Well, I’ve only dated one Japanese woman (she’s my wife now) but what mostly caused problems was the difference in communication style. She often seemed disappointed when I couldn’t ‘read’ her expectations, whereas where I’m from (Canada), people tend to just state what they want or expect from one another. Usually.? 😆 Well, I guess dating is never easy no matter where you’re from!

That's actually same with my crush. He is actually more honest but at the same time he keeps a lot inside and expressing emotions for him is very difficult. However when I ask him to be more straight forward with me and when he sees that I can't understand what is wrong he either expresses or just accepts that I can't read between the lines even if my life depended on it. But at the same time he shows he cares for me with his actions so I still feel cared for. The communication indeed is tricky but can be worked on if both parties put effort in.

@@Jordan-inJapan Yeah, maybe it's the culture. I'm also an emotional and traumatized person so to this day I still end up asking him if he is angry when I feel like he is shutting down and stuff because I can never tell his feelings. But at the same time he is an amazing listener which helps my chaotic and traumatized personality. What I found helpful is to just learn to express your own feelings and just ask how the other person feels becasue in my case I just can't tell, even if I try hard. So it really takes a little bit more effort. Good luck on your marriage. I hope you two will be happy forever.

Heh, I'm no "professional psychologist", but I'm sure you found a way: Your attitude is always so positive and upbeat and I'm sure of all things that helps everyone around you feel with "positive vibes"!
With that said, my thinking is Japanese expect people to do the HARD THINKING (Think Hard Lifting of Weights!) to express love. In the West, it's not thought out like that: In the West it's much more about: I emote this and you respond thus and then we both feel these together...".
As I said I think they expect a bit more "heavy-lifting"? One way to maybe cheat the system is invent indirect communication cues: If she has this emotion eg sad then the symbol for her expressing that is she perhaps puts her left chopstick pointing towards the flower-vase... and then extend the system for other emotions and variations to build up a tidy system of 100 such... ! Hey it's about having fun together as you share life with each other afterall? And pull each other up.

Takashii - You lucked out so well with this video: Three extraordinary lovely gentlemen from France, Spain and Germany/Ukraine, respectively. Each of them came across as really really decent and good people. I wish them so much happiness with their lovely Japanese "better halves" as we say in English.
It was also very impressive that each of these people was able to speak Japanese and obviously put in the effort.
They are all young and life is a long journey: I would like to say to each of them: You have chosen well and as you grow older, then raising a family will complete you as people so well and as good parents you will be a blessing upon your children's lives.
As to topics for interview to provide stimulus and energy and keep yourself interested in your own work: If you keep unearthing such high quality people, whatever topic you choose will be very good content.
That said, I will provide some direct feedback: Use the 100:10:1 rule: Brainstorm 100 ideas, then select the top 10 from these then choose the top 1 out of those 10 that you really are most interested in. To start your stockpile of ideas:
    1. Interview young Japanese about working in the countryside eg farming or agriculture as opposed to urban areas
    2. Interview any foreigners who are attracted to Japan by the wonderful crafts and arts. It's always interesting if you meet a foreigner who imbides the culture fully eg becomes a martial art practitioner or a master craftsman of something
    3. Interview foreigners learning Japanese directly at the Japanese Universities.
    4. Interview anyone who is doing their won start-up business.
    5. Any foreigners running their own business in Japan: That is also interesting.
These are 5 ideas out of 100 to help get the ball rolling forwards...
    Arigato - as always.

Could you make a video about social events and opportunities where foreigners can meet Japanese people and make new acquaintances in Japan? You could interview foreigners about their experience with overcoming isolation when they first arrived. I’m interested in people’s ability to meet others that they shared things in common with despite language & cultural differences that would make it more difficult.

Well this is interesting, it seem almost all the foreign men want to eventually move out of Japan. Is because Japan makes it hard for them to get Japanese citizenship even when married? or is it because though Japan is a safe place they wouldn't want to raise mixed kids there who would probably be bullied for not being fully "Japanese ".

    • @paolomartizzi164
      @paolomartizzi164 Před 2 lety +7

Sadly, I believe that mixed kids could experience not being full "Anything" almost anywhere in the world. I guess the main problem stands in the strict visa rules for foreigners in Japan.

i think it depends every person is different . Some get comfortable there and settle . Some get comfortable and live there for a long time 10+year. Some live there for a while like the german dude around 5 or 6 years and want to try something new and some has had enough after like 1 2 or 3 years weather it be homesickness, or they feel like is just time to leave and they enjoyed their time or they had a bad time there etc.

Bullying is everywhere. I have a mixed Japanese-American friend who was born and raised in the U.S. and now, he lives in Japan. He said when he was in junior high and high school, his classmates called him "J*p" and bullied him, bringing up events from World War II. And after graduating from high school, he immediately moved to Japan. He says Japan is far more accepting of me than the U.S and I will never go back to America.

Sorry not speak English.
