Happy New Year! Excellent reaction. I can't tell you how many times I have heard this and still can't figure out why SU-METAL can sing this difficult song so perfectly. Her talent is immeasurable.
Ever since I discovered Babymetal in 2015, they have been one of my absolute favourite bands. I have often asked myself, why? The answer is fairly simple: the girls are some of the best performers I've ever seen (I saw them live 3 times in a row in early 2020), the musicians are incredibly talented, they only use top notch equipment live even in the smallest venues, they have incredibly good songwriters and a great producer...and they haven't gone mainstream. They have all done their thing, no matter how absurd it may seem at first. That's what sets Babymetal apart from almost everyone else, and that's why I love them!
Great reaction - and "What? Who? How? What?" Four excellent questions.🤣 As in the comments below, I am also going with 'Bring Moa Chicken'. They had this on the set list throughout the 2020 UK and Europe tour and they completely destroyed the roof of every venue when they played it. There were many fans who did not like it at all when they first heard it - the auto-tune on Su's vocals (as you said, not needed and it was an artistic choice) put them off and they thought they could and would not play it live. Happily they were proved very wrong, Su absolutely kills it live without the auto-tune and effects on her vocals - they are kept for the backing track with harmonies etc. Happy New Year 🤘🦊🤘
Happy new year ! Great reaction. Something you might want to know is this was Su-metal's first real rap song. And she hit it out of the park and out of the city. 🙂 The live version sounds to raw, love it !
I agree about the autotune. I‘m not a fan in general, and I think Su‘s voice is best enjoyed as pure and unadulterated as possible. But in this case it does suit the song, as it’s very electronicky altogether. I won’t deny that I prefer the live version without the effect, though. Su said in an interview that it took her a while to find the correct flow for this song. I‘m totally in awe about her professionalism, diligence and passion when it comes to these things. This is a completely new style for her, and she sits down and practices until it’s absolutely perfect. It‘s not adequate or sufficient, it‘s just perfect, even down to the mannerism and movement. From the music you‘d think that it would need a huge badass dude to represent it adequately, but this tiny badass cute girl does it just as well. Somehow she manages to not look out of place at all. And she does all that just for that one song, as the next one requires yet another style. She‘s a miracle.
True she is a total perfectionist - I mean the fact after singing No Rain No Rainbow live a few times SHE decided to stop and wait until she felt she had the life experiences to be able to sing it properly. At 16/17 she KNEW that - not a producer, Su. She comes back and sings it for for her 20th and knocks it out of the park (for the record that version is titled labelled LEGEND - S - BAPTISM XX)
Love seeing SUMETAL throw up babmetal gang signs lol.... this type of d8versity is the reason why LADY GAGA let them open for her in the ARTPOP tour in 2013
Seriously, this song is so fucking nuts how can anyone not love it? You realise this song actually has a few rap people up in arms about whether it is rap - just like some metal wankers still don't accept that BABYMETAL is metal. So many people determined to pedant themselves out of so much fun that they could have been having if only they accepted the band for what it does.
BMC will always and forever mean, "Bring Moa Chicken!" Unless Queen Su and Princess Moa show up to my door and tell me otherwise in person, lol. 😁😁 Great reaction as always! Kitsune Up! 🤘🦊🤘
For me after seeing the video (and really being unsure) compared to watching a "live" it had one of the biggest impacts of the difference between their album stuff and stage - I was instantlly grabbed when I saw the "live" version - I guess audience is also a huge part mind you - BMC is now one of my top tracks - to watch/listen to
Expect the unexpected is the rule for Babymetal, but I think this even surprised a lot of us since it was so outside of Su's normal vocal wheelhouse. At this point I think the only thing she hasn't done vocally is death growl (and I'm not going to say that she couldn't pull that off if she wanted to). This song gets some mixed reactions both among fans and casual viewers, as some people don't care for the rapping or the use of autotune, and I must confess that I didn't care that much for the studio version but the live version well and truly won me over. BxMxC was the Japan exclusive track from Metal Galaxy and follows the rest of the album's theme of being a world tour of cultural influences infused into metal. Although its never been confirmed, BMC seems to stand for "BabyMetal Cipher", but Babymetal fans like to believe that it stands for "Bring Moa Chicken" due to Moa's well known love of food.
Great double feature, thanks! No one expected a rap battle. That's for sure. And many of us (me included) were quite a bit skeptical with the studio version when it first came out. Some even thought they would never perform it live. But we were all wrong. They finally did on January 2020 and, honestly, they killed it. Hands down! About the technical aspects: just to match Suzuka and Moa's proficiency on stage (and Yui's at the time), Koba has to hire the best of the best. And not only for the band members but also for all the technique positions behind them (and the live production in general): sound engineers, lights technicians, assistants, post-production people, etc. And, for what we know, he's really picky... and I like that.
So you definitely like this ? I think i can safely assume you do an excellent reaction, and you are right. BabyMetal is something different. The more you see and learn about them, not just the music and incredible talent but their personalities, no arrogance are very humble never changed since they were first starting. Success has not gone to their heads . The more you love them .😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
I hope the live version answered your autotune question (IF you had any doubt about that): no, Suzuka doesn't need autotune, and you're right, it's merely used here as a vocal effect, probably because rap / trap (the programmed beats of BxMxC are mostly trap beats) sounds like that these days. There's also too much vocal processing on their 'Kingslayer' lyrics for my taste, but knowing they'd hit their notes no matter what anyway makes it more palatable.
Well you're right, the people behind the babymetal really surprised me they maintain the metal and mix it up with the other genre very well, They do it without exaggeration and demerits you can feel it mixing well but you can also feel the difference of the genre
This is normally where we would tell you the difference between the Eastern and Western Kami band, and probably recommend something like "Kagerou" or "Rondo of Nightmare". But you have really started with some unusual songs (great tracks and all, but not normally what new listeners hear first), so perhaps we should point you towards the bigger fan favourites? Perhaps give "Megitsune" or "Road of Resistance" a try? Always go for live performances (with the possible exception of Megitsune, which has an excellent music video). Or, if you want more songs that are totally unexpected, perhaps try "Onedari Daisakusen" or "Babymetal Death". Most people probably wouldn't even suspect that those songs were made by the same band. But they are totally amazing!
Babymetal's new Album drops on March 24. This is followed by a European tour with Sabaton in April. On January 28, & 29th will be performing at Tokyo International Exhibition Hall, which I will be in attendance. So stoked for that here given that it's been 3 years since I've seen Su-Metal live now. Babymetal's live shows are what really set them apart than most. So if you ever get a chance, see a live performance as is 100% worth it!! There are 2 more singles expected to drop along with Devine Attack-Shingeki and Monochrome which already have in October & November of last year. So we have a lot to react to in the meantime. If your wanting some earlier performance to react to. I recommend Rondo of Nightmare Mischiefs of Metal Gods at Budokan Live Intro version. Which is basically an extended version of their performance at Budokan. I believe it might have been their Black Night performance. Su-Metal was 16 in that performance, i believe. So it gives you an idea just how baddass they were even back then. However, their earliest performance was at Summer Sonic at 12 lol. Yes, 12 & that really gives some proper perspective here. 13 years now and looking better than ever!! 🤘💕🦊
This maybe a controversial thought but Su-Metals voice here isn't autotuned. Her pitch is perfect same as in "Kingslayer". They only added effects to her voice in the track. In live she does sound better but the MV (in my opinion ) is great.
Happy New Year from Japan. I admit that BM is a great live band, but I don't find that it is weird the added effects on Su-'s vocals on the studio albums. That's great too for what they are. I wrote below about it before, and got some opinions from some foreigners. Su-'s rap differs from existing Japanese rappers. Is it because she does not imitate existing Japanese rappers or American original rappers? This song is very Japanese from a point of views. Some older Japanese fans, especially those who are familiar with Japanese traditional arts, say, 'This song is a Rokyoku (浪曲, Story Telling) by BM'. It rhymes in Japanese, but that is not the only reason. I am not familiar with Japanese traditions and I am not a big fan of rap music, but BM always gives me something new to discover and I am struck by the live videos. Oh, I'm going to go to the live show for the first time.
happy new year, have fun at the live show ! Don't forget to find an after party or something like that to have drinks and hang out with other fans, those are also great fun
@@autohmae Happy New Yeah. Okay, I will keep that in my mind. Flugelhon-san is The Other One membership, so I heard he will take part in the super mosh'sh pit, Michel M.-san will come to Japan, and I am not sure whether Kit Kat-san will come or not. I will be there on the 28th, mosh'sh pit. I plan to leave my home that morning, have some drink in Tokyo (Asakusa area, I think, ha). Afer that I check into a hotel I booked, take a rest, and then move to Makuhari, Chiba. Until then, I'll have just taken care of my health. I really don't want to work until the live!
@@minamihideki7123 Maybe silly comment: We recently commented on Okonomiyaki, If you want some Hiroshima taste to go with your trip, a restaurant called: Momijiya in Tokyo makes Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. They are also a place where Hiroshima Toyo Carp fans gather.
@@autohmae Thank you. I just did small research too and found that the restaurant (もみじ屋) is located in Iidabashi, Tokyo. According to a gourmet website in Japan, it seems to be a popular restaurant. And it seems to be frequented by Hiroshima natives and Carp fans living in Tokyo. Maybe Su- goes there too in secret?! I wonder if it has her autograph in the restaurant?!.. I must go there, zettai!, lol. By the way, Momiji (もみじ) is another name for Maple, which seems to be the tree and flower of Hiroshima Prefecture. Or it is another name or generic name for the autumn leaves.
@@minamihideki7123 if 'Su-metal's disguise to avoid public notice' ever went there, I doubt she'll do so during the time of a Babymetal show. But my guess is she loves Okonomiyaki so much she makes it herself at home.
BxMxC is one of those songs that Babymetal do a lot of, and that is experience them live, Live this just hammers out. You can watch all the Babymetal video's studio and live, but seeing them live is a whole new level that your not ready for, and it does not matter how many other bands you've seen, or if you've been in a band, you are just not ready for Babymetal live. I'm going to see them for the 21st time this year, and some of those were in Japan. I'd recommend trying out a few other Japanese bands, as there is a big gap between the way western bands are and Japanese bands, and the west does not come out of it well. Babymetal for me and a few others, while still up there, made us look to see what other bands there maybe in Japan, because Babymetal could be a one off of greatness, or they could be leading the charge of other great bands. And there are a lot of great bands in Japan. Just to name a few. BxMxC is rap-metal and uses a custom 9 strings guitar, that is why the tone hits hard. This is Su-Metal first time rapping and she is spitting bars and this is why Su-Metal is versatile and can sing any genre given. This is the upgrade version of "Iine" which have rave and hip-hop influence. BxMxC reference is either Bring x Moa x Chicken or Baby x Metal x Cypher.
ESP E-II MF-9 Babymetal guitar:-
The ESP E-II MF-9 Babymetal guitar is a collaboration between the band and the Japanese arm of ESP, and boasts a mighty 27.99″ scale with a whopping nine strings attached. Welp - here I was thinking that seven strings were too hard to conquer.
With a deluxe bound Black Stain finish and Babymetal’s logo stamped on the back of the headstock, the ESP E-II MF-9 Babymetal model also features an alder body and a three-piece, hard maple thin-U shaped neck, with 24 extra jumbo frets and a pau ferro board with Luminlay dots to spill your chops across. A Hipshot fixed bridge and Gotoh tuners keep everything in tune, while a lone EMG 909 humbucker and volume knob keep you covered in the tone department.

Or, if you want more songs that are totally unexpected, perhaps try "Onedari Daisakusen" or "Babymetal Death". Most people probably wouldn't even suspect that those songs were made by the same band. But they are totally amazing!
they use 9 string guitar, yeah 9 f*cking string guitar
SU's voice is as clear and precise as the sound of a telephone push, which sometimes sounded like some processed voice, especially in the early days.

I think I agree. Not autotune but compressed and maybe some reverb. You can't easily get sliding pitches with autotune.
😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘
Take a look of BxMxC live show, is awesome af
Great reaction mate
How low were those 9-string guitars tuned? Around about the 9th circle of hell kinda low, I guess.
