    A point about gendered language: I have some knowledge of Irish, and in the Irish language, the word for "girl" (which is "cailín") is actually gendered masculine in the language. Just goes to show that gender in linguistic terms doesn't necessarily translate to gender in non-linguistic terms. When talking about Capital-G God, I always find that the pronoun "they" seems to fit best, for my purposes.
    Go raibh maith agat agus sláinte ag do teaghlach.

    • @fuk0se
      @fuk0se Před rokem +2

      As an Arabic speaker, using the pronoun 'they' can make drastic change to the meanings often in Quran, as the verbs and adjectives relating to the subject in a sentence must be changed to fit the pronoun.
      If 'they' was to be used, it gives a definite sense of plurality in Arabic, which contradicts what Islam stands for (that there is no God but Allah)
      I know that you mentioned that using the pronoun 'they' is what fits best for your purposes, but I just wanted to expand on how using 'they' won't work in Arabic. May God bless you abundantly! :]!!

      @@NinjaMommy some languages, like Deutsch, Hellenic, Russian, etc have three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. Wonder what’s wrong with calling G-d the neuter gender (Es, Оно).

    In case anyone is still confused:
    In Islam, Allah is neither male or female. In Arabic, the masculine pronoun is actually the gender neutral pronoun, hence translators translate it as “he” in English.
    However, it’s better and also permissible to refer to Allah using they/them pronouns because they are genderless. Because gender neutral pronouns exist in English, they/them would be better to use.

      Correction***
      We can’t use they/them pronouns because الله ﷻ never used هم to refer to Allah in the Quran
      Allah used هو so we use هو and since the best translation for هو is he, we stick with that
      We can’t makeup our own pronouns to use for Allah

      @@NinjaMommy exactly. Don’t make up things; because English is a limited language, ‘he’ is the most closest we can get to refer to Allah in terms of pronouns. But if that bothers you, you can replace that with saying Allah’s names rather than the he.

      Guys, don’t attack this person. This person might not even be a native English speaker. Some languages have only one singular pronoun, like Turkish, which is a gender neutral pronoun (literally just “o”), so if this was translated from another language then it would make sense. I do refer to people who’s gender I don’t know as “they” in English, but I believe that we should use he for God.
