expedition/Crown Victoria, it is a lot; and for that reason transmissions often get overlooked or only a few people actually specialize in transmission work.
so exited to this beast in action ,, go go man !
Im excitedabout this! Great update
Happy Sunday Charles..i take it that your emission standards are a bit more relaxed than California? Love what your doing. I'd love to see you and etcg have a drag race..cheers
OMFG it's almost to purty to start it!!!! Oh I can't wait to see this run....white whoosh wookie FTW
cant wait to see this on the dyno
Josh A and on the road!
Great video, format is very good.
Thanks, glad you like it. I have been playing around with more voice over stuff. Its just so hot in the shop with the fans off. LOL
Watching this while in between on my b5 s4. Need to bleed the slave cylinder today. It's safe to assume it's as much a pia as everything else on my car haha. But hey I live VAG life.
Looking awesome man! Can't wait to see a video o you driving it. :)
You should do a turbo on a 2013 cc vr6 4motion executive
Copper head gasket or copper spray? Have not been following the build so my apologies if it was covered before. I'll work my way through your previous material.
Neither. Thats not a problem with the VR engines.
A fan of copper gasket spray huh? I'm a big user as well.
Btw that turbo is huge!
that stuff is gold on garbage ohv 2.2 chevy s-10s and cavalier/sunfires
A j/b gt40 or 366 Borg Warner consecutively is 700/max 825.(E-85) Nearing 40 psi. Big injector direct 🔥.
Nice job
nice mig fab intake, i have the same one!
fabbed intakes ftw
Wow. Impressive.
Will we be getting any links to the products you buy for this project or is that exclusive for crew members?
Flim more please!!! Would love to see this coming together
+M. Grabarz thanks!! Don't worry. It's mostly all filmed. The CZcams videos just take a little longer to produce. :)
HumbleMechanic Awesome!! Looking forward to them.
Cant wait to see it running :D
+Pungent Pie me too
:D best of luck with it dude
Please do that to mine. I have the 02 2.8 vrs in the 03 GLI body. I need everything you have. And I want it even louder than it already is. It’s stock and fast but not fast enough.
Love The powder coated pieces. Although all of it looks nice.
I didn't catch the link for the drawing to win the VR6 timing chain set and install by the Humble Mechanic AKA Charles. Can you repost that?
+Brad Downs Hahahha. I must have let that one slip my mind. ;) but if you're local maybe we can work it out

HumbleMechanic where are you based out of?
I plan on doing a vr6 swap in my mk3 this winter! I have future plans to turbo. What do you think the the 12V AAA VR6 stock can handle with boost lbs? I’ve heard 10-11lbs from a couple of people but that seems like a lot for a stock engine. What would you recommend for, I dunno, a meager 8lbs? At this point in my mechanic career (very early), I was planning to do the build myself and then have it towed to a shop for proper tuning of A/F ratio, etc.
hey charls how about a wookie update? this is why i joined the channel, and its been 3 years
Not much new really. She’s waiting on a rear brake upgrade.
@@HumbleMechanic soon charls
Ahh that big ass turbo :DD
This is fucking awesome!
The billion $ question is: Will it run ?
...or can it run Minesweeper... but I'm not sure if this is the place for it.
Would love to see a DIY from you on how to assemble AN lines.
+Austin Shaw I'll probably be doing that. I have a few lines I want to make
HumbleMechanic awesome! Looking forward to seeing that.
Wow, can't wait to see this legendary vr6t come alive
HumbleMechanic Hi, I have a question. I am by no means a turbo know it all, but isn't that a poor placement of that precision wastegate? Will that cause boost control/creep issues due to how the exhaust would have to flow through that exhaust manifold? Btw I'm a huge fan of your channel and I am in no way questioning your abilities or knowledge, I've just always thought that you want to have a wastegate with a better position for flow. Thank you and keep doing what you do!
+Sean Determan a great question for sure.
The kit was built with this setup. So I'm going to install it as it was designed. After she is running and break in, then we will start playing around with different setups.
I don't think this is "the best" way. But I think it's going to be fine.
That's a big turbo for conservative boost levels
i wish i could send you my jetta and let you do your magic then let south africa see your work live
Hello HumbleMechanic! Big fan of your videos, and I'm planning on turbocharging my VR6 (with a considerably smaller turbocharger) and I was wondering what your opinion was on that header, I've been looking around online and it seems to be the only reputable one I can find (for a reasonable price) but I wanted to go with a tubular stainless steel header, any suggestions? Should I just try to find a local fabricator to make one for me?
If you want tubular, I think custom is the only road to go down.
Thank you!
Filing order for v6 benz
I recently bought an 04 vr6 24v and was wondering what turbo kit you recommend I’m looking to build the engine and hopefully push 550-600whp
Prob been asked a lot. What power levels are you gonna be at once tuned.
+GradyRho92 should come in about 300 WHP
What are you going to use for engine management?
What flywheel, clutch and pressure plate did you use??
But transmission are bad for VW from 2.0 and up. On my VR6 12 valve Passat B3 fail 2 gear box do to short satellites which some how get out and gear box are no go.
Hi Charles. Were you in the VW dealerships when the MK3 diffs would blow apart? I'd love to know why that kept happening.
+TheStwat nah. That was before my time.
Do you have any inkling as to why that gearbox and diff were so weak? :-)
Rivet's in the diff shear off
Hey I was wondering with this set up if I went 268 with itbs do u think it work
im thinking about making my own short runner intake and so fore do you have any more information about how you made it?
What turbo did you go with?
Do all GTIs have a manual transmission?
I got a 3.0t in my Audi I want to swap with one of these how much ball park estimate am I looking at?
What brand exhaust mani is that ? Also what shirt runner is that ?
WOOKIEEEEEE
What exhaust manifold is that?
Man I really hoped you followed through going over TDC and how to set if you lose it :(
+Ben Lawson yep. Filmed all of that. Gonna jump ahead a little and make that video next week.
HumbleMechanic awesome I look fwd to it
gonna keep as much as I can factory? I hate to tell ya this but youve taken the plunge and your on your own as far as how this ends up. keeping something factory and thinking its gonna behave the same as it did before all this is never gonna happen and I think this comes up faster than anyone wants to admit but the only thing reliable about factory parts after changing this much of a car is the way in which they fail. but you will figure this out on your own. its not factory parts or the aftermarket that will make a car like this reliable its how much time you spend with it
if you any thing like me . you will be itching to get the engine started
RIP transmission
Your right. ATP makes a 6700$ straight cut gearset , but the casting on an O2J/A is just not up to the task on a big power daily. You can however O2M swap. There are a few problems here, but a built 02M FWD can probably handle 7-900hp.
so what kind of power can you get out of these on a big build?
Justin Clark lots of your forge the bottem end 600 to 700 is attainable and with anything else there are people who push like 900
Ryan Rohauer thats impressive, whats he going for with this build? Im to lazy to go through all the vids
Ewww, hope you're going to clean the throttle body up?
Cal M of course not.
Hey good job... I am actually turbo charging My MB W124 CE230, but one question keep buzzing me, where do I get the oil and water feed for the turbo. Since My Turbo is water cooled. I am planing to add a oil plate for cooling between filter and engine, so I guess it will be somewhere around there...
As close to the oil filter as possible for the oil feed. That is usually a place you can "T" into. For coolant, use what is the coolest place and the closest place
Thank your for you advice. The Plate has in and out for oil radiator ant 2 outlets so I guess this will do. And my Water pump has a second output with a bolt output, strait from the cold side of radiator. Easier than I thought. Thanks for everything and make that VR6 chew the road...
are you putting an LSD in it?
Brannon c4.. an lsd requires splitting the transmission case open on fwd cars.. and he said a trasmission is going in as is to get the car on the road.. my guess would be no..
Brannon c4 that said, an LSD may be in it's future if he's planning to build up the tranny later. One great thing about the Getrag gearbox they stuck in the 02-06 Mini coopers is the fact the LSD is external and doesn't require opening the tranny up. If only everyone else followed suit...
Can I buy it?.. (hood rich)lol
You need to post more here on CZcams. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are awful and I refuse to use them and support those companies.
I'm the same only have CZcams sadly and also hate twitter Facebook and the likes
at least paint the trans !
+areyouyo I talk about my plans for it at the end of the video.
