Considering that the Camaro can seat 4 occupants (ok, SQUEEZE in 4), corner at close to 1G and has nearly the same trunk space as the Corvette while costing THOUSANDS less, it's a pretty astounding car.
the z06 driver almost missed a shift on the run
he did. shifted late but still recovered nicely.
stantons27 I thought so too but I think that was traction control bogging the car thinking it was gonna spin on the 2-3 shift
Hey guys thanks for the good feedback. We ran the cars 6 times and it was close every time. Yes the Z06 was beginning to pull away from the ZL1 at the end. But the ZL1 stayed nearly even to 120 mph and at 130 the Z06 was only a half a car length ahead. The Z06 spun on the 2-3 shift on this run but not on a few of the other runs. Both are great cars in stock form. We have nothing to gain by sandbagging the Z06 to make the ZL1 look better. If anything we wished the Z06 was a lot faster as to make ZL1 guys want to upgrade their cars even more. As it turns out, it may be the other way around now as Z06 owners don't want to have a ZL1 run that close!

After seeing it all in black ... I may have to change what I was planning to buy. I owned a 2014 ZL1 red hot and was going to get the 2017 in white, but after seeing this in all black ... god damn I am sold!

all in all good race but what can you expect with the same engine. Also the camaro is 300 pounds lighter than the previous model. I didnt expect anything less than a close race. Im just waiting to see the Zl1 battle the Hellcat

The Hellcat is in a class by itself but I still think the ZL1 will give it a run for its money. I was pleasantly surprised at the results of this race.
been looking at swapping my scat pack for a gt350 but now i am thinking zl1. what a beast!
The extra weight probably helps the ZL1 to put the monstrous power down. I love the vette, but that thing seems so light. Can't wait for a mid-engine ZR1 Corvette!

Wow I am right with you, I was totally not expecting the ZL1 to be close to the Z06 more the less side by side with it. That is a very nice motor its got like you have said. Can't wait to see it run against the hellcat because I know that it will actually get a lead on the hellcat to like 120.
Both are amazing cars. I would be happy to have either one, or both, in my garage!

a 10 speed auto on ZL1 would probably makes up for its extra weight... until you get to long distance rools where the aero drag starts to work to C7's favour

Well I think the tr6060 has a more aggressive gearing and the ZO6 tr6070 is geared taller for more track use and better MPG

i just subscribed, John seems like an all around good guy...that ZL1 is gorgeous and would take it over the 'vette...now i would love to see both on a drag strip with the autos...no knock on the man. just want to see both cars heads up with the auto...great job on this John

If the stock Z06 is making around 640hp and the Zl1 stock is 650hp then the horsepower to weight ratio should make them run about the same speed correct?

now I can't say anything for the other races but this one you showed us the zo6 missed a gear then once found started pulling hard for a split second then the cones came.
drivers race, the car length or 2 was in the misshift/pedaling the Z06 did.
Good run HP on both these cars. I am very surprised as well that Chevy would actually put a same motor in the camaro. Over the past decades, GM would protect their prize child by de-tuning the Camaro/Trans AM by 10-15hp. I am eager to see what a 10pd auto would do against a Z06 from a roll and from a dead stop. Thank you John for a great video and hope on day to modify my soon-to-be-here ZL1 Auto with ur performance upgrades.

subbed, awesome video! it is so annoying seeing people compare auto cars to manuals, in this day and age we know autos are faster, if both cars offer the same transmission then the same should be used to have a fair race, good job!
In a year or so i am in the market for a Hellcat, but the more and more i watch vids on the ZL1 i think im changing my mind. My only problem is im a large man, 6’4” 320lbs. How would i fit in the Camaro?
Should do another version but with corners and stuff. The way I see these cars, the camaro is a muscle car and the corvette is a sports car

I have been waiting patiently for this type of match up Zo6 vs ZL1. Despite the Camaro being a little more on the weight side I wasn't surprised at all with the results. After all both cars have the same motor. With the ZL1 having 10 coolers I suspect it would of won the war had you run the cars back to back without letting them cool down. Not so sure the Z06 would be pulling away at top end as much anymore.
What I really want to see is the 10 speed automatic ZL1 vs both an 8 speed Z06 and 7 speed. I hope you guys will do that in March of 2017 which is when the 10 speed is supposed to be avail. I'm pretty sure I know what the end result will be....ha ha!!
I'd like to see how a stock GT350 /R would match up with the ZL1,and yes I realize the house difference

I was gonna say. He said he doesn't like the 7spd in the vette but why not, it's not like you use it while racing anyway.. Just a little added gas saving perk. I had 4.10 gears in my stang and I used to short shift while daily driving 1st-3rd-5th and even though the car probably got 10mpg or less (especially running so fat from being u tuned) I actually got pretty good gas mileage driving that way. I would even start in 2nd gear sometimes like when cops were behind me and I was trying to be quiet.
