me and my family have been their next neighbors in the mid 70ies and allways enjoyed it, okay in the Odenwald you have quite some 500mrs space between each Chalet, whre they played in the forest, and once a year perfpormed at their own Festival 10.000 people coming together in the muddy valey of Finkenbach, listening to all the other "Krautrock" bands the festival area was sponsored by local farmer another neighbor!
uli trepte, the man on the bass was using an ear knob as a microphone - he used this some years later on his solo lp Uli Trepte the title is called "ear mike song", recorded 1974. Electric Junk was released on the Guru Guru lp "Hinten"
Somehow this turned up in my listen box. I saw them around 1973 at the German Super Rock festival in Frankfurt. Guru Guru, Amon Duul, King Pin Meh and a slew of others.
Guru Guru, Harmonia, Faust, Neu!, Novalis, Release Music Orchestra, Can, Univers Zero, Agitation Free, Ash Ra Tempel... All these bands have proved an influence on modern music. Thank You, Eastern Europe!
This is not tho. Even the album version is not highly structured. More structured than this but also lots of improv between parts. This live version is basically a hendrix jam, and a great one at that @@joeheadblues
Finkenbach festival still exists. I come from Spain to Odenwald every year cause in my opinion this is the best festival ever. The people is amazing, the bands are awesome (mostly kraut bands from the 70's and actuals..!) and the valleys of Odenwald are probably the nicest place on earth... is more than music... it's impossible to describe it.
I saw Manu Neumeier play with Kawabata Makota and Tsuyama Atsushi from Acid Mothers Temple last December in Tokyo and I saw him play with Keiji Haino too. Mani is just amazing live.
For anyone that doesn'y know, this track is from their second album, 'Hinten'... I have their first four albums on CD, and they where THE surreal heavy jazz/prog to com out of Germany in the early '70's... Bloody superb!!! : )
Guru Guru with Uli Trepte and Ax Genrich, the best Combination of Guru Guru I ever heard. The LP`s UFO and HINTEN are typical for that what was called "Krautrock"
irgendwie fasziniert mich das all die jahre später als elektronik-birne immer noch :-] die leute da und die zeiten damals ham was drauf gehabt , das muss man sagen !
@zolwikPawel My PC has been down for a month, so I'm just getting back to you now... This is an interesting number. I think it sounds like early Zappa AND some of the psychedelic stuff Iron Butterfly featured in "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" - especially the vocal effect segment. That part sounds a lot like the "elephant" calls in "Gadda".
Manni Neumeier: maybe, just maybe the german equal to John Bonham - listen to his solo in " Ooga Booga Special - anyways a master on the Drums 💜🔥💜👍👍👍🌈👽🖖

R.I.P Uli Trepte. What a bass player!

Those were the days.... (sigh)
We had MUSIC back then!
we need more bands these days that can actually improvise! this is bad ass!
It is actually a well-structured song, find in the album Hinten
This is not tho. Even the album version is not highly structured. More structured than this but also lots of improv between parts. This live version is basically a hendrix jam, and a great one at that @@joeheadblues
Guru Guru kicks complete ass. My buddy Joe Carducci from newvulgate turned me onto these dude. Raaaaawk!

Drummer Mani is a real genius!
And still on tour in 204 at the age of 83!
One of the greatest rock songs of all time. I bought every Guru Guru LP in the 70’s.
I bet the neighbors adored them.

Grossartig und auch heute noch hörenswert so wie letzte Woche im LAB (stuttgart)
guru guru: the blue cheer of krautrock!
I saw these guys a few times when I lived in Frankfurt, Germany from 1970-1973 and never really appreciated them--they're pretty damn good!
Uli Trepte saw a distant land that the rest of us can only dream of.
It is all there: rock, blues, psych, electric, funk, crazy, damned, hendrix, vanguard, retroguard...
GENIAL!!! LA VIVA EXPRESIÓN DE LA ESENCIA KRAUTROCK !
For anyone that doesn'y know, this track is from their second album, 'Hinten'...
I have their first four albums on CD, and they where THE surreal heavy jazz/prog to com out of Germany in the early '70's...
Bloody superb!!! : )
I love this so much . Like we need an archive of ALL KRAUTROCK performances ASAP
I remember when this had 5,000 views in 07, i didnt want it shared was my own secret lol
This fucking rules. They were years ahead of their time.
Wahnsinn, sie haben alles rausgeholt, was ging. BRAVO!!!
Ax Genrich - guitar , Uli Trepte - bass, Mani Neumeier - drums
Guru Guru with Uli Trepte and Ax Genrich, the best Combination of Guru Guru I ever heard. The LP`s UFO and HINTEN are typical for that what was called "Krautrock"

I am very sad to hear about Trepte's death. I was listening to "Spacebox" recently - now, that's music with personality. RIP.
Man, where can they play like that with the German noise laws?
Great stuff.
Seen them play in 1980’s some were around Chicago great memories

KRAUTROCK!!!!!!
Strafattoni di tutto rispetto. Darei la vita per una strumentazione del genere.

All bands should have a great song.
Funny boys, they are so crazy. Allways best entertainment!
Wow, love the vocal treatment, whigged out guitar solo and effects, manic drumming.. and abrupt ending. Thanks orangefunk for posting this.

die leute da und die zeiten damals ham was drauf gehabt , das muss man sagen !
fuckin great stuff---i love it
I could imagine that these guys either got along very well with Hendrix, or they were at war, but nothing in between...
fantastyczny numer.

The bass player cracks me up.
Who needs drugs with Guru Guru around? Ooga-booga!
@progjazzfusion I appreciate the offer! I might do that some time. What I meant was I wish you were in my band doing improv with us.
HERGÜN VURUYOM GURU GURU GUBARA :))
Brutales!
That´s the first versionb of a talkbox....mostly used in tghe 80s by Bon Jovi.....surprised they had that thing in the 70s...
A band so far out they had to name it twice.

Guru Guru is fantastic! They have a new project 44 years later. I am so curious about the new DVD. www.startnext.de/en/guru-guru
Käng Käng ? - Guru Guru ! *(-_-)*
amazing sound
and they're playing in a place that could be my bedroom...
isn't there a part of the song that reminds you of 21st century schizoid man?
If you like this music, also try listening to Can, Popol Vuh, Faust, German Oak, Gong, Cosmik Jokers, Magma
Die volle Dröhnung
Manni Neumeier: maybe, just maybe the german equal to John Bonham - listen to his solo in " Ooga Booga Special - anyways a master on the Drums 💜🔥💜👍👍👍🌈👽🖖
Holy shit...
That final note seems to be saying "So there!" I'd say they won this argument.
Das alte psychedelische gesehen roh!
Töne wie Iron Butterfly.
AWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAH
Like chicken soup for the earholes friendo.
